I have to say, i've been really suprised at the tone of the forums ever since the news. Had no clue so many people were so unhappy with the game and the devs.
-
First thing for me would be no gear. I hate having to worry about any type of gear more than what we had here.
Second, I would want heroes and villains all together in the zones. No more red or blue specific zones, as it pretty much doubles the effort to add new zones/content.
I could go on and on, but the last thing i'll add is fresher combat. Doesn't have to be anything ground breaking, but should flow a little better, if that makes any sense. -
I gues facebook and titan it is. Something tells me most of the major news media won't give to much coverage to NCSoft, or any other gaming company really.
-
Where is everyone going for any news on...anything City of? Future projects from the devs, rumors of NCSoft selling the IP, etc?
-
Am I the only one who thinks that if the IP is sold, work will begin on a CoX2? This game has lasted 8+years, and was still going rather strong. Trying to buy and then revive an already old game wouldn't make much sense from a bussiness point of view, I would think. But realizing that there is a fairly large market for a game such as City of Heroes, with an already loyal community, would seem to be a perfect opportunity for a new MMO.

Musculature for scrappers is like a curse for me. If i don't get it on any of mine i feel like i'm doing it wrong.
Edit: But brutes just don't seem to benefit as much from musculature, although i've never tried it on any of my brutes. -
Oh wow, didn't realize elec or staff could put out that much ST dps.
-
Quote:Staff is very solidly in the middle of the pack for ST damage, something akin to Katana in those terms...
But for AoE, staff is solidly above average...it also has the forms which allow you to do things other sets do not.
Staff is a good set, but not the be all end all of melee sets.
While staff probabaly isn't the lowest in terms of ST damage, is it really roughly the same as katana? Doesnt sound right to me, i'd say staff's ST is comparable to elec's. This is purely based on my experience with the sets though, no numbers. -
If i had to gues i'd say psyche mind jumped into your own character, and will later be brought back maybe in another SSA. I think the only two people around when she got axed was manticore and your character, unless she could mind jump across the whole city. I do hope they bring her back, would be a nice spin for an SSA.
But to the topic, it would be nice if the game info read in the past tense, but i imagine it's not on the top of the dev's list of things to do. -
Yes. Just, yes. Greatest idea ever, I would never log off my fire/fire scrapper.
-
Im curious, is the aggro cap the same for brutes and tanks? If so, that seems like an obvious place to start for balance between the two. The tanks job is to keep aggro, the brutes job is...i gues to do damage and survive? Anyways, seems like a no brainer to me.
Reducing brute caps and what not would be alright with me but i don't think it would be a good idea. No point in pulling brutes down to make tanks happy. It should have been done in GR beta but thats in the past. -
Kind of skimmed through the thread but i'm one of those people who think blasters should get some kind of mez prot, not in the form of IOs or icontent. Honestly, i don't see the harm it would do to give blasters mez prot in weak form. They would still be squishy with no natural defense and no natural resistance. A blaster, with a small amount of mez prot (not sure of the mag, but not as much as scrappers/stalkers) who wanted to AoE or aggro huge mobs with no back up will still be defeated. Might not be mezzed, but will still go down nearly as fast.
Balanced around pure SOs, I really don't understand how it could make such a huge difference, though someone might have addressed this earlier. Adding a little bit of mez prot wont change the fact that blasters are squishy, imo. -
One name i was surprised i was able to scoop up on Exalted was 'Incendio'. Great name for fire based toons, imo.
Unfortunately was not able to scoop us 'Incendia', which would've been even better. -
I actually just recently dusted off my old fm/fa scrapper who got parked at 38 awhile back. So much fun! But yes, the mobs do scatter. BU + FE + all the red insps i got and any boss goes down in 3 seconds, not even considering criticals. So nice. But yeah, i felt like i couldn't even use FSC unless it would finish the mob off or i'd have to chase them down. Seemed like they would even run if i used consume..
But either, so much fun. Planned on going musculature just for giggles, but i did get tired of the no taunt aura and rolled another as a brute. Hopefully it will be as fun as my scrapper but i much prefer crits to fury so i understand completely with wanting a scrapper.
But anyways, Fly for /fire could work. But i would recomend finding some way to get CJ in there for some immob protection. Also, i've been thinking about throwing air superiority into my build for some mitigation vs harder targets while solo, /fa is squishy and can use any amount of mitigation it can get when HFs is down.
What to build for, i'd go with either s/l def, +rech, or maybe +hp. The only other experience i have with /fa is with my claws/fa brute who has soft caped s/l def. It's nice, but i'm sure there are better ways to build fm/fa toons. Really, i think i'll do as much +rech as possible for my brute, the kill them before they kill you idea actually seems to work well for /fa.
Anyway, just my 2cents. It is a really fun concept for a scrapper but i think it is just generally better for brutes, which sucks something fierce. -
Staff is ok, definetly not OP but not worthless, imo. One issue i find with the set is the lack of a tohitt buff of some sort. Really wish i had participated in the beta more to suggest that a tohitt buff was added to the form of body. I think you can get some tohitt buff by using the t9 with 3 stacks of form of body, but simply adding a small tohitt buff to form of body per each stack i think would be nice. Not looking forward to fighting drones, CoT demon LTs, etc etc if i'm caught with no yellow insps.
-
Haven't read all the posts (most though) but wanted to throw my 2cents in.
First off, i've already rolled two staff brutes, /elec and /invuln, and took the invlun to 25 and the elec to 38. In the early levels the set is a ton of fun, probabaly the greatest time i've ever had on a low level toon due to form of soul to let me completely ignore my blue bar. And it looks amazing, imo.
