"Patience, young--"
Oops, wrong world!
I understand everyone's desire to know more. You may have noticed that we're already starting to talk a little more about CoV. It's a tricky balance between showing too much too early and being too mysterious. Rest assured the pace and depth of information will be gradually building in the next few months -- although we're not going to reveal all our secrets. We want to save a few surprises for the release after all!
[/ QUOTE ]
Cryptic already made this mistake. Way before beta, heck even before NCsoft was involved they told us that the game was going to be an open ended character development system without levels and all that muckery. Well... that didn't pan out as it was impossible to prevent everyone from making heroes with powerful ranged attacks + strong defenses. They even had plans on how Origins would have major impact on how heroes were created and progressed... that was scrapped too. You should have heard the crys of outrage when they removed the Magic Artifact and Cybernetics origins. I thought the boards (the really, really old boards - back when Mac Allen was still a moderator) were going to self combust; and the game was only vaporware at that point.
Anyhoo... they're being smart this time around and not devulging too much too soon as it may have to change and your plans are dashed. No point in getting hopes up or making people mad before they know what's going on for sure. -

How about setting up PVP so that it's not a straight numbers game wher ehigher level characters do more damage to lower level players, but instead all PVP powers are percentage based.
So that someone thta is L20 with his main punch 6 slotted with DO's would do the same damage as a L50 character who had the same puch 6 slotted with DO's (granted a higher level player would have SO's and therefore do more damage but the lowbie could at least compete).
[/ QUOTE ]
I could live with this, because my L41 has SOs, more slots, more powers, better powers, and more HP. I'd still pwn the L20 - but it wouldn't be just pie. -
[ QUOTE ]
Sounds like this player has invested in 4 powers - 3 of which he choose, and most of which he has probably slotted more than 6, and he still cannot fly. How much more of an investment did he make compared to your 1 power? How much did he have to give up compared to you and he still cannot go vertical.
No matter how you slice it, flying is ultimately safer than super speed, and offer an undeniable vertical advantage over super speed (or in this case, 4 other speed powers). If flyspeed had the same max as runspeed, why would anyone ever take superspeed?
[/ QUOTE ]
IMO, this is such a moot point that it's just silly. Why are the travel powers "balanced" against each other. Who cares if Fly is the Uberest travel power. For many people it's the reason they bought City of Heroes. I know it's the reason I bought it (ok, one of the reasons) and I was sorely disappointed to find that it's disappointingly slow.
Fly should probably equal, or be a lot close to SJ in terms of speed. It already has a -ACC component and slides when you manuver. Perhaps that slide effect could be increased to offset for faster speed.
Anyways, Fly is by far the crappiest travel power in the game and one of the game's biggest disappointments. -
The index should updated to reflect that the Spines' ticks are Toxic damage.

I'd like to throw my hand in for thanking the Devs.

We have NOT announced ANY date for CoV.
Until you see it on our website, take any date with a grain of salt. Actually, a huge handful.
[/ QUOTE ]
What he said. There's nowhere for it to be pushed back -from-. Since COV is in many ways a Whole New Game, it takes a long while. If we were brighter, we'd have done another smaller content expansion to keep folks happy (and have a new box on the retail shelves) coming out maybe 6-9 months after last April's launch, but we're not that bright and we keep giving our content away for free.
We're discussing the possibility of doing some pay-fer content (i.e. an expansion pack) in addition to our usual big-[censored] free updates and COV, but we're hella busy as it is, so we'll see. The retailers would love us if we did, and we like happy retailers (and money) - but we don't want to cut back on the Free Stuff in any case.

Thanks for the update JG. Pay-for-Content huh? Oh well, you guys have a business to run. I'm only here for fun and games after all. -

For me localized European support means waiting many many months to get your updates due to translations being done for the other localized versions(mostly German and French).
[/ QUOTE ]
I've addressed this before (check this thread), but I appreciate that you might have missed it, so just to restate: This is not going to happen. At launch, the European version of City of Heroes will be up to date with the US one. Moving forward, there will be little or no delay between updates (and when I say 'little', I mean a matter of days at most - and we're working hard to ensure that even that doesn't happen).

I dont like paying for inferior quality.

Neither do we, and we wouldn't expect any of our players to do so.

Sometimes, I love this comany... in that platonic way of course. -

How about this then:
The target is considered "even level" relative to your attacks.
So, a level 10 attacking a level 40 would have the same chance to hit as if he was hitting a level 10, and do the damage he would normally do against a level 10 (which the 40th would laugh at, but get enough 10ths attacking him and it should eventually worry him)
Conversely the 40th attacking a 10th will still wipe the floor with him, damage wise, but if that 10th level had defence buffs (SR scrapper with bubbles - for example) then the chance to hit him would get "floored" rather than getting jacked because of level.
If I was a 10th against a 40th, 1 on 1, I expect to get pasted, but if enough of us gang up on him, I want at least a *chance* that we can pull him down, granted some of us are going to be worm food, but I expect that.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is actually a much better description of how the "monster code" works.
Oh -- and everyone let's be calm. There's still a lot of time and a lot of testing before anything is finalized.

