I find this comment particularly amusing

If that's from one of you guys, I'm flattered...but really? You trust me, an animator/VFX artist or Castle, a power designer, over a NCSoft exec who actually knows what they're talking about? Why...because we're chatty here on the forums? Posi I could understand, cause theoretically he'd be the most 'in-the-know'. I would have thought that announcing a long overdue, genuine expansion pack for CoH/CoV could only be viewed as a positive thing for our game. How did someone manage to spin it into a sign of impending doom?

So many comments on NCSoft in relations to unsuccesful games. As someone who was working on Auto Assault when it launched, I've never felt that its failure was due to a lack of support from NCSoft. Quite the opposite, they let us push the launch date quite a ways back for a much needed overhaul and polish phase. Post launch, the game did not do well and rather than completely cut and run, NCSoft still supported the game long enough to try and turn things around. Alas, it just wasn't enough. The game simply failed on it's own merits...but it had more than a fair shot, imo.

I'm not trying to blow smoke up anyone's backside here, but we're doing pretty damn good for an MMO that's heading toward's its 6th birthday and we plan to be here for a while. There have been a lot of talented people who've helped shape this game over the years, and while there have been mis-steps here and there, we really are trying to make the right decisions for the overall benefit of the game that we're all so invested in. It's a tough gig, we've got a lot of hard work ahead of us, but I really do think that the best days are still to come and I hope you guys will stick around for the ride.
Did you finally teach those Rikti Monkeys to animate, BaBs? Thus freeing you up for forum posting?
If so, here's a whip. Go use it on Jay, willya?

And I do agree with what some of the others have said. You guys care about this game. We as a player base (for the most part) would rather trust you than some suited exec who is only concerned about profit margins and income figures. I know I would, anyway.

And keep up the great work. City of Heroes is just breaking down barriers like your namesake on a Rampage Walk, Dual Pistols, Ultra Mode...keep em coming!

It's essentially the same thing, except one requires at least one extra keystroke and usually generates more keys than you actually need.
Ah, but you guys use Studio Max? Maya seems to have a different system. Either way, if the head of 3D, a rather tech and animation savvy guy calls 'em evil, they are evil. Same as sweeping cameras and lens flares

Trying to take down Eochai, we picked up a Rad/Rad corruptor. Who, it turns out, was a "healer." AOE heal aura, rez, AM... and that's it. No debuffs. Med pool, IIRC. And utterly useless for what we needed.
    Bah, Rad/Rad isn't about heals!
Rad/Rad is about going "Bwhehehe, Freem beams! Laser eyes! Oh look, their eyes are bleeding orange! And their nose is melting! Kehehehehe!"

Remember, they do animation - they don't have anything to do with bug fixes, server issues, costume parts, mission design, map creation or finding a way to make Jay less sexy - they do animation.

So maybe they look at a list of low priority/unscheduled requests involving animation, and decide to use this free work time to add the most popular one that's been requested by lots of players for ages?

I'm just suggesting that there are probably more important things to do than put in a walk feature.

But if it works for the RPers then cool.
Sorry, but I have to /facepalm at this.

This is something BaBs did Alongside ALL the other work he is doing at the moment, for GR and other issues!

He did this off his own back because he wanted to/made extra time for it!

I mean, jeese louise, sure things are broken in game at the moment, sure it would be nice if they were fixed, yes I've also ranted about things in the past. Bad stuff happens.
Why for the love of pete do people always bring out the 'Whine' list when something good, however small, comes out.

It could be worse. It could have been a big point of an ISSUE, not just a PATCH.

Ok we already have two builds available to us right? Well, lets expand on that. My idea is that when you get to 50 you unlock a new build. But this is a special build. This build will start over at lvl 1 and allow you to choose a new powerset to use. NOTE: This would not be like now where the levels between your builds are the same, the new build would start at lvl1 again. Also, when that build hits 50 you get to choose a new build, and ect. Thus, this would allow you to expand upon your heros current abilities without cheating the system.
    I approve of that.

Example is my psionicist, Kitsune Vixen. Her main build is an Empath/Psi defender, but she is also capable for more focussed psionic attacks (Psi/Mental Blaster) and she's also a skilled martial artist (MA/SR or Willpower Scrapper).

Having three different characters is a bit of a pain, so atm I have the Defender and the Blaster version (I deleted the old blaster at damn level 32 to make way for the damn scrapper and ended up damn deleting the damn thing damn anyway! /still bitter)

Starting over from 1 on the same character would be nice. Given build switching is on a 15 minute timer as it is...thats actually longer than logging out and switching toons, so..hardly exploitable.