That said, i have to agree that it starts off strong but really does start to feel a great deal weaker, imo, with age. While the added range on all the AoEs and attacks is nice, it doesnt really feel like the set is doing the amount of AoE damage that i would expect. Simply, on all SOs, my claws brute with just one AoE, spin, it felt like i was doing just as much if not better AoE damage. To me, it just doesnt feel right, not to even mention how the ST feels. Sky splitter at 32 helped a great deal but that attack feels pretty meh, long-ish animation for not so amazing damage.
All of this is fine with me though. Just because it's new doesnt mean it needs to be in the top 5 melee sets for everything, imo. I do feel that, in some way, the set should be changed. Not comfortable really calling for a buff, just needs something. I never really realized how much i would miss having no BU or the tohitt that comes with it. Maybe add a tohitt bonus to form of body to make up for this? It just really feels like trading the BU for the forms, while nice in the early levels, seems to hurt alot more than i expected.
Really, just the fact that it seems like claws, while only really counting one AoE, is out AoEing staff just doesnt seem right. Now that i think about it, i think it would have been nice to replace IS, the one stalkers don't get, with another PbAoE. The more i think about it, the more it makes sense. Stalkers get more balanced ST damage, while scrapper, brutes, and tanks receive another good AoE, not some iffy cone.
Bottom line, imo, staff is nice. It's shiney. It's fun to go through the low levels with, and it looks cool. Hopefully i'll find a secondary i feel pairs nice with it and take one to 50. I don't see myself running much incarnate content, investing IOs, or really that much time into it after 50, though. The set just doesnt feel competetive on any level, AoE, ST, or versatility, imo.
Also, i feel that saying staff won't truly shine until i23 and the hybrid slot shouldn't be recognized as a valid arguement for balance. Not everyone has access to incarnate content material, even though you have to pay for staff fighting. If staff will only be worth anything at level 50 with the hybrid slot, i think that's arguement enough something needs to be changed, imo.
Also, side question i've been meaning to ask on the forums (sorry, not trying to derail), how are people slotting guarded spin? It's not exactly a parry/da clone, as i would slot for acc, rech, and def on my kat/bs toons. What's everyone one else doing?
This whole post is based purely on my perception, -absolutely- no number crunching, and my opinion. -
Im gona recomend claws. Just recently rolled one and got her to 50, greatest toon i have ever rolled. Been playing for 7ish years and this is the only toon that has been able to keep my attention enough to drop a little bit of inf into and do all the incarnate content with, funnest toon ever. Great AoE and ST damage even with very little IO investment. Really is a great combination, and becomes great early on.

I've always thought soloing redside to be faster and easier than blue. It's easier to get contacts, who almost always give arcs, and 90% of the arc mishes will be in the same zone. Imo, much more solo friendly than all of the old blueside contacts. Teaming, though, is a pain redside but not impossible. Lack of steady DFB teams does make the first 15 or 20 levels slower but 20+ i've always found to be much smoother redside, but i'm big on soloing.
-
Leaked all this good stuff so we would stop complaining about staffs lol.
-
I do wish they would revamp some of the old zones, like the way they did faultline. Perez would be nice, but it would be nice if there was more content 30-40 for blueside. Thats when i always hit a wall in leveling my toons, seems like all the old blueside contacts don't hand out story arcs nearly as often as they should. I mean redside every contact gives an arc almost 99% of the time on the first mish they hand out.
Zones i think would be nice to revamp would be like boom town, perez, kings row (one of my favorite looking zones, just nearly no content there), founders, and bricks. Really wished these zones had more consistent contacts/story arcs like all the redside zones have. But i gues it really depends on the budget the devs are working with, would be nice though. -
I think anything will be good with /regen but if redraw bugs you then obviously none of the weapon sets, regen = very clicky. If you want ST, i'd say StJ. Especially if you're PL to 32, its a good set but crushing uppercut couldn't come quicker.
DM also works pretty good with regen, never tried them together myself but i've heard it works well.
Really i don't think you can go wrong if you're not trying to min/max or anything in specific. My first 50 was BS/regen, was fairly smooth from 1-50 but that was some time ago, really the only thing that will hurt /regen would be -rech. Maybe -regen as well and if any fights last to long and none of your clickies are back up. -
Have to be honest, i didn't even think about /sr lol. It's been awhile since i've had an sr scrapper, like pre-IOs. I have heard that it is fairly easy to soft cap. Is the end manegable(spelling, lol)? I'd be willing to use alpha slot to help with end issues but musculature just seems to good to pass up on a scrapper.
Think i've narrowed it down to /shield, /sr, and /wp, leaning towards /sr the more i think about it.
Thanks for all the replies and all the help, hopefully i can roll this toon and stick it out to 50, lol -
Thanks for all the replies. I have to say, fire/shield with the musculature alpha is sounding really nice. The only thing i think that would bother me would be my end. And how would it play on the ride to 50? Im really looking for a new toon that i can invest quite a bit of money in, and stay interested in long enough to go through all the new DA content but if it's a pain all the way until incarnate stuff and until the soft cap, im not sure thats the combo for me.
/wp feels like a nice fall back, love it on my stj/wp scrapper. But i can't help but feel that no mitigation from fire would make /wp feel pretty squishy, same for /inv. -
Always wanted a fire/ scrapper, it's just whenever i go to make one i get stuck on deciding a secondary. I tried fire/fire awhile back, the whole no taunt aura thing just killed it. Other than that i was thinking maybe /shield, /wp, /inv.
Anyone have any advice/experience with any fire/? scrappers? Seems like the set doesnt really mesh well with any certain secondary other than /fire and maybe/shield.
Any help is appreciated
