If Matt Miller makes another MMO.....

I'm pretty sure his in-game character will have hair.

I'd love to see someone do a Science Fiction MMO that worked more like Classic Star Trek than Star Trek Online did when I last played it.

Have a ship for transportation from world to world, but the actual story takes place on the ground. That could be awesome.

I think Matt may not be saying a lot about his MMO design theories or preferences right now because he's trying to land a job and doesn't want to poison the well.

It's interesting to me how difficult it seems to be for game designers to avoid the Holy trinity. And it's perhaps even more so that CoH managed to (mostly) do so, despite having "locked" AT types. Even The Secret World, with a very open character creation and progression system gives rise to the dread trinity (the more-difficult content tends to be done almost exclusively by 5-man teams consisting of 1 "tanker" deck, one "healer" deck and three characters set up for DPS). I think the Holy Trinity is less something built in to most games than it is something that naturally arises...because it's effective.

Mind you, one difference in TSW is that any character can play any role, at least once they're "matured" in terms of having large portions of the ability wheel covered and have leveled up a broad selection of skills. You can build and save multiple decks and switch from a DPS deck to a Healing deck (for example) with a couple of clicks. Not in combat...but at any time the character's not in combat mode. It's fun...

I'm not saying Matt Miller should do this, but I'd love to see a game, or MMO based off of Julian May's Saga of Pliocene Exile series.

I don't know about happy but so far I am pleasantly pleased.

You might not want to read on because while this is nothing but bare facts they might upset.

Recently a game I am playing released a new issue. This is their 4th they do content updates once a month. There were bugs in the PvP instead of just letting them sit, there were devs looking at the problem and implementing fixes that went in the next day.

When those fixes weren't quite right they took steps to further minimize the problems.

The similar situation here was wait awhile and tell the players how important PvP was to the developers.

It was quite pleasing to see the contrast.

While this game was far from perfect, I still enjoyed playing this game, more then other games that were/are out there. If you've found a new game that you enjoy, have at it. If I'd been as "unhappy" as you seem to have been with this game, and it's developers, I would have moved on along time ago. I play/played this game for the entertainment value, and for the friends I made along the way.

As the saying goes, the one thing in life that's constant is change. While I'm sad to see it go and will miss playing it, the closing of the game is just another change.

Pssh.. there are still people here who don't think Fire tanks are "real tanks"... and that Dark tanks can't be made viable.

It was never the game that was "Great"

It was the in game community most of which was not represented here.

That's your opinion. Others differ. Why when people are getting together for the end of the game they consider part, including much of that community you consider great, do you have to be trashing it?

It's one thing to trash the game and parts of the community in threads about a potential future of the game. But in this, where we're reminiscing about what we love about the game, what's the need to throw dirt?

Back on topic:

1. The breadth of character/costume customization from the start. I don't want to deal with bland starter looks or earning the right to wear different clothes.

2. The ability to team without worrying about level or gear. I want to be able to play on my own and team with friends when I feel like it without having to coordinate leveling just to make sure we can still team together effectively. Just put the super-sidekicking system in everything.

If order was important I'd switch them but otherwise exactly my list.

Not being able to play a character because you'd out level your buddies or having to play a character because you're on the verge of being out leveled are not fun.

If Matt Miller makes another MMO, it better be a superhero game!

I'd tried one of his games if he made a sci-fi or something that isnt tied into or have anything to do with the lore, feel, storyline, characters of Starwars or Startrek. Something different.

Lets put it this way, even if the SaveCOH people *do* get their wish, one or two of them have said that they will never stop attacking NCsoft.

If this does happen, then in my mind, anything that the Titan Network and SaveCOH touches will forever be tainted with the touch of angry vindictive people, who even if they win will still spit on people who shared a different point of view in the past.

Just my own opinion, but hey, if some of their members are not willing to let things go even if they do win the end... then i would like nothing better for the whole titan network to be taken down and destroyed, and anything affiliated with it.

For "one or two people"? There are more people who will do that that left the forums and aren't aware of Titan. People are mad at the company for shutting things down and few are exremists. Don't lump them all together or you may miss out on a new COX...

My wishlist:

1) Another superhero game with similar combat mechanics (i.e., not focusing on "Tank, Heal, DPS" like so many other MMOs like to do) and similar customization, but add destructible environments.

2) Ban Another_Fan before the game even launches.

Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges

A_F hates anyone who likes the game because the devs didn't change it in the way he/she wanted in particular. I seriously hate using this term, but the only way I can describe it is "butthurt."

The Titan community on the other hand is practically a cheerleading squad for the game. (Not that that's necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but they can be pretty extreme from time to time.)

Therefore, A_F hates the Titan community--and especially Golden Girl--more than anything. Heck, A_F and GG are pretty much antitheses of one another: unapologetically negative and unrealistically positive.

Funny the angry vindictive part is what I like about them. Why the hell should you be nice to people you feel have shat upon you ? At the very least it should be a real nice stress relief for them. I can't say how pleasant it has been to vent more strongly here than I have in the past. Really these boards long needed an enema, and most of the posters needed to write a "Reality Check".

I don't even want them to fail, it would be nice to see them beat the odds. I just feel they have stacked the deck against themselves before they even start, and for the most part are living in fantasy instead of just visiting the way we all did.

To take a cue from Aion and Blade & Souls character creators!

Take a cue from those games art styles!

Keep it superhero!

Add a bit of grind!

No soloing AVs unless one actually gears up for it (much like many had to do now anyways).

Don't put stupid things like the invention system, auction house, ect as part of in game lore. Leave it purely OOC!

LOL.

There are only a few guiding principles that I saw being violated that I felt were bad for the game.

1. You can't treat your customers badly because this is a game.
2. You have to respect the fact that people put enormous amounts of effort into their characters. If you violate that they will be very mad.
3. You have to respect any part of the game that people put enormous amounts of effort into.
4. You can't fundamentally change a game and expect people to stay around.
5. If you don't address your customers needs they will find someone who will.

Now, if you had a build dependent on hami-Os, Blessing of the zephyr pieces, were an energy melee user, a soloist looking forward to the incarnate system, a pvper, a base builder, a build meister that worked for exemplar friendly builds, someone who bought IOs from the cash store, a badger who got the AE badges, A badger that was permanently cut off from completion, a badger that was on a smaller population server, etc etc etc, you manage to be on the wrong side of those principles being violated.

As to hate ? Really I am feeling pretty good. The wife has a new game and CoH is like a rotten tooth that NCsoft has pulled for me.