Wait, this is NEWS to you?

Jay is an egotist of the Nth degree who acts like he has entitlement syndrome.
No, I don't particularly like him, and, Yes, I think I could do a better job than him.

I'm waiting to see if they actually got any decent work out of him for GR. Some of it looks good enough to forgive a few more sins so far.
  18. I remember suggesting way back when, I think, about an Archive building.
(I think I suggested it...maybe it never made it to the boards...)

Either way, old missions and suchnot would go here, as would some new content.
Want to know what the battles of Dawn Patrol vs the Storm Korps were like? Find out in the History section!
Other historic evens could be re-lived bia the Archives, as well as old content that was cut but that some people would like to re-run for the old time feel.

Now, the "more weapons" sentiment I can very much echo. Please, please give us more weapons. But actually GIVE us the weapons, don't slap them on some level 35+ content or behind a terrible grind.
Damnit, Sam, stop making me agree with you!

But yes. Unlockables ONLY work when they are realistic.
I am still angry about my Nemesis renegade concept Redside, given the Nem rifles need the Unveiler badge...do you have ANY idea how hard that is to get? When you're level 15?

I can't really disagree with most of those, but then I don't really have anything much to say on them, either. Sorry.
    ^ This, pretty much.

Although I get sick of people asking for new zones, especially Hero Side. Why? Because most of the old zones Suck. With a capital S. The contacts suck, the door missions are poor, the general gad-about is horrible. Redside this isn't so much of an issue. They had more experience by that time. GR will be setting the new bar...so why not revamp the stuff that is in dire need of a revamp?

Also, until PvP is made a bit more viable for the majority, I think those sorts of suggestions should be put on the back burner.

I know [Walk] should come first

It can be done with proper planning and care, and it's not actually all that hard. I'm just saying that they're not an AT which inherently gets a free pass on endurance use. They actually use quite a lot when it comes down to that.
Especially if you dont like sitting back doing nothing, and enjoy tossing an attack or two into the mix. I make use of Pulse Rifle Burst, the odd punch for laughs, and a Nem Staff. Cos that thing packs a punch.

Run two leadership toggles and a shield. And thats not counting Traps as a secondary. Certain secondaries are even more end consumptive, so Stamina, although you dont need it so bad at 20, it can still be quite necessary.

I still think that endurance use across the board needs balancing, because, with JUST SOs and normal usage, running without Stamina is a challenge that just doesn't seem like fun.
    (Bar Regen, Willpower etc, YMMV)

Oddly enough, one of the lowest level mobs in the game actualy comes across as one of the most nasty from the get go; The Skulls.

Those masks aren't papier-mache or anything. According to canon they actually WEAR skulls, from their first victim, the rite of passage to the gang. Their graphics need and update (I think all the mobs from the early game need an update and some, like the Outcasts, need a whole look overhaul.) but they are still, canon-wise, rather evil buggers.

Crey are just corporate backstabbers and slightly shady types. They actually do, on the off, a bit of good at times. Skulls? They're cold blooded murderes and dark magic practioners.
Its a pity the lower level mobs dont get more focus. Cos some of them are very cool.

Obviously, the original poster has upgraded. However, there are caveats with upgrades. Sometimes software built against legacy platforms won't work, and so yes, sometimes it's worth it to have a legacy platform around to continue to use legacy code.

There are also some cases where some programs are better left to a legacy platform. I happen to be of the opinion that tools like MIDS are among them. I don't like MIDS for a variety of reasons. It's one thing to look at a list of numbers and think "that looks good." It's entirely another thing to actually put those numbers into realistic play. MIDS can tell you everything there is to know about the raw numbers, but it won't tell you one lick about how an avatar plays. It won't tell you what the natural strengths or weaknesses are. It won't tell you what enemies you'll face, nor how to switch up your playing style for the needs of a team. It won't tell you how long you'll have to farm or how many TF's you'll have to run to afford the IO sets you want. It won't tell you what's actually available.

For these and many other reasons, I don't use MIDS, and I'd have a hard time justifying anybody spending time to port the underlying code to a better operating system base, much less maintaining the current lists of enhancement sets.

But... that's just me. Obviously some people find value in the tool. I'm not one of those people.
See my counterpoint in another thread about Jam and Marmalade, and how YMMV.

Just because some people don't like a certain OS doesn't mean it's terrible. I, for example, can't stand Macs. Mostly due to the layout, the different keyboard, and a general clunky feel. That doesn't make YOUR opinion and results any less valid. I just dont have the same tastes. Nor does everyone.

    So, less rage, m'kay? =]
