The only time we had to go grab Shivans was on a LRSF. We all got them with ease, vengeanced them...and STILL got our backsides kicked. General accord seems to be that Numina went spam-happy with the buffs while we all went to hospital the first time or so. So, needless to sya, we failed that run.
Aisde from that...I've not run into any of that stuff yet. I've not once had anyone tell me to de-summon my pets, and, if they did, I would laugh in their face. The only time it felt like a waste was on said LRSF, when Synapse and Positron both ganked me every time I so much as opened fire, despite having SC defences to everything...Damn lvl 53 Heroes...
And I highly doubt the end-game will be 'loot' based. The Devs have mentioned incarnate 'levels', most likely something to be built up individually for each character and alt. I see no real way of making 'loot' happen in this game, even if it was wanted. -
Quote:Oh gods...That reminds me, tell us about these mysterious marketing people. Do they have names? Do they even have faces?
For some reason the words "CoX marketing team" have become synonymous with Pratchett's"Auditors" to me.
THEM!
Yes...Thats actually a really good parralel now you mention it...why didn't I think of that? Oo -
Either you can or you can't, really. I find it fairly easy, because characters for me are very much their own entities that, once properly formed, go off on paths of their own. I don't have any real racists amongst my list, but I do have someone who hates aliens and demons and such, and one who wants to see Humanity as it is now wiped out in atomic destruction
You do it pretty well so far Blargy, put it that way

It could be worse. At least, hate her though I do, she does ok damage.
It COULD be the RWZ arc, save General Grandpa and Dipl'omat. Ye gods I HATE that mission. Never EVER design a mission with pet level allies that you CANT get out the door and then put them fighting NEMESIS! With their ungodly accurate mass AoEs and single target nukes. Seriously...I end up skipping that mission I hate it so much. -
I would agree with this, t'be honest. It's meant to be a failsafe last countermeasure. It kills you as it is. In a way, its like asking for a change to make sure you die.

Im actaully confused as to what the smeg the suggestion is, and why...

Quote:Oh-kay? At what point did I mention capes + wings? I know you cant have both, as should everyone else at this point.Valkyrie Cape or Wings, Magic Booster capes, and the 21 month Vet Rewards shoulder capes are all available from character creation. Care to put out another theory as to why capes and wings don't use the same anchor point? I say this because you didn't do anything to disprove my point: there is only one place to put either wings or capes, the back. This is why we can't have both wings and a cape (besides it looking funny).
I was saying '"The only way I see this happening is IF, somehow, they managed to make wing 'sets' that anchor to just the back point. If they cant, which is most likely, it's not going to happen, no matter if it might look cool or not."
Passive aggressive comments are not appreciated, hmkay? -
That idea reminds me of Abyss from Soul Calibur 3. Man, that bag of bones could be nasty when he got on a roll...

Quote:This is exactly the point im trying to make. People seem to have this death-grip on 'revampe = it MUST look different'.Make a cool new zone, and everyone can play it without losing anything from their game experience. Re-vamp DA and you're removing content for a certain demographic.
Even the lamest zone has SOMETHING for people to do, even if it's just farming big ol' spawns or stress testing builds. If you remodel the zone, that is lost.
Adding new zones increases the total content of the game more than re-vamping zones does. And in the MMOverse, more is better.
Now, in a perfect world with unlimited resources, yeah it'd be great if they could re-do every zone in the game from the ground up using the latest and greatest techniques and technology.
Since that isn't gonna happen, I agree with the devs that from a resource allocation/bang for buck perspective new zones have it all over remodeled ones.
No. Dark Astoria looks great. Creys folly looks great. Perez looks great, and should look freaking beautiful and creepy with Ultra Mode.
But there is next to NOTHING to do in them. Sure, you can hunt the GMs if there is one and 'blow up zombies by the truckload'. But it would be nice to run actual missions in there, and not just get sent there from the other end of the city on a one of mission which makes you simply resent the zones existance.
Leave the zone architecture alone. And simply add in some contacts with story arcs, like the three/four contact 'arc' of the Hollows. Hells, maybe even a TF for good measure. That way the people who like blowing up truckloads of zombies can continue to do so...and there is less work than a 'new shiney zone' that will still be 'new' to both new AND old players. -
Quote:Because you cant sell a house if theres a few dead rats under the floorboards. You might never see them, but they make the whole house stink.new content adds to the game without deleting anything. When you're finished making a new zone you have all the old ones PLUS a brand spanking new one.
If some of the old ones stink, so what? You have other options.
Or, best analogy so far; You can stick as many shiny bits as you want on your car, but that doesnt matter if the chasis is starting to rust. -
Quote:Amen to that.I think the devs believe the original hero content is good enough to get and keep subscribers.
I disagree. I think the rest of the game is good enough to get subscribers, but the majority of the hero content actually puts them off.
That's not just my opinion. I've been hearing players in my teams crab about it since 2005.
Who knows how many players we'd have in the game if the devs paid more attention to the value of the content? -
-
Quote:Agreed. The Shard Tfs sound like even more grim torture than the current/old Posi.Bad Content is better than no content at all? Nah I don't think so. The zones weren't ready for prime time when they came out, and they're most definitely not up to snuff compared to what we've gotten since. I love the Shards. But no way do I want to see them expanded without a significant revamp.

