    A. For some, maybe. Not for others.

    B. Yes, KD turns into KB against -1, on most powers. This can be a serious annoyance for melee characters.
  2. Yup, after seeing many of these posts in the past, I tried something over the weekend. I rolled a new Brute last week, and took him through the AE from level 5-8, doing some good story arcs in there, solo.

When I got to level 8, I rolled for common level 26-40 arcane salvage, and listed everything I got on the market for 5 influence. I didn't even completely deplete my ticket stash (still have a few hundred left), and I was sitting on top of over 5 million influence. And that was at +0/+1 mission settings. Once I get to a higher level and want to go back into the AE, I'm sure that I'll be able to do better.

This wasn't playing the market, it was just using those high prices to make myself a quick buck. And I ended up with more than I expected. If others are selling for something you consider to high, then sell, and make a quick profit. When you need the same salvage later, be patient, and make a profit. This isn't hard.

Now, correct me if I am wrong. The debuff is -20%, jes? It lasts for 10s, jes? Not stackable, jes? Did I miss anything?

Lastly, does anyone have any DPS or other calculations that show the benefit of this resistance debuff? If it matters I am currently playing a /DM tanker.

    Thanks!
    Jes it's -20% Res.

Jes it lasts for 10 seconds.

If you already had your tier 1 attack as part of your attack chain, then this should be a straight 20% increase in your DPS (well, a little less since your fist attack won't do the 20% extra damage, but close enough). If it wasn't, then it's going to depend.
  4. Is it okay if I say that I like to change it up? Sometimes I want to play a character that is out to save the day. Sometimes, I like to play a character that is out for himself, or out to conquer the world. Sometimes, I like to play a character that might not be nice or heroic, but isn't a villain, either.
  5. Welcome to the Forums!

    1) Whips took the animation guys an inordinate amount of time to make. Unless it just reused the animations we have, I wouldn't expect to get this.

    2) Not sure how well the system could handle characters that small, but I wouldn't mind the ability to make our characters shorter (though I'd say if it could be done, it shouldn't be a temp power).

    3) Egads, yes.

    4) I wouldn't mind this, but have no idea how tough it would be to do.

    5) & 6) Often asked for, but there are a LOT of technical difficulties with both of these. Highly unlikely to happen.

  7. You could also make him AR, and give him one of those fancy guns that Mr. Zorg created.

But yeah, as a secondary, I think it would be tough to justify anything but Devices or Traps, since there's no "piloting" secondary. He did leave a time bomb for his enemies, though, which would take some skill in this game.

Edit -> Thinking about it, though, he does seem more like a Blaster. I mean, he doesn't ever really take a shot, and his defense usually consisted of shooting the other guy first.
  8. The Luddites, simply for the comments that you can find them making.

"I'm glad you asked. No, nonviolent protest doesn't mean 'knives only.'"
  9. Also, SD/, Invuln/, and Willpower/ can all make use of Frozen Aura as a sleep, gaining buffs from the minions that are slept while taking zero damage from them.
  10. Also, Gauntlet isn't a power. It's just an additional aspect of each power that gives a Taunt-like effect. There's is no Gauntlet, really. Each Tanker power is just coded to provide the effect. So nothing but the powers themselves can trigger "Gauntlet," since it doesn't exist outside of the powers.

    Stone/Ice

Since you're already going to be highly survivable in Granite form, you may want to focus on movement speed IO bonuses. As such, sets like Gift of the Ancients for your Defense powers, and Focused Smites in your single target attacks might be a good idea. The Gift of the Ancient's IO for runspeed can actually be slotted by itself, if you want other set bonuses.

Using these can actually make up for a lot of the movement penalty that you will suffer. Slotting Swift up for runspeed will also help, though it doesn't take IO sets, it can still take level 50 runspeed common IOs.

Edit -> Also, swap Frozen Touch and Greater Ice Sword. FT is a better attack pretty much all around. GIS is actually a pretty bad power.

Taking an existing powerset's graphics and changing them to suit your character. So saying we can't do that same thing with ice is a little ridiculous.

    Thus, dammit BaBs.
Yes, like the others said above, please tell this to my BS/DA Dervish Scrapper who uses Dark Armor to represent sand, or any number of characters that use sets with customization to represent something that they're not "supposed" to be. My Dark/Psi Defender who colored his powers as white as possible to make them resemble the ghosts that he controls. My /Ice Dominator that already colors her powers to be crystals instead of ice to the best of her abilities. There are a number of ways to do what you're describing already. Why shouldn't Ice powers be able to do the same?
  13. I can only imagine the steam-powered Devoured Earth that would be created here. Swarms of flying nano-bots? Machines that could disguise themselves as trees? Steampunk rocks? Machine gun-wielding fungi?

    Sounds like fun to me!
  14. Do you team a lot, or mostly solo?

If you're going solo, I'd say that a Scrapper might be for you. Something fun might be an Electirc Melee/Willpower Scrapper. Good survivability, while the activity is focused solely on your primary (all of the secondary powers are toggles or auto powers).

If teaming, I'd say that maybe a Controller might be a good fit. Matching it with a less "active" secondary like Force Field or Sonic, where the buffs go on, and then you can focus a lot on your primary powers, might be a good match.

Sounds like all Tankers will, then. Since you had decent resistance numbers to back that up.

IM does have a couple of neat tricks and has been just entertaining enough for me to not reroll to something else, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was on the bottom of the pile for Tanker damage output still.
Yes, the old version was worse. Much worse. /Ice Melee has never been the most damaging secondary for Tankers. It gave that up and focused on control. However, it used to have bad single-target and AoE damage. Now, it's single target damage is still low (but really, it's not as bad as you're making it out to be), but it's AoE damage potential is pretty decent. Frozen Aura does the same damage as Foot Stomp (without rage up), and is pure cold damage, which isn't resisted that much.

Yes you can. Frozen Touch is still your best attack. Having the one boss attack you while the minions flop around is fine. Frozen Touch's hold effect is just over 2 seconds short of it's base recharge. You can easily stack the hold for short periods, and sometimes perma depending on how much +recharge you have. If you take one of the Ancillary Pool holds? Then you're absolutely fine.

Meanwhile, you can be using Frost to take out a large portion of the spawn. As a Fire/Ice Tanker, you're going to be focusing on killing lots of minions and lieuts anyways.
  18. I also think that building around the idea that you will get buffs and debuffs will sometimes get you in trouble. Basically, if you're thinking that the team will get you up to that 60% Defense, and you get on a team with no Def Buffs or -ToHit debuffs, then what do you do? I mean, what if your support teammates are a Kin, Sonic, or Thermal? Then you're still 15% shy of the new softcap.

So I don't think that trying to get part of the way there is a bad idea. Do you need to get to 60%? No. But 52% or so isn't bad.

/seconding the dropping of GIS. It's DPA is pretty bad. Ice Sword is better all around. /Ice Melee isn't going to be about putting up large numbers every once in a while, it's about putting up smaller numbers all the time. Between Frozen Fists (for bruising), Ice Sword, and Frozen Touch, you've got your single-target attacks fairly set. Then frost and Frozen Aura for your AoE. GIS is skippable.
  20. Yes and no.

Basically, it just raises the soft-cap for this content. However, Defense-based sets will have a much easier time getting to the new soft-cap (and some sets won't be able to get there at all).

However, Defense-based sets still have very little else to build for, so they're still the same level of screwed there that they have been.
  21. Ice Melee not sucking any more was because of player suggestions about fixes to the powerset.
