"Justice League of America is now the third title at DC under the Justice League umbrella, joining Justice League Dark and Justice League. Fans can expect all of these titles to crossover eventually, but we don’t know in what capacity as of yet.
"

Haven't been following the New DC for a while now...only 2 current JL titles, did international get cancelled? Read the first few any they were awful so I wouldn't be shocked...

JLA sounds pretty damned awful as well.

I think I'd be more impressed with this title if it got rid of GL and Martian Manhunter. Never cared for Hawkman either, but GL and MM gone would make the team feel less "Well, we have these super powerful OMGOMEGALEVEL heroes, we can win anything!"

Yeah, it ended after Issue 12. I only read the first 4 or 5 then lost interest....like with every other New 52 book.

Looking forward to Johns writing Stargirl and Hawkman again.

WTH is 'Justice League Dark'?

And if you're going to have that, why not the obvious companion title 'Justice League EXtreme!!1'

Because all of DC's ideas are being cribbed from Marvel these days. It's becoming increasing evident there are too many cooks in the kitchen, which is just as bad as having a single someone with complete control.

Not looking forward to it, since Johns played the CCO card to get both Hawkman and Stargirl on the Nu52 Earth and not Earth -2 where they Should be.

Dark is basically the Justice League for all the characters who were previously either straddling the line or fully pushed off into Vertigo: Zatanna, Deadman, John Constantine, Madame Xanadu (who is also technically appearing in the fairly awesome Demon Knights series), etc.

Given the lineup for the nuJLA, they seem to be verging dangerously close to your suggested XTREEM!!1! Justice League already...

Actually, I'd just like to have someone who has a definitive vision for the DCnu. When your creators talk about how editorial interference is making it difficult to work there, then there's a problem.

I'm oddly happy to see Vibe brought back. The rest I can take or leave.

Being able to work within restrictions is a sign of a good writer.

Though this losses meaning when those restrictions are contradictory or constantly changing. Editors themselves are not the problem and infact lead to better stories, its when you've got 12 editors and writers in the same room all pulling in different directions that you have an issue.

I'm interested to see how they're going to explain the existence of Stargirl at all. Her costume and powers (cosmic belt & cosmic rod) are taken from the original Star-Spangled Kid (who, oh yeah, doesn't exist on the Nu-Earth) and from Starman (who, oh yeah, also doesn't exist on the Nu-Earth). And the only reason she ever came across either the costume or the powers in the beginning was because her step-father was Stripesy, the partner of the aforementioned Star-Spangled Kid (who, oh yeah, yet again doesn't exist on the Nu-Earth).

And yet there is Stargirl, pretty much exactly as she appeared on the old New Earth. Cuz yeah, that makes sense.

The only two characters I like in this new League are Hawkman and Green Arrow. My suggestion for DC, why don't you build a better team around these two characters?

I googled it and it was JUST as stupid as I thought it would be.

As someone old enough to have followed most of those characters in their own titles (other than Shade- I hated Steve Ditko's art with a passion back then, ditto for Jack Kirby....what can I say, I was young and stupid), let me just say UGGGGGH.

They'll probably explain it the same way they explained Damien being 10 years old and there having been 4 Robins, one of which has died and come back to life, in the span of 5 years.

Oh wait, they didn't (that I've seen).

One kind of gets the notion that they're just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks, without any clear vision of what they're doing. (Or ignoring whatever their original vision was... assuming it was anything other than "make more money, minions!")

I read the first few issues of some of the books... Action Comics was the clear stand-out for me, mostly because they went for a more hard-edged throwback Superman from the original run back in 1938. He's not all-powerful and busts chops like a dude with superpowers would if he were on a mission to kick some bad-guy *****. I kind of lost the thread of the book while I was in Africa and just didn't feel compelled to pick it back up. And that was a book that I *liked*.

I kind of felt the same way. The only book I liked at the start of the New 52 was Nightwing, but I ended up getting so busy with work I dropped everything I was reading, and when the itch came back I pretty much had to force myself to at least close up the story arcs I had been reading.

On another note, I started reading The Long Halloween earlier today, and couldn't put it down.

I'm still annoyed at what they're doing to my favorite character, Captain Marvel. Drawing out what should be a one-page origin story out over the span of months, changing his personality from an optimist in even the worst times to a foul-mouthed trouble-making jerk, changing his main villain from a skinny scientist with a penchant for building giant robots to a 6' tall muscleman with a lightning-bolt scar and magic vision, and even changing his name to "Shazam" (because "That's what everyone calls him anyway", which means they're deliberately aiming the comic at people who don't care enough about the character to learn his name, as well as tacitly surrendering to Marvel) and giving his costume a hoodie. I don't know how they can even pretend this is the same character.

So while I'm vaguely interested to see what they'll do with JLA, I can't help thinking they'll screw it up.

Kirby was a great storyteller, I just don't like his art style. Same with Carmine Infantino.

Kirby is as close to divinity as a comic creator can come. I didn't like him when I was a kid because I had a misguided hangup on guys who drew "realistically", with Neal Adams being my gold standard. Nowadays I respect his line and his style nearly as much as I respect his unbelievably prolific creativity. But I can understand not digging his style- it's very personal and he took it all the way to its logical conclusion.

The weird thing about Carmine is that while I absolutely hated his superhero stuff my buddy who owns a comic shop turned me on to some of his western comics from way back and I was really impressed. At some point he consciously changed his style, and it's that adopted style I always hated.

One thing about all those old school guys- even ones I disliked like Infantino, Gil Kane, Curt Swan....they flat out knew how to draw, and they knew how to tell a story. I flash back to the comic racks of my youth every time I run across one of those "hot new talents" who use lots of lines, lots of computer shaded coloring, and who have absolutely no idea how to convey a story in a sequential way, no concept of human anatomy, no notion of panel composition.

That last part is important. I see it all the time. There are very few of the new "slick" artists who can convey a story. Stuart Immonen is one. I bought the Flash Gordon graphic novel last year and found it nearly impenetrable to decipher on some pages, because the art had zero storytelling sense. You can't just slap a bunch of lines on the page and make it look cool without doing the fundamental job of telling a story.

I agree with you on some of these guys, but I really did love Gil Kane's work back in the day. The one when Spider-man went to the Savage Land was lovely, and one of the first comics I bought for myself. And I read that Star Hawks paperbook collection at least two dozen times. Loved that robot dog.

Man, just look at everything going on in this picture. Great flow, awesome draftsmanship, terrific storytelling... it has it all. I mean, just look at the expression on Ka-Zar's face, and you can only see half of it!

I remember buying this at a hospital gift shop, but I don't know why we were there. The girl wasn't going to give us our comics because my brother and I didn't have the one penny sales tax. We were dejected and going to put our comics back when my grandmother came in and ponied up the dough.
