Best Martial Combat toon?
I see a lot of potential for various combinations, but especially for Dark Blast. Dark Blast is a cone-based set with a PBAoE nuke. It has traditionally been a very "ranged" set but the nuke change is probably going to push it to close range more frequently. The -Range debuff combined with an immobilize means enemies won't be able to chase you down after you hit them.
I do wish the -Range was in the knockback power, though. |

In one little corner of the universe, there's nothing more irritating than a misfile...
(Please support the best webcomic about a cosmic universal realignment by impaired angelic interference resulting in identity crisis angst. Or I release the pigmy water thieves.)
My first thought, after reading about Martial Combat, was a Dual Pistols/MC, "gun-fu" guy.
After that, I began thinking of the awesomeness of Fire/MC and will probably not be able to resist the temptation, even though I've already leveled a couple of fire/energy and fire/electric "blappers" and one is my main ("Fireshock"; look me up on Virtue).
I'm always happy about new stuff for blasters, since they have become my favorite AT over the years.
@Joshua.
I'm going Energy/MC because of HADOUKEN.
I mentioned this in another thread, but I really like the idea of using energy's KB to knock all the enemies back, teleport in behind them and throw them all forward, and then teleport next to them and finish them off with Nova.
I think there are really two main ways to go. Either a Blapper with all the melee attacks, in which case you want a primary with no redraw and Aim; or you could do a ranged build and focus on the utility powers in MA to keep your distance.
I really should do something about this signature.

Otherwise...shouldn't that be KAMEHAMEHA?
RaikenX is currently seeking new quotes to add to his signature.
Someone say something funny.
That'll do, pig. That'll do.

Iron Wind km/regen Iron Static elec/reg Psy Entity 50 psy/dev Iron-Assassin 50 nin/nin
Nothing really stands out as conceptually or mechanically synergetic when it comes to primaries to pair with it.
Even Dual Pistols. I'm not a big loather of redraw, frankly I don't mind redraw at all...but without actually holding the pistols while you kick, it kind of ruins any conceptual synergy the combo would have...I mean, the whole reason you're kicking is because your hands are too busy shooting to punch people. But I think I'll wait for a Thrown Weapon blasting set before I delve into this new secondary. I've had the perfect character for it for a long time now and thinking about rerolling (not side-rolling) him from Spines/Dark stalker to thrown/martial blaster. I'm definitely rerolling his alternate dark/thorns dom build into dark/martial dom...that combo is just too perfect a fit. |
Virtue and Freedom
Hi, my name is Northman, and I am an Altoholic. No wait, I'm Lost Nova, no wait, Arc Havoc, no, Dragon Moon, no, Lord Fury......
Yo, Rain is on point! Now i have to make Goku, Scorpion, Sub-zero, ryu, a grammaton cleric and rain? Sheesh! Altitis is kicking in!
I have a test toon fire/mc at lvl 27 and maybe I've missed something but...
On beta Reach for the Limit gives 15% to-hit. If you want to be able to use snipes on the proc you'll still need to also have Tactics. A Kismet unique will not be enough (though it will also be unnecessary so long as you have Tactics). That said, having Tactics on my beta toon, I was able to hit the snipe fairly regularly so it's definitely something to consider.
I am unsure if I will bother taking the snipe on live though (still going with fire/mc). As nice as it can be I am not sure I care enough about it to make the power/slot investment since this character will be a part time blapper due to concept.
My mid's build has him with all but the cone stun and teleport power from MC, soft capped s/l/e and 30ish% incidental range defense. The damage I seem to be dishing out seems sufficient so far and his survival is better than expected with it only getting better as he gets higher and gets more of his planned IO's.

Testing a level 32 Water/MC w/Sorcery...
Very Nasty AoEs:
Geyser > Water Burst > Enflame > Whirlpool > BoS > BoS > BoS
I can even leave off a couple and do some serious damage from mid-air.
Lots of KD potential as well:
Ki, Arcane Bolt, Geyser, Water Burst, Dragon Tail, etc (add some FF procs...)
Now I'm definitely taking Fire Mastery (for Enhanced Bonfire and RotP); just need to seriously slot for Slow or find some way to Immob the mobs.
Guaranteed AoE Minion Killer and a good combo for ST Lt and boss killing.
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

Again might not be perfect but sometimes it is good enough to give someone a decent over view until the update comes out.

Some are smart enough to be able to create custom sets. Granted I am not one of those people. But Mids allows you to modify sets, I think it is in the options setting.

But it still leaves my assessment the same. If you want to rely on Reach for the Limit to get fast snipes you'll NEED tactics (unslotted tactics for blasters gives you 7% to-hit so even with no slotting it's enough with RftL). A kismet will not be enough since it's only 6%. That said, with no to-hit debuff resistance, having excess to-hit from slotting tactics and kismet may not be a bad thing. I am still up in the air if I want the snipe or not though.

I lean towards Water both because it has good AoE, and because I like Dehydrate's boost to my survivability. (Heal over time on top of MC's Absorb over time? Yes Please!)
Also, unlike the OP, having a Sniper is not at all a priority for me, because if I want to really leverage the Sniper changes... I'd just roll a Defender instead. -_-