Quote:1) Some of them just need cutting out all together. But agreed.1) Replace some of the Fed-ex missions with just text of "Alright, I sent that stuff over to OtherContact and he said..". (Reduced Merit Rewards for shorter arc?)
2) Defeat Alls.....wait, you mean some missions aren't? (Sorry, I R Broot or Scrapper.
)
3) Hunts. *sigh* Reduce to 20-25 foes at most. Seriously. "Hunt 40-50 X" is just a way to burn a mission drop on an intentional and obvious waste of a players time on a task that's not particularly attractive. (If it was, there would be more street sweeping.)
4) Cell Phone sooner on old Blueside arcs.
2) I see whut u did thar
But yeah, Blueside rarely implements the 'Defeat Boss and room' mechanic that CoV saw. I guess I17 will make this less of a chore (visible last 10% of foes or so)
3) Hollows does it right. Short and sharp, with a reason. Other zones are...urgh. And, for the love of pete, put the hunt in the same zone, at least?
4) Simple and necessary. -
The Devs have stated, time and again; "No, we are NOT raising the level cap."
So I buy into the lvl 50, lvl 50+, lvl 50++ idea. -
Or; Why Only making New Zones is a Bad Idea
Right. I shall go on to explain.
View City of Heroes and Villains, if you will, as a car. It's a good, workable car. When it first came out, it wasn't perfect. But it was very solid. And it was tweaked and tuned and pimped a little, to the 'car' we know today.
Now, however, the chasis is starting to be a bit dated. Theres a bit of rust forming. Its not quite as up to scratch as the rest of the vehicle.
But, there appears to be a problem. The people in charge of the car repeat over and over that they only want to add new bits to the vehicle. Nevermind about the rust and the old model chassis...Just slap new parts on. Its more economically effective!
Well....thats all fine and dandy, right up until that rust gets so much the chassis actually breaks.
And that feels very much like Blueside content. It's dull. It's stale. It was written back when the game first came out. The contacts send you all over the city, because it seemed like a good idea at the time. Oh, and they dont give you their cell number until about 8 missions in.
Compare that to the NEW content, and most of Red Sides content. The contacts usually have an over-riding story arc or two. They give you their number within two, three, perhaps four missions. They stick, mostly, to the same zone. If you have to go to another zone, its usually for a decent enough reason, like a mission, not a fedex. And, usually, you have the cell by then.
You can bolt new bits onto the game as much as you like. But that DOESNT stop the old stuff bieng old. Stale. Dull. Boring. Its a sea of fed-exes, defeat alls, hunts and, generally, suck. At least compared to the new stuff. And you can't avoid it. You shouldn't HAVE to avoid it, or want to avoid it. You should want to play it. It should be as fun as the rest of the game.
But right now, its rusty. And adding more new zones and new contacts will not stop the old contacts being old. You don't need to rebuild the zones. Most of them look great as it is, and will look better when Ultra Mode hits. But the contacts in them are dull and stale. And they need some attention, or that rust is just going to get worse in the face of newer, shinier, better content. -
Quote:Utter, utter BS.Positron & WW have both said that it's almost as much work to revamp zones as it is to build new ones. Thus revamping zones is less economically effective.
Thats like saying "I'm going to give my car new bodywork and lots of shiny lights, despite the fact the chasis is rusting, because repairing the chassis is less economically effective."
No it's not!! What broken school of thought thinks that you don't need to sometimes go back and do game maintenance? The old blueside content is (see last post). It is rusty. Very much so. They can add all the shinies they want, but that wont STOP the basics of the game from being rusty. In fact, it will only highlight jsut how BAD they are, compared to the new stuff. -
I doubt it will be anything so rigid and un-flexible as 'Pick your Greek god/dess of choice'. I would hazard a guess at something that lets us make signature powers of our own, given the sticky about it somewhere...I think?
Either that, or a wider array of powers to pick from than just specific deity's. I would hope, anyway. -
Dude...
Just....Duuuude....
No fair. This stuff is badass. -

Flight pool tier 9: Levitation (float on a chunk of ground. Fulfills all those 'need to be on the ground except for summoned intities' ^^)
I'd take it on my Earth/Psy dom just because it involves loating rocks.
Flight pool has 4 tiers, not 9
