I guess I'm more bitter than most. The only song that came to mind when I heard the news was F- You by Lilly Allen.
Well, that and Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit. -

If "Investors" happen to read the forums, I know I, for one, would gladly pay double what I am paying now to keep my account alive, and would also fund a "lifetime" subscription, similar to that other Super Hero game, to fund start up capital. I know there are many more like me.
I don't hold out a lot of hope, but I really appreciate you posting this GG. Sometimes a tiny glimmer of hope is all that is needed. We are heroes (and villains) after all and have fought off hoards of enemies with less. -
The swan song for 2 of my favorite characters, Atshen (my first 50) and Vindictive Wife (my second 50) are written here, along with my RL son's first 50, Axing Questions.

I'm think I will write final stories for one or two of my other characters, but likely not all of them. Some of them will simply slip away, too consumed in the fight to notice the impending destruction. -
That story reminds me a lot of why I created one of my first "alts", 7-10 Split. He was a bowler turned hero, also Energy Energy and I created him after being the only scrapper on a team of 5 blasters, 2 of which were energy. Yeah, I ran a lot.

There are so many, and as Sam said, they all have meaning, even down to my depressed emp defener, Random Sidekick. Some of my top...
Aipaloovik, my name sake, also my very first character. Aipaloovik is an Eskimo god, known for death and destruction. In game he is simply misunderstood. He has powers he doesn't know how to control, he's never meant harm to any humans. He came to Paragon because he heard there were others here with powers and that they had complete control over them. He hoped he too could learn to control his powers and use them to aid the human race and perhaps in some way make up for his past.
Atshen, my very first 50. His original lore was fairly simplistic, another Eskimo god (noticing a theme here? Why yes, I am Eskimo, why do you ask?) He wasn't special so much for his lore, but because he was my first 50... until...
Vindictive Wife, my second 50 and Atshen's wife. She came to Paragon to get her husband back and to exact vengeance upon the one she believed destroyed her home and her family. She came to Paragon to kill Statesman. This was before CoV came out, so it was never really supposed to be. I recreated her on a new account when Going Rogue came out because she could now swap sides at will and actually fight Statesman. Her ultimate let down came when Statesman actually died in game. Her purpose was gone, and she was still without her husband.
Alpha Stryke, born on a farm in Iowa. He never fit in much with the other farm kids because he constantly read comic books in his parents basement. He left for Paragon City where he though he could meet real Heroes. Eventually he was inspired to try and join their ranks, though he possessed no special powers or skills on his own. He picked up a shield at Wentworths and through perseverance and constant training was able to become an Incarnate.
Get off my Lawn, created on my 40th birthday. Back in his day Broadband was a bunch of women with instruments, online is where a fish was unless it was the one that got away, massively multiplayer was a game of tag with the whole block and roll playing was something you did on skates. An apple was an afternoon snack, a cell phone was found in a jail, clouds were in the sky and webs were made by spiders. I enjoyed him not so much for his backstory, though it was fun to write, but for just how much fun it was to play a grumpy old man.
I could go on and on. What made this game fun for me was the ability to create "real" characters, with back story and lore. The ability to make every character so very unique and special. I will miss them all. -
My first character was my namesake, Aipaloovik, an Ice/Storm Controller. Created right after launch back in 2004, he's still level 28 and I was very excited to have him back with the launch of freedom.
My first 50 Atshen, a DM/Regen scrapper. I believe I created him in May or June of 2004. I didn't save his original costume, because I was too excited when capes were finally unlocked. Next to him is a recreation of my 2nd 50, Vindictive Wife, a Dark/Dark Defender (in lore, Atshen's wife). On the left is the a more recent addition, my son's first 50, Axing Questions, Axe/Willpower brute.

