I second Kheldians.
[/ QUOTE ] Are the blasts going to do knockback. If I solo that's fine, but I find its so annoying to play with Energy Blasters since they are always breaking up groups I've worked so hard to debuff with my Trick Arrow/Dark. I don't want to inflict that on others.
[/ QUOTE ]
For a human-only Warshade, only three attacks that you may use often will cause knockback, once of which is supposed to since it's one of your control powers (it also does Stun). Shadow Blast, Dark Detonation, and Gravitic Emanation all have knockback. Gravitic Emanation has the highest chance to hit with it, but it also Stuns the targets. Dark Detonation is very similar to Explosive Blast, and Shadow Blast is a lot like Energy Blast, so that can give you an idea of how "often" those will cause KB.
The "semi-nuke" Unchain Essence and the "true nuke" Quasar also do knockback, but they do enough damage to compensate usually.
The trick with knockback is to understand how it works and attempt to mitigate it yourself as much as possible. Use walls/corners to your advantage and make sure that anything you knockback is going to be defeated by you. Knockback can be annoying in the wrong hands, but in good hands, it's a very powerful effect. -

I've had people that were bad players turn Task Forces and missions into a mess before and I never felt so angry that I referred to them as trash. That's just me though.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're confusing disdain for anger.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, well, personally I have never felt such disdain for a player, no matter what they've done, that I felt the need to call them "trash."
That's just me though, just throwing my opinion out there. Maybe I've been lucky and haven't met players that were that bad yet. Nothing against anyone that does want to call other people trash, if that's your thing.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, you just go for passive-aggressive holier-than-thou attitude.

I do a mixture of both. Both being "in your face 'rudeness/truths'" and passive-aggressiveness. Keeps people on their toes. -

I'm not sure how "it must be male and masculine" has anything to do with it, but I suggest a human-only WS. I run one myself, and it's a ton of fun. She only has basic IOs slotted on her right now as well, so the "challenge" is still there.
You've got reasonable resistances in the resist toggles, and you can fill the Immobilize/KB/Hold "holes" with CJ (or Shadow Cloak), and Acro. Personally, I just went with CJ and a -KB IO. One of your most powerful attacks that you can grab as early as 18 is Gravity Well, which doubles as a Hold power.
You also get a power called Stygian Circle, which drains dead foes to fill your health and endurance bars so if you kill quick enough, you'll never have to stop (and any damage you take doing so is inconsequential). There are lots of control-ish powers in both the blast and armor sets as well, and each attack has -speed -recharge tacked onto it for added control. Later on, you get the option of pets and Eclipse to really take your character into Destroyer Mode, and if you ever manage to die, you have a self rez to fall back on, though you need a foe nearby for it to work.
The only thing I can say negatively about that character is that it was rather slow to start out, but that was due to my restrictions regarding enhancements (I waited until 27 before slotting any). -
Asking the same question in the same thread (as the very next post after yours, no less!) 8 minutes apart isn't going to get your question answered any faster.

Seems odd for a home network with just a standard router to give that error.

If there is a hidden timer for the time allowed then they need to say you have X time before he escapes.

According to your link, you had to prevent him from escaping. Apparently you took too long to get to him and he got away from you. There isn't a visible timer for any of the "runner" objectives, either, so you've gotta hustle and find 'em quickly. -

team with controllers that have AoE immobilize. Then KB won't be effective
[/ QUOTE ]
Gravity is the one exception to that tactic though. Crushing Field does not prevent KB effects.
[/ QUOTE ]
But Gravity's hold and single target immob grant KB protection.
Dark's Tentacles don't grant KB protection.
In fact, I find that's it's rather random which immobs and holds grant KB protection and which don't.
[/ QUOTE ]
It might depend on whether the set's other powers include KB or not... I think.
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe, though Ice's area immobilize power has -KB on it, which clashes with Ice Slick. The same is true for Stone Cages and Earthquake. -

Trains and Pocket D don't have fees because they still want to encourage players to move around the city and to see new areas. It would be a major turn-off to have a new player unable to move to a mission in, say, Kings Row, because they can't afford the train ticket (yes, they could move through zones, but that's also a big bummer and a waste of time). And Pocket D is just snazzy-looking, and people like the look of snazzy things.

