Suppression from the Crab Spider build is a good cone AOE, and I put some +Range into it.
Recommended? Yeah, by me!
Commonly done? Don't care. -
Agreed. CoH demands a lot from the computer, even though it was released five years ago. Shutting down other programs or adding more RAM will reduce load times.
-
It really, really depends. Sometimes I like wading through piles of opponents and casually laying waste to them.
Sometimes I like real nail-biter fights, where I have to really sweat to win.
And what setting this requires can be radically different depending on who I'm playing and the team, if any, makeup. -
Quote:It's a bummer. The Lady Grey Task Force, and Imperious Task Force require either a bit more brute force, or more finesse than the usual run. The Statesman's Task Force last mission can be difficult, so I understand her wanting to be in good shape for them.A couple of nights ago, I congratulated a relatively new player (6 month vet) on her very first level 50. While she started a number of different alts, her Rad/Rad defender was the one she fell in love with and played almost exclusively for the last couple of months.
Up to that point, she had done most of the hero side TFs but had yet to try the three of the more popular end game TFs: the Statesman TF, the Imperius TF and the Lady Grey TF. She was eager to try them out, since they represented completely new and unexplored content for her.
Upon reaching 50, some of the comments she made were rather interesting (paraphrasing): "Yay, level 50 at last. Now all I need start farming so I can afford all those IOs." You see, she was under the impression that you had to have IOs to even attempt the end game TFs, and that her mostly SO build would be inadequate.
I tried to tell her otherwise, but she commented that she had seen other Rad defenders and they seem to heal faster, take less damage and have their key debuffs up faster. She remained convinced that a TF team leader would take one look at her character info, see the karma -knockback IO as her only set bonus and kick her off the team. Understand that the player in question also played World of Warcraft for a couple of years and apparently such gear discrimination is a lot more common in that game.
I even told her I'd be happy to start up any TF she wanted, invite good and friendly players and would gladly take her Rad defender. She demurred stating that she'd feel terrible if she "dragged down" the team, and that she'd only join once she was convinced that she could pull her own weight.
So today, she contacted me and asked me how to farm with her new level 50 and asked me for tips on how to leverage the market to get influence quickly. She told me that she had started an electric/shield scrapper, not because she enjoyed playing scrappers, but because they were good farmers. Somehow, this left me a little sad.
However, the Lady Grey, and especially the Imperious Task Force are run soooo often that they are routine for a lotta people, so getting onto one of those is usually easy, and not a guaranteed success, but a good bet.
However, try to persuade her that with a good crew, you can have a lot of fun and still have a good shot at success, even at the tough ones.
Minimal gear snobbery here, although it can happen.
Good player + cheap build = good player! Good enough for me! Tries hard, learns, adjusts.
Dumb player + Billion Build = dumb player! Useful as Vengeance bait, or distraction, or comedy. Fine when it's an easy job, but not useful when it's a close call to success. -
Quote:Recently did a MoSTF. Was afraid to let the team down after a few failures when it first came out.Ever since my first Hero, I've never been able to pick up another Tanker. Invul/EM still feels kinda clunky atm (I blame EM. Something went wrong between when I first rolled him and now) and every other tanker set just...yeah. I guess getting one to 20+ would help a lot.
I can't play Controllers or Dominators. I just cant. I dont know why.
However, thanks to a tonne of purples and greens, and some awesome teammates, (Thanks 3D and Victory Global!), I got me a badge!
Highest Dom I have is 10, and highest controller is 32, despite having been around for 4.5 years. That probably won't be changing for a while. Just not my cup of tea. -
Quote:I've seen similar situations to this, AmazingMoo. It's a downside of the SSK system, for sure. A few additional options or features could help.Sadly, that was not the case. I'd finished the first mission with Electric Eel and was on the second mission with... Bedrock? The Lead Stoner who's been gathering magical artifacts, at any rate. When I called in, I got the merits for the arc and introduced to Flux.
In the larger picture of things, in the ease of how my friends and I team up and have fun together without having to play "sidekick tetris", I think we're ahead. -

When you decide to continue your subscription, I'd suggest you check out buying a Mac Edition serial code, or an AE edition serial code, as you'd get the month (usually $15), and some extra goodies (usually $10) for $20.
Warning, though, you can only apply one of each edition code to a single account.