Sweet... I love this one. -

??!!!! That's what you post?!!! You have paniced 10% of the community with your NERF hammer on poor Regen Scrappers and you post this first?

Actually, I'm responding to my PM's. Remember - I was at Gen Con for the past few days. First I collect my PM's, then I go to the boards.
PLUS - I'm spending more and more time on City of Villains.

Heh... oh boy do I feel sheepish.
OK then, who do we speak to about the recent changes on the Test Server? Geko? Because, we definatly need a sit down discussion about it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yep. I'll grant one of those original wishes.
Maybe two.

Good Morning! I hope you have a good weekend.
I do think there are a couple of fires that people are expecting you to personally show up with a fire extinguisher today!
Good luck with that!

fire extinguisher? He's better show up with Lake Ontario. -

Global Chat is awesome if you use it for what it's really for. I can find my friends no matter what Alt they're playing - and they can find me. -

Mr Bridger, are you able to give us an indication as to the cost of UK subscription?
[/ QUOTE ]
The exact details are still being worked out - I'll let you know as soon as everything has been finalised.
I can say, though, that it won't be £15 a month

Lol, with the Dollar dropping like a rock you guys should pin your price now and reap the benefits later. -

I'm saying there are good reasons to have European servers, and there are good reasons why those servers will be seperate to the US ones. That's all. I am not trying to persuade any of you to switch, and I have no expectations either way.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are good reasons to have European servers, but I see no good reasons why they are segregated from the US servers. As a UK player I can choose to play on a German server, a French server, so why not a US server? Likewise, why can a US player not decide that he would be better suited to a European server due to working odd hours or being a native German speaker?
There are no benefits for the gamer in preventing US/European players corssing over into each other's servers. Having dedicated support hours etc. on European servers does not exlcude Europeans playing on US servers and vice versa.
I was looking forward to European release, the difficult decision as to how much time to dedicate to playing on my current, US based server, and how much to put into joining the new European community.
That decision has been taken away from me. I must play with my US friends, OR my UK friends under the system described. Welcome to the world of the Internet, not the Unitedstatesnet & the Euronet.
The localisation argument does not hold, if there will be no delays then the US client could include localisation and be used as a worldwide client, no need for a seperate English (United States) client for the States and English (Proper ), German, & French client for Europe.
I hope this is looked at again, seems a bad start to a European launch in my view. If SoE can get a European launch right, with all the things they managed to screw up in SWG then surely NCSoft/Cryptic can get it right too?
Looks like I'm stuck with all you crazy Americans for the foreseeable future
[/ QUOTE ]
Most likely the "version" you buy dictates the support group that helps you. If you're in North America then you'd want the support group that's awake when you are. If you're in Europe then you'd want there support group. By "support group" I don't mean MMP Anon, I mean tech-support.
It all makes sense from a technical and business point of view. Which usually means it doesn't make sense from an end user's point of view. *sigh* -

So these archetypes come out after CoV? Because Statesman already said his archetype won't come into play until after CoV is released. -

We already implemented Time Travel...
Wait, we haven't yet? What year is this? 2004! Oh... um, ignore me.
[/ QUOTE ]
That means we already have it in the future! So we just have to wait so they can add it...but we already have it in the...future...but not...yet...I mean...
Ow, paradoxes always give me a headache.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless you take the parallel quamtum dimensions theory, where each event that could have multiple outcomes - does. Each out come becomes a new "reality" and you could skip between "realites" that are out of time-sync. So, it's not really time travel... but it's close.
Read Timeline (don't see the movie) to have a clue what I'm talking about. -
In my experience, Segregation is not the same "evil" subject in Europe that it is in the US. Then again, Euros didn't seem to think about it as much either. So don't assume that NCsoft is segregating its player base, this is a purely technical decision.
My question is, can US players make heroes on the Euro server. I know a few of my "new" friends will be switching to the Euro servers due to poor ping ratings and I'd like to make a hero over there so I can "hang out" one in a while. -

Ah I remember my boomtown days. I loved that map! It's where I met a lot of my long time friends and SG members. The hunting there was always so good at that lvl. Faultline on the other hand was one of those places I always tried to avoid.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm with you on this one. Boomtown is the best XP/minute zone once you're L16-19. Before that, it's just annoying. Faultline is aweful! There's bosses in every pack of MOBs and bosses at L14?! You just get owned and sent back to Steel Canyon. It's a lesson in frustration. -

The problem with off-line characters being present in the base is what happens if the base is raided (by players or possibly PvE, who knows)? Do you really want to come back on and find out your hero was defeated while you were away?
Servants on the other hand is an interesting idea.

Then have the offline heroes do the "chicken with their head cut off" dance the civillians do in missions where an office/lab/facility was taken over. -
At least put the actions of Lord Recluse in the CoV trailer.

It was fun. The whole knocking on doors to get a Trick or a Treat was great!
However, there were more than a few doors that gave nothing when they said Treat.
If you wanna check logs I was on as PraetorianGuard, a Katana/Invulnerability Scrapper. -
You didn't get anything pre-Issue #2.
That was the change. -

Can I be a smith? Then I can mine for ore, and use a forge to make... er, wait... wrong game.