I was always curious about this: what would happen if a Kheld fused with someone, willingly, of less-than-noble persuasion? It would still be a Peacebringer or Warshade, just an evil one?
Nictus attempt to dominate their hosts. The kheldian AT's are both more-or-less-equal partners, and yet the kheldian ATs seem to unerringly pick hosts who will become heros, never villains?
[/ QUOTE ]
That's an interesting question. And I suppose it is bound to happen.
For Warshades, I guess they would just be Nictus. Maybe independent Nictus, having already made the decision not to control their host, but merely to partner with it, but the backstory seems to imply that the Warshades are merging with a willing human for the first time, as a sort of experiment. So the Warshades really start off as "evil", and take on good qualities because of their host and because they're tired of it. Merge with an evil host and they will probably retain most of their willingness to sacrifice and experiment on others to gain power.
A Peacebringer would be more interesting. It's possible that the Peacebringers that rebel against the others in some of the story arcs do so because of their hosts, for whatever reason the host is more aggressive and less trusting than the norm. It's also true that Peacebringers themselves are not particularly good, they seem somewhat amoral, with a code of conduct somewhat different from us, being made of energy. They also tend to distrust Warshades in their natural form, only learning to trust from being with humans.
So yeah, I could see all sorts of possibilities here. The Peacebringer could find himself manipulated by an evil human, and once their personalities merge, the darker nature of the Peacebringer itself could come out.
[/ QUOTE ]
For my WS specifically, my character's own willpower keeps her nictus at bay while retaining the use of abilities in humanoid form. The combination of Dual Builds and Going Rogue will finally allow me the ability to let the nictus gain control in her moments of weakness, changing her into an evil tri-form who stalks the Rogue Isles. When she's able to gain control again, she goes back to being pure humanoid and fighting on the heroes' side.
For that character alone, I'm anticipating Going Rogue with much enthusiasm. -

Please, go on. I would like to hear your opinions on how the blast sets play out in pvp. I am sure it will be a very stimulating conversation.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was mostly trying to avoid the obvious comparison to the WoW forums regarding the "faceroll" comment. Everyone thinks that anything remotely viable in PvP is a "faceroll" class/spec because these same people feel that their unique flower AT/Spec is just too good (and they often wonder why no one else has noticed -- it must be all the faceroll classes!)
For those who are unaware, the term "faceroll" is used extremely literally to describe the player rolling their face on the keyboard and destroying opponents. It's to represent skill-less and easy-to-use play.
The numbers have already pointed out that Psi Blast is between Ice and Fire for damage numbers, but gives up all the hard/soft control of Ice in order to do so (and it's still below Fire). Sonic only looks good on paper because you're taking into account the resistance debuff which, with how how PvP works, you likely won't have it on them for the entire fight. The two control powers being a single-target Stun and a Cone Sleep aren't enough to put the set beyond mediocre. In short, Psi Blast doesn't have to rely on a debuff to do above-average damage, just like Ice or Fire... yet it still falls short of Fire anyway even ignoring that Fire can pump out far superior AoE numbers in addition to its single-target superiority. So does Ice, for that matter, regarding AoE and as pointed out earlier, it does a far better job of controlling the target than Psi.
I play a flying Energy/Energy Blaster in PvP with a heavy lean on ranged damage, so I'm no stranger to blasting. -
[ QUOTE ]
Numbers are cool and all, but it really is pvp easy mode, and this a thread about pvp. I am not saying omg nerf it. I will say you can face roll with one and do pretty decent though. Yes I have one, yes I play it, yes I will continue to play it.

Over half my toons are female..
99% of the new ones I make are female.
Why? because I'd rather look at an attractive female than some guy for 50 levels.
[/ QUOTE ]
I see this a lot, and it never makes sense to me. Sure, a costume idea can look better on a female than on a male especially with the kinds of unique pieces they have, but if you're spending so much time looking at your character, how can you play the game? I really don't get it, but to each their own I suppose.
Around half of my characters are female and the other male. I have no "neutral" genders (aka: machines) nor aliens that aren't clearly a specific gender. I just go with the gender that best fits the background or costume I'm after. So far, it's split my genders pretty much right down the middle.

