Is your original "main" your "main"?

I am curious--how many people have switched their "main" toons over the years? I deleted my first ever toon (why, oh why did I do that?), but my new and improved Katana/Invul scrapper (same powersets as original, just wanted to start over) became my main. I played the heck out of him until I got him to 50 (That was when getting to 50 was harder). I do have a lot of alt-itis, but I still play him and still like him. I was never big on the "main" like some people, but I definitely still play him a lot. I knew I wanted a scrapper and scrappers still hold a place in my heart.

Did anyone completely switch their main? Go from a tank to a defender or whatever?

I have never had a main. Seriously.

I may focus on a character or two at a time, but I play all my characters regularly. I'll admit, though, that I play some more than others. Everyone has their favorites.

I understand the concept of "main" from other games, but it's never applied to me here.

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

I was there with you until I realized I wanted a 50 (and a Kheldian--why is everything so easy? OK different thread). Now I play A LOT of toons, but I do come back to my "main" often.

Yes. My original character is my one and only level 50. It's the one character I consistently break out for every event that I participate in.

I do have some others who have seen a bit more playtime in the last year or two, just by virtue of being leveled up with a supergroup, but my first char is still my "main" char, as far as everything else is concerned.

Before leaving the game for a few years some time ago, I had one main for team play and one main for solo play, but I never really truly loved either one of them. So I never had a "main" in the same sense that most hardcore players had.

That changed once Street Justice was released. I now have a StJ/WP Brute that is my main and I don't care to play any of my other characters anymore. I took this character from level 1 on the day StJ was released all the way to multiple (well, two) tier 4 Incarnate powers per slot before the end of the year. And I still don't tire of playing this character. It is my main in every sense of the word, and I really couldn't be happier about it!

I'm not sure how to answer this question.

Is my current main the first character I created? No. However the first guy I created was deleted before I ever really got into playing him, so does he count?

Also, does it count if my main is still the same character, but given unto new powers? M I Abrahms was originally Inv/SS. Now he is WP/SS. Is he the same character, or not?

I am more curious about what people call their main and if it has stayed their main. So any way you want to answer is good!

Ah, so the important question is, "Is Abrahms still Abrahms, even though he's new Abrahms."

I can see the answer going either way, especially as the original Abrahms has been retooled into a new character that's kind of a secondary.

Is it the same concept? Yes. Is it the same character? Kinda...no. So make of that what you will.

Yep my first main is still my main today. Never touched his original outfit so that remains the same since Coh went on air. Made a video way back then and he still looks the same

He went from Inv/SS in I3 to WP/SS whenever Will Power came out.

Sadly I've parked her. My namesake; my first ever character (headstart vintage which is why I can't delete her to remake her...psychological thing) and for a little while longer, also my highest level character at all of 41. I dislike Electric Blast I think. A lot. I struggled for years trying to make it work out and it was just painful most of the time. I haven't played her regularly for a lot of years. Now she stores my rare salvage, although I am seriously considering making the break for 50 with her just to not feel like I failed with her.

I remade her (different server) as an Ice/Storm Corruptor which I LOVE. Ice blast is far more satisfying to me than Elec. Then I got distracted by Fire/Cold for a bit and I may even like that more.

Then, however, I found Dominators (even though I suck at using Domination properly and effectively). Specifically I discovered Earth/Earth Domination. OMG I am in love. It's all poundy and shakey and smashy...I love it so much. I now play Rocker Girl in preference to all my other characters, though I still have a lot of them I still love. She's 39 and busily smashing her way to the top.

When I originally started playing I was on a toss up between three characters. Two were on Guardian (FF def and empathy def) and another was on Pinnacle (Earth/Rad controller). That eventually got paired down to the FFer and the Controller but I still really didn't have the idea that I wanted a "main". As I started making friends and joining SGs I eventually decided that I needed to make a decision on a home server and therefore my namesake became my main on Guardian and has been since Dec. 04. (I eventually rerolled the controller over to Guardian)

When villains came out pretty much my villain from beta was rerolled live and has been my villain main ever since: Codename-Pox. Being a massive altoholic though, now "main" now just pretty much means which characters I take through new content for badges and other shineys i.e. Incarnate powers first. It does not mean the characters I mainly play. There is always several projects going that get the majority of my attention and then favorites I'll grab for whatever else comes up.

