The Memory Thread

In honor of the candle flame guttering, soon to extinguish, let us post our memories of CHVC...

MentalMaden's Bionic Woman threads. Gods, those were funny.

BafflingBeerMan's Lost discussions. Damn, he sure had the mythology and conspiracy theories down pat.

TroyHickman constantly forgetting and losing his pants. Thanks for the autographed comics, Troy. It was nice to talk with you.

UncleBob's...eccentricities. If you don't know who he is, well, you kinda missed out.

ShoNuff's tackles. I'm glad to say that I only got tackled once, I think. Memory is a bit fuzzy. I still think you're a scrawny white guy, Sho.

Lord_Of_Times worship of Christina Hendricks. Those were good threads, my gone-from-this-Earth friend. Hope you're getting to adventure in the Tardis, wherever you're at (and getting to see the complete run of the series).

To all the people who've come and gone over the years, it's been great knowing you. This place has been...home...for lack of a better word, for 8 years (as of today). There will never be another like it.

Share your memories!

For me it'd be Golden Ace's attempts to kill off the Protector Server.

Even when Badge would run our huge Robot Rampages, he STILL couldn't kill us ALL.

I miss Badge. I miss Armorshot, Ish, and all the other folks that made heroing this much fun - but at the same time there are so many others here still that are gonna make the last months great.

Avoiding all the spoiler filled discussions from people who see things the opening night. Not even a day in and those threads were huge and tempting.

I'll miss all the comic discussions. I've stopped buying comics (except for a few trade paperbacks), but it was nice being able to see what was going on.

Hearing about movie news I would otherwise have missed was also great.

And the science threads...

...God I'm gonna miss this place.

@Rylas

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.

If I could wrap each and everyone one of you up in my trousers, I'd do so.

Good times.
That is another thing I will remember. Troy has always been good for a laugh. He's the only famous person I've ever had the chance to talk with and I doubt I'll have the chance to talk with another. To the group of Troy's Zombie Survival Brigade, I toast thee! (My BAC is currently approaching Redneck. I hope to hit Irish in an hour or so...).

I really do hope he gets off his duff and gets Common Grounds 2 out. He's got potential, if he could only keep from running down the street without pants on, he could make it big time.

Same. I go hither and yon on-line and this was by far the nicest forum I've ever seen for anything - local tv station, moderated forums about X, Y and Z, etc. Nicest

Gonna miss you guys too.

I remember ShoNuff and Lord_of_Time posting tons and tons of interesting articles about gaming, stuff in development, general pop culture and cool sciencey stuff.

I remember the thread about nightmarish work experiences, and L_o_T's stories from Hell. I really miss that one, he had some good ones.

Even though they frustrated me and so many others at the time, I'll never forget all those forumites that tried their hardest to be the only ones that had the opposite opinion of most everyone else, no matter the topic. (We all know who they are, so I'll refrain from naming specific people)

They would post a thread that stated, incoherently most of the time, their opinion that the sky was red, while we all tried our hardest to convince them with sound, logical reasons why they were wrong. Invariably, the conversation would turn into "You're attacking me, so your opinion is invalid" banter before the mod sticks came out. They were truly the Don Quixotes to our windmills.

May they ever insult intelligence and reason wherever they land.

Yeah...this was "My Forum" it's where I came everyday....pop open a Tab at work and refresh often. I got ALL my nerd/geek/comic/*game news from this place. And you all kick *** for keeping my lazy *** apprised of all the goings on. It was like the internet came to me, and that was a good thing.

Damn...now I'm going to have to look for and click things on my own...

*Such a shame, this place really died when Order 66 came down and the Stormtroopers stomped the fun out of this place....or whatever it was that happened

Dunno. He just kinda disappeared one day. Didn't see any advance warning. Same with BafflingBeerMan.

I miss Sho too. Been a while since he's been around as far as I can tell.

I'm old, and have responsibilities. My internet time is limited (though I'm up way too late now for this) but under normal circumstances, it's over by now. What I'll miss the most of the forums is this section.

With said limited internet time, this was my source of information about what was going on in comic/geek culture consisted mainly of this, and what my rl friends decided to share with me. It took a hit with games being cut from the thread, but now I'm not sure where I'll hang my hat for topics that interest me when this forum disappears.

I know I lurked a lot, but especially it was because of this thread. I'd love to be the one to post something first, but a lot of you faster, more savvy folks would put what I just heard about, up well before me. That was awsome, and it taught me to respect the posters of this forum to be 'in the know' hours before I would find out. I never had to doubt that anything I saw here would be interesting, and before my limited resources would discover, if it even did.

I guess what I'll remember is that folks from Sho Nuff to Lord of Time (rest him)- and many others would always let us know what we needed to know about in this forum, and I will miss this.

For me the "Scooped" only meant that enough people cared for me to know something, that they made sure I did.

I didn't always catch the first posting of it (so I almost always saw the 'scooped' thread first) by the way, and never had the info to share first (though I wish I did from time to time). However, I didn't mind, because I knew I could depend on one of you to have it.

I couldn't agree more.