As the news broke, my favorite characters were reunited for the first time since Atshen stepped foot in Paragon back in 2004.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=296250
When the end comes, they will be where a family should be, standing together, awaiting whatever comes next.
As the captions are a bit hard to read, they say
Atshen: "This world no longer needs me. Can you forgive?"
Vindictive Wife: "You are forgiven. I will always stand by you."
Axing Questions: "A family, finally reunited." -
Sometimes it is hard to see the light when faced with imminent darkness. Be assured however, even in the darkness, sparks of light emerge. It has been a long run in Paragon City, longer for some than others, but all were here of their own free will trying to make this city something great.
Atshen, while a god, had a human form. In this form, he was a devoted husband and father. Like so many others, when he heard the call for help, he was unable to ignore it. Rushing to the aid of The Statesman and so many others in Paragon city, resuming his god form, and fighting for what he believed was right, he would pay a terrible price. The price was the loss of his family.
Jennifer was Atshen’s wife. She never thought the day would come when someone would stand between them. She was wrong. The Statesman came between them. At first it seemed so innocent, watching her husband spend an hour here or there helping out in his spare time. Then it consumed him. There was never a moment her husband was not needed. Then he stopped coming home all together. She was devastated, angry, and vengeful. She came to paragon as The Vindictive Wife to seek vengeance on the one that destroyed her family. She would not rest until the one they called The Statesman was dead.
Axing Questions was the son of Atshen and Vindictive wife. He was left without a father at first, and then without a mother. He had so many questions, and there was one place and one place only he could find answers. That place was Paragon City.
This is a terrible story, or so it would seem, only to be further darkened by the final days of Paragon City. But as those final days lie before us, they all discovered each other. This world, no longer in need of their services, has allowed them to reunite. The light, and the end of this very dark tunnel, is a family reunited at last.
As the captions are a bit hard to read, they say
Atshen: "This world no longer needs me. Can you forgive?"
Vindictive Wife: "You are forgiven. I will always stand by you."
Axing Questions: "A family, finally reunited." -
Okay, I thought about bugging this or posting it in suggestions, but I figured I would ask if anyone knew if this was how things were supposed to work or not.
When running the Crulean arc in First Ward there comes a point where you must talk to Diabolique on top of a building. (Is that a spoiler?) When talking to her, she is standing (well, more floating I guess) directly in front of a portal that instantly ports you to Night Ward. I found this out the hard way by clicking next to her on accident. As a low to mid level 20, which is when you run that arc, this is quite a shock.
Now, at first you think, okay, no big deal, there is that shiny new portal system to get you back to a safe area....which is all well and good if you have ever set foot on Primal Earth and can use them. However, if you are a pure Loyalist or Resistance having no intention of meddling in the affairs of the primemates...err primals, these lovely portals are not available to you. This leaves you wandering around looking for weaknesses in the link between the worlds to port back to First Ward. For a level 23 character that can be quite dicey.
Anyway, I though I would ask if that little surprise was WAI before I suggested moving Diabolique so a missed click doesn't auto port you or bringing up a popup to ask if you are sure you want to be ported, or possibly marking the map so Praetorian characters at least have an idea of where to run to find the tunnels where they can port back. -
I have a conceptual hoverbrute that is SS/SD. Unfortunately, there are a number of really awesome powers I just can't use. Even more unfortunately, I found out only after leveling, like you. I gave up and decided the concept trumped the effectiveness of the character and decided on a solo only path for her so I don't gimp teams. Oddly, she's one of the most fun characters I play, simply because I enjoy the concept.
I will admint, it does sting a little to lose Hurl, Foot Stomp AND Shield Charge. I have other characters withe SD and SS, though not as a pair, and I know how effective those powers can be. It really comes down to why you like to play your character. Do you really enjoy it because of the powers, or the concept. I have characters that fall onto both sides. My hoverbrute falls onto the concept side and so she remains unchanged. Whatever you decide, make sure it makes you smile when you play, or there is no point. -
Some might say [who?][citation needed] that killing off you main superhero is jumping the shark.
Am I the only one that thought the inclusion of Mako in this arc was a stroke of pure genius?
Why yes, I did jump over him during the fight and say
" Eeeeehhh!!!!"
As for the rest of it, I agree with many here that saw the last scene and said "Wait he can't possibly be stupid enough to walk right... oh wow."
That said I thought the actual death scene was touching and a fitting.
The fight was hardly epic, the death however, I thought was. And again, the inclusion of Mako, whether for reasons of comedy or simply by coincidence was just pure, unadulterated awesome. -
Thank you very much. That is the exact type of information I was hoping someone had.

