Darker Than Black
pretty solid series
Sometimes people think anime is all giant robots, magical girls and high school harem shows (or hyperviolet robot porn according to some in the media). It's simply a medium, animation, and unlike here in the west it didn't get pigeonholed into the "only for kids" slot by the cultural mainstream. In reality it's quite genre and age diverse besides introducing a number of different tropes that we don't see in western animation so it can seem fresh and interesting to first timers. Many go for long cohesive story arcs versus simple episode base stories as well as actual character development and greying the line between good and bad.
No, I haven't seen Darker Than Black yet. So much to do, so little time.

I tried to watch it once but I couldn't see anything happening on the screen.

I've seen it. Good series.
My wife is the anime nut, so when she finds a good series, she'll make me sit and watch it with her. I've yet to be disappointed by one of her picks.
"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.
I watched it on Netflix streaming a year or so ago. I'm not a huge anime fan, but it kept my interest and was, overall, something I enjoyed. Like a lot of anime, I felt it kind of fell apart at the end. But, that said, it was certainly worth my time for the rental.

It's good and sometimes great, but I felt it ended poorly.
I liked the series, despite my growing contept for the way many anime has a superman complex for its main protagonists.
I didn't think the ending was weak, but it was rushed because they tried to tie up many of the earlier episodes in what felt like a series of one-off stories into a meta-story. There was just too much ground to cover and they I'm not sure if those earlier episodes were written with the ending in mind, otherwise, they should have sprinkled in clues, or placed certain characters in the background etc... throughout.
I watched the first season on Netflix last year. I rather enjoyed it. I think I may now have to see if the second season is there.
I like anime in general. What I most like about anime is getting to watch an interesting story. Take Gunslinger Girl for example. It has some action, but it's the overall story that interests me. The interaction of the characters. Same was true for El Cazador de la Bruja that I just finished the other day, and even Elfen Leid. There may be super-powered characters in the stories, but it's the story that they tell that I like. I just cannot find such stories in more 'western' work.
I watched the first season, it was pretty good. Still waiting on the second season though.

I am digging it. I don't know why it has taken me so long to get into anime shows. Most are really good. |
I think it's one of *many* anime series sitting in my Netflix queue. I believe I watched an episode or three of it quite awhile back. Hard to say. Right now I'm focused on El Cazador de la Bruja (or something like that).

As for Darker than Black, I did some research. Season 2 is apparently called Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor, and it is not yet on Netflix on either DVD or streaming.
I'm sort of meh with El Cazador de la Bruja. I think I would find the story about the other bounty hunter with the little girl more interesting that the one about the two main characters.

FUNimation has posted the first two seasons of Darker than Black on Youtube.
This is good to know. However, there is a 3-4 'episode' OVA that was produced and aired after season 2 was aired that details the events between season one and season two. My research suggests that unless FUNimation has that posted on Youtube as well, and if you do not watch the OVA after season one, and you just jump into season two, you will be terribly confused.

Edit: I did find the OVA's up for stream, but they're on Funimation's Elite member only stream. I 'think' they have a trial period for the Elite membership, so you could possibly hit that up and watch them before you start season 2.
Actually the OVA's are up on Youtube....look under Darker Than Black Gaiden as that is what they are also known...there are 4 epsiodes in total...