Yes, it is extremely ridiculous.
I seriously think that since the PL'ing exploits became available there was a massive influx from a certain other MMORPG where the players don't behave as politely and are nowhere near as friendly as the average CoX player of old.
I have a feeling that this new crowd came because they don't think you can "really" play an MMORPG until you hit level 50.
Those of us that have been here for a while know that is not the case with CoX.
If you rush to level 50 in CoX, you missed the "playing" of the game.
CoX is about exploring the game environment as you progress.
Once you are level 50, pretty much everywhere except for the MA and the highest level zones aren't a challenge or worth taking the time to explore.
I can only hope that once they get to level 50 they take the time to make a new character and really play the game.
---
For any of you new players reading this. Here are somethings that I really think that you should do ::
<ul type="square">[*]Run the training/tutorial mission - read everything in it. This will help you out a whole lot. (Sure you might know a lot about another MMORPG, but you don't know the basics of CoX)[*]I strongly suggest running some missions with your contacts before you do anything else.[*] If you team up early on, do it with a team that is your level.[*]Around the time you hit level 10 and before level 17, go to the university in Steel Canyon and run the University arc to learn about IO's.[*]Before you start selling stuff on the market, talk to the Market Rep and read the info about the Market.[*]If you have questions, use the [Help] channel by typing /hc [message]. There are still those of us who will help you. - but if you don't know basics, you might want to start at the top of my list before asking. I know that's the first place I will send you if you are asking about information that is in the tutorial/training area.[/list]
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd like to add on there, "Avoid the Sewers until you've done missions from your contacts."
The sewers are the gateway drug to MA PLing hehe.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay first allow me to disagree on the sewers. While I DO agree a brand new player should run some missions in AP or Galaxy to get a feel for the game .. running the sewers in no way automatically leads to constant PLing. It's another methood of teaming and a fast way to find yourself at level 5, 6 or even higher. Then off to KR to run radios and get your Raptor Pack. I frequently use the sewers to get a few powers and levels under my belt and have NO desire to sit in the AE building, or PI before it existed, and run the same mission over and over and over again.
[/ QUOTE ]
You are obviously not a new player and thus my statement doesn't apply. It's to the brand new people who wind up on a sewer team, blow through 10 levels and expect to keep that pace, then complain when they don't know how to do anything, go anywhere, and are bored because they got to level 50 in 2 days.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can't say I've ever seen this behavior outside of the people who already thought they should be able to blow through levels and reach 50 in two days. The sewers is just a hazard zone, and the only reason I've ever recommended doing a bit of your first contact's missions was to get more powers to make surviving the sewers easier. You can street-sweep in hazard zones later on, so the sewer is no different from that.
It's only a "gateway to PLing" if the person in question was looking for that (fast levels) to begin with. -

Intolerance: not just for the religious! (This is a joke, so don't jump down my throat. Keep in mind I consider Atheism a religion. No, I am not Atheist.)
In your own words: "get over it". I do "light" RP every now and then, and it's caused me problems in the past with people exactly like you. I actually managed to acquire a large circle of players to play with on my alt server a couple years ago, but after a few months of playing with them they all disappeared on me the very day it was "discovered" that I wasn't a girl. They never asked; they just assumed that because I typed in complete sentences and I made references about my character's history/backstory that I must have been a girl (the character in question was female, which probably lent aid to their hope).
To keep a long story short, one of the guys I played with said something, I mentioned that I'm a guy IRL, and *every single person in aforementioned group* disappeared. That character is still level 35 after 2-3 years because of it.
I still light RP, and that was the only instance of something drastic happening because of it. It's not the norm, and why you label all RPers as some abomination simply because you can't understand it astounds me.
EDIT: Intolerance clarification -

I love how nerf-herding crybabies don't last long on our forums. We have too many people who pull out facts to put them in their place. -
[ QUOTE ]
I've PL'd my last 5 or so (I think, I lost track) 50's almost all the way up, and enhanced them once they hit 50. I never played any of them until they were 50, and yet my teammates are asking for me to bring those characters, and are more than happy to team with me.
Just because someone PL'd their character doesn't mean they don't know how to play it, and the kind that are incredibly stupid about that (or refuse assistance when offered) are the ones who will probably quit the game in frustration for a different reason at some point. I'm not saying it's not something to get frustrated over, but there's this rather idiotic misconception going around that everyone who PL's a character is incapable of playing that character. It takes only a little basic intelligence and understanding of game mechanics to know "use this power when you want to do this, but don't use it for that."
[/ QUOTE ]
Apparently, it's too much to ask to read posts. This isn't about people who PL their characters but can still play them. Those types of people will probably not even be noticed since there would be little reason to "check badges" on someone who knows what they're doing. They're clearly talking about people who PL their characters and don't know jack all about anything, let alone how to play the character they just PL'd. This includes having no "basic intelligence and understanding of game mechanics". Whether or not you think the "stupid PLers" are going to quit or not doesn't matter.
So please, if you're going to get on a soap box, at least read the thread. Oh, and I really hope you don't claim that your post was just "another view/possibility" because it clearly wasn't.