What AT/powerset is that? I had a hard time deciphering. It looked like elec melee, but I know that wasn't around. Help?

I have no "main." I do have a character by the name of Samuel Tow, but this isn't a character I created to be me. On the contrary, I borrowed Sam's name when Global names came out as all the other names I used at the time were tied up in my PlayNC Master Account and my City of Heroes Game Account, neither of which I wanted to use for security reasons. Samuel Tow has, therefore, never been my "main." He's merely my first and oldest character that has the most prestige of any.

I have not played Sam in probably four or five years, not seriously anyway. There isn't anything left for him to do bar repeated paper missions ad nauseum and "more stuff to earn" doesn't constitute more to actually DO. We'll see if Dark Astoria changes this.

When it comes to play preference, there are no characters I favour. I play whoever it is I'm focusing on the moment, and who that is is a question of spur-of-the-moment whim. If there are any characters I actively avoid playing, then they are either deleted, rerolled or reimagined.

He is an Electric/Electric Blaster. Back then we didn't have the EPP's and once they added them in the game I chose electric mastery. So he is elec/elec/elec as a blaster.

I dislike EB as well. I forced myself to get my electric blaster to 50 (just had to..). I found it never took away enough enemy end and I felt I was giving up damage for it, so I felt gimped. Now there are more powersets that drain end so on a team I would feel more useful AND I wonder if I invested in things like IOs for this toon and took advantage of new things in the game if I would like my blaster. I just haven't been motivated to try.

Yes. Aggelakis is my main character in any game I play. Sometimes she mutates (by reroll or creating multiple versions) but she's always my main.

My original "main" ceased to be my main character right around the time of ED. He couldn't stand up to enemies as well as he used to and it put me off playing him regularly. If not for sentimentality, I might've deleted him early on.

That could very well be what it is I don't like. Well, that and the buzzy sound effects when I think I really wanted thunder. =) I think I may want the sound and the fury, not just the VFX. That could be why my Earth Dominator makes me giggle.

Ditto.

There is no "UberGuy" character. That became my forum handle (and later, my global handle) because that was the name I used in FPS games before I came to CoH.

I have characters I like to play because of:
  • How many foes they can mow down
  • How fast they can burn down one tough foe
  • How severely they can cripple their enemies
  • How well they can survive in the middle of very dangerous foes
  • How well they do whatever it is they do
  • How effectively they break performance stereotypes about their AT or powerset
  • How proud I am of their backstory
That's not a complete list. While some entries on the list overlap, many do not - I have no character who I like playing because they can do all of those things. I just have lots of different characters I like.

Edit: I should mention that I have never retired a level 50 character. I have a lot of characters who have never made it to 50, but I have vague intentions to do so "someday". Anyone who I have absolutely no intention to get to 50 gets deleted. Anyone who gets to 50 gets played, at least some of the time. You might see how this leads to me having less time to level new 50s as I go along.

My original character, a Katana/SR Scrapper created in the headstart, is still level 30. These days, he'd actually make a quite reasonable character, and so I wouldn't mind leveling him to 50. Prior to I7, SR was pretty lame overall (pre-Elude especially), and only sentimental attachment to my very first character kept him around.

My first main, Organica, was (eventually) a katana/regen scrapper, but wasn't my first 50.

My second main was Mouse Police on Virtue, also a katana/regen scrapper, and ultimately my 2nd 50. Later I got Organica to 50 too.

But I kind of soured on regen, so I don't play either of them much these days. Currently my "mains" are probably my superstrength/invul brute Shinobu Eden and my elec/shield scrapper Sparks Fly. I like my widow Miss Shinobu a lot too.

For me, no. Back when I first started I was unsure what AT I wanted to level and what server I wanted to play on. After I settled on Triumph I deleted everything else I had and made a Ice/Therm corr. He was my main for awhile but I got bored by the combo so I canned him and keep rerolling him but have yet to keep a reincarnation of him. I then rolled up a stone/stone brute and he was my main(and my forum name) for a long time but I ended up moving to Virtue and retiring him. I have yet to have a new main and just jump between a couple of toons and make a new one when I get bored and retire one.
