What are some critters you think some NPC enemy groups need?
I have "giant robot" beat. I was thinking about a Nemesis task force idea during the Nemesis invasion events. The culmination of the task force would have you going to a distant island and fighting through the Nemesis army to a large structure on the ground being assembled by Nemesis. And when you reach it you have to go into it and try to shut down its computers. But when you do, you discover that you have only gotten the secondary cores, and the primary is still intact.
And then the entire structure lifts up off the ground like a giant steampunk Arachnos Flier with the team in it in a cutscene, and then the game respawns the Nemesis assault carrier just offshore of Peregrine Island and begins dropping Nemesis armies onto PI while the team tries to bring down the carrier and defeat the spawned enemies, calling for help from whatever players were out there. Sort of like a combination Synapse (spawning Babbage in Skyway), LGTF (which triggers a Rikti invasion event), Mothership raid (but a bit smaller), and an extra heaping scoop of kick-***. And the invasions would scale based on the number of players that decided to help, just like the Nemesis invasion event. I'd write this task force for free if I could. |
Also, now that we have quadroped forms avalable in game we could use:
Tsoo could have Guardian Lions (also known to many as Foo Dogs). Special bosses at the beginning of maps defending the entrance, or at the end defending the leader.
Crey cyber (or robotic) attack dogs.
Actually include the Nemesis Warhorses to the ranks.
The occasional Freakshow with their junkyard (possibly cybered) dogs. Heck, give the Freakshow a revamp and make them scary psychopaths again. One of my Freakshow characters has in his bio " Do you know why Freakshow embrace the whole 'leet-speak' thing, and seem to act goofy? Sure, some of us buy into it, but they're idiots and front-line cannon fodder. The truth is simple, It's because you suckers'll always underestimate us because of it..." Remind us of this. (love the Pyro Tank mentioned above also, especially with the kamikaze killswitch)
Maybe even include mounted warrior bosses at some point (Cimerorans, for example).
"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.
Longbow: Add some power armor Lts & bosses and some Beam Rifle Lts.
Clockwork Freaks; Freaks who've grafted Clockwork parts to themselves, and who occasionally have the Clockwork parts act independently. "I can't stop zapping things - this is SO COOL!"
Titan Freaks; Hugely oversized, heavily armed Tank Freak variants.
HoloFreaks; Freak bosses with implanted special effects equipment, they have Illusion Control powers.
The Vahzilok need a GM; some huge Abomination with grafted on weapons and spare limbs sticking out here and there.
Rularruu needs Intrusions; the sky turns colors, and holes open in the air out of which extend Lusca-sized tentacles covered in eyes and mouths that attack anything nearby. This should be an occasional event near Portal Corp.
Vanguard needs Vanguard Destroyers; huge flying vessels reverse engineered from Rikti Dropships, they show up at the tail end of various invasion events to chase the enemy off.
Zombies need Zombie Heroes; undead heroes that have random powersets, like the Flawed Clone from the villainside Ajax arc.

*ahem*
I think the Vanguard needs, for outdoor missions, some manner of tank. I know, they have the HVAS, and it's a good unit to have, but we see Vanguard tanks trundling through the war zone and never actually stopping to do anything productive. I say, they need a retrofit with the latest in hovertech, allowing them to be used as mobile units that can strafe and jump, as well as turn on a dime. Of course, they would only show up in outdoor missions, like Defend the Base (1 AND 2), and maybe as a support fire unit during the Investigate Nemesis Base mission.
Hell, they could be optional artillery support in an SSA or something.
Really, almost every paramilitary group should have some manner of tank. It revolutionized the battlefield, after all.
Ooh! Also - Council/5th Column Saboteurs. They set mines primarily, and use SMGs as their secondary Self Defense weapon. If you want to be REALLY nasty, you could also do a Malta Sapminer - A guy with a Sap Pistol (less effective than the rifle model), but his main weapon are mines that do the AoE sap effect, as well as standard HE mines and Incendiary mines.
I'd never use a nuke in a superhero universe. You nuke a city, you kill 1.5 million people minus one. The last guy not only gets superpowers from the explosion, but ones that let him survive a nuke...and wow, is he torqued off

