Just another invasion
Reminder to self: Tighten up the pirate speak before next Monday. Tide Shifter does not disappoint his audience!
I had fun with it. Wish I got the aura, but random is random.
I'd actually like to see more random events like this, it shakes things up a bit. Even if was just random invasions with no announcement or schedule. Something like the Rikti invasions.
Something else that could be fun too is if a NCSoft employee could man something like a Jack in Irons and randomly go to a zone and cause havoc. Beef up the HP and Damage of the monster to the point that it would take a large amount of people to overcome.

Thanks for the feedback.
I'm most certainly open to suggestions for how we can improve this experience. Keep in mind the following criteria:
I look forward to your suggestions . |
I pulled the trigger. That's right, I did it, in Warburg, with the pistol. - Mista Chains
Everyone know the Tank Archetype get the most drops of all the types. This is because of their "Death Dealing" powers. I call it the front line bonus...but you'll never read this in the wiki - "Rx10"
My only problem with this event is I'm running it on Freedom... Right now... literally.

Either way both are far more interesting than posting on the forums your disdain over a thing you have not even experienced.
For example: On Pinnacle, we all gathered up on the hill by the tram in Talos; 48 heroes strong. The Corolax streamed in from the beach, and we beat them back. The fliers appeared in the skies, and we destroyed them. Mako (Zwil) decided he wanted us off the hill, so he sent in HUGE waves of level 54 bosses, splintering the group and sending most of us to the hospital. He, thusly, took the hill.

"Now, I'm not saying this guy at Microsoft sees gamers as a bunch of rats in a Skinner box. I'm just saying that he illustrates his theory of game design using pictures of rats in a Skinner box."
I honestly can not add more to this than Forbin or Aurora have already other than, Each person's journey is different. Each person has different interests If someone wishes to stand around and spam there powers so be it or if someone like me who wants to enjoy the event and immerse themselves in the game and be a hero.

Having now experienced it on Victory. Yes... same ol' stand and spam.
Something witty and profound
So, seeing as how I'd hate to assume you didn't read my post detailing how we didn't just stand still and spam powers, I'll instead have to surmise you simply disregarded it, or worse, found it contemptible. That said, if you find "standing still and spamming powers" isn't fun, then why are you playing the game? Does "running around and spamming powers" provide enough entertainment for you? If so, that's a mighty minuscule difference. |
Something witty and profound
It sounds like you guys could use more people to help run these events. I'm sure there are many in this community that would gladly volunteer.

Giving players the power to spawn mobs, teleport between zones (at will), be invisible, invincible and untargetable and able to one shot other players sounds like a solid plan to me.
|
I'm sure my villains wouldn't use it to destroy paragon.
So from what I hear Captain Mako's event is just a limited invasion. Is there a badge or can I skip it?
|
If all you care about is badges then yes you can skip it, however it's not "just" another scripted invasion since the spawns are dev-controlled.
|
So what do the do differently? Everything I've seen shows them all in a group getting cut down by all the AoEs like every invasion.
|
If you like invasions I'm glad you had fun. It's not that it's eye gougingly bad I just prefer to do something different.
No offence to the devs. I appreaciate they had to set aside the time out of their schedules to run this or maybe even take personal time. They're good devs. It's just not for me.
Something witty and profound
This would require programming I assume so it's not something that Zwill and Co. could do by themselves, but what if a new invasion mechanic was used where rather than all the players standing say, on the hill in Talos and all the invaders spawned there, spawns happened at points around the zone and then advanced on a given area?
Sort of like the mechanics of the Protect the Henge and the Fir Bolg escape missions in Croatoa. Or the escapee phase of BAF, only targeted to a single point. The goal is to keep the number of mobs that have crossed into a circle, or maybe the block surrounding the hill, below a certain number (but unlike the escape, at least let you deal with them once they get there).
Suggestions:
Super Packs Done Right
Influence Sink: IO Level Mod/Recrafting
Random Merit Rolls: Scale cost by Toon Level

Honestly, the Nemesis non-sensical banter was pretty funny. I mean c'mon, who remembers the Praetorian with Null The Gull taking Tyrant's seat?
And sometimes the banter IS serious.
During the Seedling Invasion some months back on Virtue, we all knew when and where it was starting (Talos), so 20 minutes in advance, me and bunch of other heroes were out waiting and patrolling Talos checking for trouble. About 5 minutes before the actual start, someone found a lone Olympian Guard running around, which put everyone on high alert.
Once it actually got underway, it was pretty awesome. Lag and what not, obviously, but it was still fun. And the banter during THAT event was entirely serious, as was the banter during the Praetorian Surge last year in May (hilariously, I joined -just- before the Surge, so that was my first big community event).
I think having a few laughs between serious business is A-OK.
The Dark Matter Aura is given away randomly to people hanging out in Pocket D after the events. We do not intend for everyone participating to receive one.

This plus the Twitter debacle, I'm just out and out frustrated with this. It wasn't worth the time.

Sup?
Hope you're ready because the terri...er, friendly and helpful Marauder's got some feedback for the community team. While I haven't been to this current event, I've heard about some of the others from the past. The main thing is that it seems like you can handle it a little better if there's more of you guys teamed up to run things rather than just one lone wolf. While obviously there's no way that the big fish could beat the Big Dog, it's nice to run with a pack. See, you can handle things a little better if ya got one guy on point and another handling crowd control. It also gives you the ability to split groups off a bit.
Next major thing is having a good set of objectives. Now, the pups here been yelping back and forth and it seems both sides got decent points. Gotta have some sort of objectives to keep people on their toes. Oh sure, they may have to shoot stuff but it's more interesting if they have to protect some sort of macguffin or blow up some sort of console and THEN shoot something. There needs to be more than just standing in one spot and they can feel a bit more proud over what they've done. At the same time, you gotta be careful not to lean to hard on an impossible mission. Nobody wants to go home with their tail between their legs. Perhaps always have a plan B so that even if an objective can be "failed", players can attack things at another angle and still win. Likewise, it's good to stand tall after victory but every enemy ought to be worth at least a little experience considering lag and disconnects. In fact, lag is good reason to try to split people up a bit.
As far as programmers, man where do I start? For Berry to have all that speed, it seems like he'll never take time out for a small request. Keyes was just as much of a nerd but he'd at least buy you a drink every now and then and chat a little bit. Now if I had my way, I'd...
...erm, a little off topic. Where was I? Oh yea! I know that you can't get some stuff from devs but maybe there's more creative ways of using what you have. Summon objects that can be destroyed or "glowies" that can be clicked. Especially if hidden. Use a special costume based off of player available parts on a character you're in control of. Use some of those "dev hax" powers to mix things up or maybe just use different powers players have access to. I also gotta wonder if it would be good to threate...politely ask the devs for some sort of general event tools like a generic doomsday timer or the ability to make targets show up on the mini map.
Well, that's all I got. I know you guys are trying so keep up the good work. Big Dog out.