Perhaps this has been answered but I was unable to find it in a search. Has anyone ever done any data mining into how much data is used when playing CoH?
My basic question is, I will be away from my regular internet connection and have a 4G wifi connection for a week or so. I have limited data on that connection. For around 3 gigs, how much play time is viable? So much that I shouldn't care? 2 iTrials and I'm done? I have no idea what to expect.
Does anyone have any kind of personal experience with this?
Does anyone know how play style affects data transfer? I presume an iTrial full of people and events results in a higher data transfer per minute than say a solo mission with all your global channels shut down, but how much more?
If anyone has ever looked into this or has personal experience with it, I would be interested in hearing what you have found.
TIA -
My very first character was my namesake as in Ice/Strom on Pinnacle back in 2004. As he is currently level 24, I think it's safe to say no, he is no longer my main, though still one of my favorite characters. My second character was a DM/Regen back in the IH toggle days. Compared to my controller he hit 50 so fast my head spun, shortly after they upped the level cap. He still exists on Pinnacle under a different account and since Freedom hit, I have taken him out for a spin just for "old times sake".
Now my next "Main" was a Dark Dark Defender. I fell in love with that one and played her constantly until I left the game. Vindictive Wife has long since been my favorite character. What I liked about her was her back story. The wife of my Dark Melee scrapper she came to paragon to take him back and put her family back together. This gave her a deep hatred for the man she felt took her husband from her. That would of course be Statesman.
This was long before there was even a red side, let a lone a way to convert a hero to get there. I hadn't recreated her under my new account, kind of out of respect for the original. However, when they dropped the news about the January SSA, I recreated my beloved Vindictive Wife on my new home, Freedom. She has been my main ever since and is now 50 and well incarnated. She salivates every night over the thought of finally ending the man that ended her family.
TLDR; No, I don't play my first main any longer, but I recreated my 3rd ever toon (from pre-cov days), and am happy to have her be my current main character. Even more so by the ability to "Go Rogue". I guess I never realized how much I missed playing her. -
There seems to be a lot of hostility for people that overpay for stuff on the market. I don't really understand why. If I don't care why should you? I regularly pay 1,500,000 for all my salvage even if it is currently selling for 10. I'm not breaking the market. I just don't care. Why let the inf just sit? It doesn't do me any good. I figure at least some of the time some low level early player will get a nice surprise. I know I got one back when I started my new account. I thought it was the best night ever. Shrug, toons I dont use sitting on hundreds of million or in a couple cases a billion plus. Why would I not over pay?

Wow, okay, I might have thought of that if it hadn't specifically stated to use the /respec. Next time follow the instructions, even if they contradict previous instructions. Easy enough. Thanks Rush!
-
When I log in, the game says I have an unclaimed respec and to type /respec to activate it. However, when I type /respec I get a message that I do not have any available free respecs and I should talk to Jack Wolf to use any earned respec. I should have 1 respec from the Paragon Rewards program. Anyone have any ideas?

Why does my Instant Healing toggle keep dropping? Oh its a clickie.
What is this ED I keep hearing about? Is there in game Viagra to fix it?
Who exactly is this Wentworth fellow?
Hasten isn't permanent with SO anymore? How else am I supposed to keep 3 pets out? Oh I can't do that either?
The dumpsters in Bricks are empty. Where are all the tanks?
What the **** happened to the respec trial???? Its so boring now!
University
Invention sets
Incarnates
Rikti warzone
Alignment changes
Mission architect
None of that existed
Probably a lot I left out.
I was gone a long time. It's a whole new game now. Its been fun to relearn everything.
I left in i4 as I recall. Right before CoV came out. -
You have the same number of tokens as my free account. Based on that I will guess that you will already have 4 slots because that is what I have. I would say you would be better off buying bulk points instead of another sixty day card. The points as I recall are $15 for around 1300 or close to it. So you can buy your 5 slots and still have a few months of the inv system.
Also, most of your current tokens came from previous paid months. Buying another sixty day card will net you two tokens, not sixteen. One for each month. This is why I think you would do better to just buy the points.
Edit: Oh, and welcome back! -
I can't say I'm surprised to see the change come. I kind of figured they would have just changed the reward to once per slot, instead of once per character. I presume the issue was people running a toon to 18 or so, stealthing the SSA at 8 or 9 minutes a pop and being in an out in less than an hour, not the two mentioned above. If you read the brute forums they are over run with ways to hit 20 in 30 minutes or so. As long as you finish at 17 or above, you have a fair number of choices in recipes, including a rather valuable and sought after heal proc.
Locking out rewards so they can not be achieved until after the level lock of the SSA seems like a sub-optimal solution, but I assume it was the easiest and quickest to implement.
Also as stated above, there are ways to get around this, that in the end are going to be more efficient anyway. I play the market a bit, and have not really noticed any great reduction in recipe prices, so I don't know how wide spread this issue really was. If the devs felt the need to alter this, I'm guessing more wide spread than I had assumed. -

I know many of you make this every week, or even every couple of days, but I just joined the Billionaires' club, and wanted to share.