Quote:Agreed. Big scraps, or steamroller teams still have tactics going off. Prioritizing targets for mezzes or damage, picking buff and debuff targets, positioning for AoEs, supporting teammates if they are in trouble. Heck, even scrappers can "heal" by dropping a green inspiration on an ailing teammate.Yeah, but with just enough strategy and focus needed that it isn't quite as brainless as Zombie or Rikti raids on normal city zones. You have to coordinate bombs, drop the Rikti Magi quickly, etc. If not, you have mass death from the bombs going off unannounced, the Magi are holding all the squishies and causing mass death from their AOEs, etc.
Still a pretty big scrum, though. Quite epic. -
Complete (or drop) all open missions. Complete all open story arcs.
Look at your contact list, starting from the bottom. Talk to any obviously low level contacts. They will probably refer you upwards. -
There's an interesting repetition on the theme of divinity in CoH. The Banished Pantheon worships and tries to restore gods that have been banished, Statesman and Recluse are avatars of Greek gods and titans, the Rikti are genocidally anti-religious, the Circle of Thorns and the Descendents of Mu enlisted various divine(infernal?) creatures in their war, and the Shadow Shard may be the mind of a broken god.

As previously stated, the Eye of the Magus Accolade gives you a useful power, although with a 25minute unenhanceable recharge. It's a good "OMFG!" button.
Getting the Illusionist badge used to be a major hurdle for this. -
Amen. If possible, please point the new player to this forum.
When I assemble Task Force teams, I rarely pay attention to ARCHETYPES, never mind their set bonuses! I will look at them out of occasional curiosity, but I've never found a correlation between poor performance and lack of set bonuses.

Make sure you are using the latest video drivers.

For those Rikti who are stranded, lost, seeking peace and needing a new home, there can be accomodation.
For those Rikti desiring bloodshed, conquest, and domination over this Earth, seek not these things, for you will find only a thousand deaths, by the four elements, the hard edge of steel, the speeding bullet, the bare hands of the dedicated, by power of the mind, and the mysteries of magic. Your dooms will be as varied as the stars across the sky, but they will have in common the strength of those defending their home! -
Used Teamspeak, Vent, Skype, and I like Skype the best.
Interface takes some getting used to, but it works. Having 6-8 people is stable, and manageable. It's usually with RL friends only, so we gab about other stuff as well. -
Base editing is very forgiving. Yup, 100% of prestige spent is returned.
You can re-arrange rooms, move stuff around, delete, add, without significant loss. You came to the right place to ask questions about beginner bases.
You can drop a few storage items in your starter base as well. Handy! -
1) Debt allows you to gather more influence/infamy before the next level
2) Paying off debt gets you badges
3) Debt slows your experience POINT gain, but allows you to gain more actual experience.
4) Chicks dig debt. -

Quote:Hahaha! That's a GREAT reason for getting kicked!Ive been on many...many...many PuGs and stuff happens all the time.
Ive never kicked someone when theyve taken two seconds to explain the situation. Even something like "brb gotta mow the lawn" or "afk for a sex" (turned out that one was a typo)....but...
If someone establishes a pattern of inactivity then they get a polite tell asking if everything is okay....no response gets them kicked with a polite tell again "let me know when youre back at the keyboard and Ill reinvite. Ill save a spot for you.". But 30 seconds is not a pattern....heck I dont even call that being inactive.
A few minutes after leaving a mission Ill kick someone if they havent exited (greater good and all that) but again...polite tell.
The key I guess is communication. Its a two way street. If I expect you to let me know about extended afk, then I should be responsible enough to let you know whats going on on my end.
Not this years Baby New Year mission but last years I joined a team of seven heroes with my namesake (Frogfather: Level 50 Brute, green skinned frog wearing a suit and fedora). I made a joke "Just so we're clear, are we eating the baby or saving it this time?"....then we run the mission and the baby gets lost (before the handy little arrow on the map). We search but are having problems re-finding him. I comment that Im "So full"....."so what are you guys searching for?" After a few minutes I get kicked....I had to send a tell to the leader to get reinvited explaining that you cant actually eat Baby New Year. Good times. -
Quote:If you have the game downloaded already, there is nothing else to download. Trial players and full accounts use the exact same download/install.Oh im not new to this game just making and paying for my own account...but lol...now that i look there is no jetpack offer mentioned so it must be a time card so thanks for your help everyone about to download from steam...
The Steam purchase should give you a string of letters and numbers. You use these to UPGRADE your trial account at the NCSoft Master Account Page.
I don't want to seem condescending. But I do want you to have a smooth start (restart?) to your career in heroism/villainy. -
Wouldn't have a problem with that. Not sure how it would play in a team used to steamrolling all opposition.
