Prediction! Scythe Weapon this October!
Yeah, that's kind of the thing with scythes. You can make a passable weapon in a pinch with some work, but that involves turning it into a decidedly un-scythe-like spear or polearm.
Titan Weapons, from the animations, works best for either a large edge weapon capable of both stabbing and slashing (i.e. a large sword), a double edged weapon (a large sword or a double headed axe), or a massive blunt object or bashing or crushing weapon (cudgels, clubs, hammers, cars on a stick, etc). The scythe would be tricky, as Rend Armor is a direct stab with the weapon, and Arc of Destruction has you smashing it down with the back of the weapon.
You want to know the secret of the world? It's this: Save it, and it'll repay you, every second of every day.

There were a lot of medieval weapons that were based off of farm tools. Flails, for example.

Well, no, it's not scythe-specific because the way Death fights is more as a dual-weapons used with kama weapons that he uses pretty much like axes. He has only a few scythe-specific attacks, usually either in executions or his reaper form attacks. What I was saying, however, is he made a primary scythe user look good enough for me to want one.
|
Also, what do you envision of being specific to a scythe? An actual scythe has a blade that points sideways of the haft so that it can cut grass on the ground without making you bed over. A what you see passed off as a scythe in fantasy and anime has a curved blade that points down the haft and looks like a giant kama. To the best of my knowledge, such a weapon has never actually existed and thus no traditional means of using it has ever been developed. |
I don't mean this to shoot you down, by the way - this is an honest question: How do you envision a scythe being used that's unique to it and can't be used for an axe just as easily? In Darksiders II, Death spears the Crowfather lying on the ground, then flips him up to stand the scythe on its end so the guy is hanging off the blade upright, but that's a very specific use for it that's not easily transferable to a genera situation. So seriously - what's specific to the scythe? |
I think it'd be interesting to see someone fight using it less as a direct offensive weapon and more as a tool/combat hazard to direct the opponent towards with clever positioning. There's also the whole "impale, then swing to sever" or "Impale, then drag them around" thing as well.
Another good example would be Maka from Soul Eater, Which uses the length and size as a defensive element(staff-style twirling) before delivering a massive, final blow leveraging, again, the size, length and sharpness against the opponent

I'll miss you all.
One way that a traditional looking scythe might work with titan weapons and staff fighting is to simply add a sharp pointy blade at the top. Do the weapon can do slashing or piercing style attacks and look appropriate while doing so.
Here's a simply example of the concept:

Animations are the trouble. You can't stab with a scythe so it's an ill fit for Titan Weapons...

It can't be any worse than stabbing with a rocket-powered hammer...

As for the scythe... I just don't think Titan Weapons are just a bad call. Hand positions are limited to just the "hilt" area even on long-hafted weapons, and the Rend Armour animation reaches so far forward it sends most of the weapon through the enemy. Honestly, I don't think that set's animations are good enough to cover as wide a range of weapons as the animators are trying to make do. It works great for swords, less well for axes and maces, and pretty badly for everything else.

I think I like the idea of having a scythe enough that, really, I do not care if I'm hitting them with the top of the stick.
The bigger thing is that if they could make the scythe go pointy end first in Arc of Destruction I'd love them forever.

I don't get why this set is using the animations it does, is my point. Not unless it really did start out as Titan Sword but got retconned into Titan Weapons-of-all-kinds later in the process. That would explain a lot if it were true.

No, it probably wouldn't, and I accept that. But I still want the scythe.
Skythe for Titan Weapons, yes.
Halloween themed staff? I'd like to see a human spine (or an enlarge version thereof).

That's why Titan Weapons is Smashing damage. The damage it deals has nothing to do with whether or not the object being used is sharp.
And honestly, a sword that large would be bludgeoning people to death instead of cutting them anyway.
My point: Very few of the weapon using sets in this game make any kind of sense from a real-world-use perspective.
Dual Pistols, Dual Blades. Staff Fighting, Claws, even some of Katana's animations are questionable. If people want a scythe for Titan Weapons, I see no issue with it, as Titan Weapons does not mean stab or slash, it means "Hit them with a giant heavy thing"

Whether it makes sense as a weapon or not, it's pretty well established that the bad-***** of the world can make it work somehow. ^_^
(Of course, in the movie Hogfather they gave Susan a sword, "Death's second-favorite weapon", which is easier to carry around and threaten people with.)

Yeah, when I think of Scythe Melee, Soul Eater is the first thing I think of. Lots of spinning with stylish slashes in between the spins. And honestly, they could probably import at least some of the animations from Titan Weapons and possibly Staff Fighting to save on some animation time.
It is an exciting time. After Bio Armor and Psy Melee, I have no idea whats coming besides Radiation Armor. I hope Scythe Melee will be considered some time.

You'd be surprised how much a QA team that size would cost. Especially since getting us to test it is free.

Either way, it can be fixed as players play with it on live!

I think what it boils down to is this:
A scythe is a tool, not a weapon. Whilst it can be used as an improvised weapon, it's just that: improvised. Thus, there is no "proper" way to fight with a scythe. You can fight with it any way you want. It should always look clumsy, because it is clumsy.
It is thus comparable to brooms, pipes, pool cues, spades, railroad signs an so on. It could be used for any powerset the model will physically fit.
I really should do something about this signature.

Oh, and after playing through Darksiders 2 twice, it is hard for me to believe that it can't be a cool weapon.
Pool Cue is also great! Love it