PPD Mastermind
Personally, I've never understood why Hellions never get fire demons in their ranks, or at least Damned who have become physically corrupted by their continued use of demonic powers. The addition of the Girlfriends from Hell was nice, though.
With the addition of Beast Mastery, some Carny Lion Tamers would be nice, and would help break up the currently very annoying two boss types. Splice it a bit with Demon Summoning to give them fiery whips for extra awesome.
Also. Goldbrickers. King Midas. I want to fight him. That is all.
The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)
Virtue Forever.
My votes are
Outcasts - harder bosses with more advanced Fire, ice and stone powers. Imps and gremlins would be good
Skuls - Necromancers and dark controllers
Clockwork - Mini gremlins and 2 of the big guys that combine like zeus titans
Carnies - Strongmen with TW and animal tamers
Malta - more heroes for hire and robots
Council - Just do SOMETHING with them!
Warriors - Animated swords and spears, more enchanted weaponry giving them powers
Family - Maybe a stalker or some guys with bigger guns
Prisoners - Have them spreading out a bit more (ie out of Brickstone) and add a few supers to their mix
Rockshock (Druid Tanker), Medicat (Combat Medic), Dwarf From the North (Ice Mage), Rocket Gal (Energy Blaster), Graveborn (Undead Mastermind), Streeker (Punching Speedster), Op. Sidewinder (Recluse's pet Spider)
i would prefer carnies to have tigers instead of lions.
and i would love to give tsoo guardian lions if they didnt have the same lion heads, but more asian inspired dragon-lion heads.
im all for animals being given to more enemy groups, but not the same dang animals. gah.
and im for ACTUAL SPIDERS with the spider rig. im glad they whipped it out again for MoT's crew, but giant black widows would be lovely and are long overdue. perhaps in eden, or croatoa, or on one of nerva's islands.
huntsman needs the two birdie attacks, and perhaps a wolf or two in his pack, but maybe brown wolves, or coyotes.
the coralax DO need some virtea as was mentioned. pleeaasssee with water blast attacksssss, maybe some ice and forcefield bubbles
lots of good suggestions in here. mayhaps a dev would actually take some notes.
Praetorian mobs should have Freakshow style revives to make them more challenging.

City of Heroes comics and artwork
Randomly, as I was playing through the Vincent Ross arc with a friend, I couldn't help but think that the Midnight Squad really needs non-living armor bosses. Maybe they could use staff melee combined with something else like the Dream Doctor.

Tsoo tea house girls that do...uh, what other powers are new-ish and basically unrepresented? Time Control (oh man combined with Ink Men kinetics...owch, my speed!)

Well, how about that!
My own ideas -
Carnies: Lion tamers. Whip attacks like the Demons whip, only colored purple and doing psi damage, and the Beast Mastery lion pets.
Nemesis: Cavalry lieutenants. THAT STEAM HORSE NEEDS TO BE IN THE GAME.
Council/Fifth Column and Malta: Give 'em some Snipers. Actual Snipers, like the Nemesis and Crey ones - like, as a second version of the Marksman enemies for the Council and Fifth, and some new guys in ghillie suits for Malta. Also, make Crey snipers appear more.
Midnight Squad (Primal Earth non-zombie version): Red lightning. It'd make perfect sense for some Midnighters to be of Mu ancestry, and a cool bit of flavor.
Devouring Earth: Why do none of the existing mobs use Plant Control powers? I propose "Spore pods" - stationary objects, similar to turrets, that spam Creepers at anything nearby.

Freakshow Heavy Gunner - Tank with Miniguns for arms. I mean, why haven't the Freaks thought of this yet?!
Crey Prototype - This could either be a fancy looking Tank, or a Scientist with a fancy gun, where his attacks have a chance to do A LOT of damage, or completely backfire.
Hellion Firebomber - Boss-level non-magic Hellion that basically uses the Molotovs.
Council/5th Column Mortar - A special enemy that could be mission-specific (Outdoors) that can hit you at any range, provided you're in an unobstructed field of vision.
Vahzilok Zombie Tank - A boss-level zombie that's just really big. And explodes on death.
Malta Controller - Like a Sapper, except applies a liberal dose of Slow DeBuffs, because we all hate those. Likely from a Cryo Gun.
Rikti Guard - Personal guards of the Lord of War, sometimes they are sent out personally to fight his foes. They could use TW or Staff, or some other powerset that makes sense, but I imagine them being specialized for melee, or ranged with bubble support
Rikti Heavy Drone - Like the Drones, except bigger and nastier with more guns. Like a Heavy Assault Suit if it didn't have a pilot.
Warrior Champion - Boss-level Warrior clad in armour, uses a variety of 'shouts' as buffs for himself and his allies.
Circle of Thorns Summoner - One of the Portals on legs, basically.
Vahzilok Butcher - He doesn't care for surgery, he just likes chopping things. Uses a big meat cleaver.
Tsoo Ancestor Spirit - I know, they have these. But perhaps we could have boss-level versions that look like the Ancestral Wardens, except ghost-y.
Devouring Earth Dryad - A female lieutenant/boss class that uses Plant Control/Nature Affinity.
Hydra Evolver - Uses Bio Armor. That's about it. Could become gradually more resistant to attacks, meaning quick, decisive blows are in order, and heavy AoE's only.
Re-purposed War Walker/WarWorks - For Vanguard/5th/Council/Crey/Malta/Longbow. Is what it says it is, but perhaps with some new additions and a new paint job.
Rularuu Avatar - An Avatar of one of the aspects of Rularuu. Either EB or Boss class.
PPD Anti-Metahuman Division (AMD) - Like SWAT, only with state-of-the-art gear (A bit like Malta). Basically so we can have non-Kheldians at levels 40+. Perhaps throw in some Hard Suits here as well.
Sky Raider Demolitions - Uses a variety of grenades and placed mines. Has a grenade launcher.
Gold/Platinum/Impervium/Adamantium/Whatever tough metal Strongman - Boss-level Strongman. Fancier helmet and mallet. That's about it.
I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...
How is that relevant?
Anyway, something that IS relevant, I mentioned in one of my posts about having the Family have Button Man Sluggers in their ranks. I would also like to add Button Man Slicers as well.
Also, why can't we have Devouring Earth enemies that use Plant Control powers?
to TO THE END!
