How to create unrealistic expectations of an upcoming product

Joke that it's the 'fix everything' issue and let the hearsay take it seriously

Yeah if Zwillinger shows up with a black eye on the next coffee talk we'll know that the dev team has finally had enough of the forum speculation .

I think most people know it won't fix everything, and most people also know that it isn't possible to fix everything. But they are fixing quite a few things. But "Fix quite a few things!" is not as catchy as "Fix all the things!".

What they didn't realize is that Zwillinger is in heavy with his bookie and he was actually referring to "fixing" all of the arena matches...

Note: "Announcing" as in merely stating the existence of, not as in giving any details about.

Anyone that takes 'fix everything' as completely literal will make a fuss anyways, so trying to put disclaimers on it is a bit silly. Anyone that puts a cat in a microwave to dry it, will put it in there whether or not there's the stupid sticker.

I am yet to hear a single player say that i24 is the issue that is going to fix EVERYTHING! We've all said its looking a huge issue, but thats about it

Its more that they will use it to screech when they find a bug after it launches. I could send you a pm checklist about who i expect to go batnuts over this between their monthly "i quit" posts, and i also know there are posters who glom onto every negative thread because they just love to complain and fuss.

One player's "bug that must be fixed" is another player's "problem with the design or implementation of something."

If you got any two players together and had them write down what they thought should be fixed, you'd never have two lists that had the same things on it, and many things on either list are not considered "bugs" by the Devs, but rather differences in opinion on how a feature/power/thing should function.

I think a more unrealistic expectation is to assume that the Devs even know about all of the "bugs." They might take a look at a list of bug reports, look at their spreadsheets and code, and wonder what the heck the player is talking about, and move on to something that's a known quantity.

I see nothing wrong with how the Issue has been presented thus far. Players blow every Issue out of proportion when it's still in "Here's what we're probably going to do" phase.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

With my post i meant to say that i havent heard a person say its the "fix everything" issue on live. Which is true since i havent

Of course the i24: Fix everything? thread i found to be more about fixing a lot of issues [which they are] and not fixing everything Not a single mention about bases, pvp, supergroups, costume clippings etc

I still don't get how everyone started calling it Fix everything.

Zwil specifically said fix all the things. Which is a very clear reference to a meme known for hyperbole. And we all know how much Zwil likes his memes.

What I find even sillier is if people really want to take what Zwil said literally they seem to be overlooking the fact that stuff, items, doodads, and whatnots are all not things.

They're fixing all the things, which is a very specific subset of the work that goes into an issue.

By hyping up features in your game that you have included, but not really to the extent at which you are saying. I won't mention any specifics, but I know of one particular offline game where one of the Devs does nothing but spouts about how you'll have nothing but massive amounts of exploration and freedom and choices, but how it was really just a bit bigger then the second game in the series and had been dumbed down to extreme levels.

That being said? Some people tend to take what is said and blast it WAY out of proportion. So something as simple as "You'll be able to explore." Can be turned into "YOU CAN EXPLORE ALL THE THINGS!!!" And uh, usually is by some people. Who then spread it around as fact.
