Merging the...

*** SPOILERS ***

No, not the servers... War Witches!

So, it seems as if at least some of the Praetorian versions of some folks are (litterally) being subsumed by Primals. Vanessa de Vore has merged with Desdemona and now there is only one War Witch due to her Merger with Sorceress Serene. Is there a trend here? If you want to look more broadly at this, in a way, Emperor Cole absorbed Praetorian Recluse as well (as evidenced by his mention of Tartarus in the Magi Trial).

Discuss.

Sorceress Serene and War Witch didn't merge, Primal War Witch stepped in at the last moment of the ritual and stole Sorceress Serene's body. The spirit of Sorceress Serene is still running around.

Preanessa and Des are merged through the mask in the same way Primal Vanessa is merged with her great great grandmother Giovanni. If I remember that lore correctly.

Anyway does anyone know what the best part of two War Witches merging is?
They might accidently kiss.

Cole was also the embodiment of Zeus, which is why he uses the power Zeus' Lightning in the same trial. Does that mean he absorbed Statesman? No. He was simply Praetoria's incarnation of Zeus and Hades while Primal had two separate incarnations for those deities.

So, now War Witch is not a spirit anymore and lives in Sorceress Serene's body?
Where did this happened?
Will WW get her own TF finally?
Will WW model be updated with a non transparent Sorceress Serene model?
Need answers!

And that was caused by Cole's killing of Praetorian Recluse at the Well of the Furies I do believe.

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

Yep.

I am really surprised they "forgot" to make the spectral War Witch in Croatoa solid again, due to it being the spectral version of her, from Croatoa, that stepped into the ceremony to take the body from Serene.

I'm more surprised that in War Witch's cameo in Belladonna Vetranno's arc she's transparent, since unlike Croatoa it takes place chronologically after Night Ward.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

That's part of the level = time bit, I believe. THAT version of her hasn't changed.

Well, that's part of i23, right? So if they are going to have it reflect in the game world, they are going to wait at least an issue to have people a chance to learn the surprise.

Which I didn't know until this thread

It's The Magician's arc in Night Ward.

Indeed. Croatoa War Witch comes before Night Ward War Witch/Serene's Body. The arc includes discussion of her Croatoa spirit form (though you talk to her Pocket D form... since it's a co-op arc and Villains can't go to Croatoa).

The Belladonna Vertano arc should really have the Serene War Witch, though...

Yes, but that doesn't fall in line with the idea of Praetorians being subsumed by their Primal counterpart or vice versa.

Wait... I don't recall seeing War Witch in the Belladonna arc. Where was she?

Just for full disclosure, I've never run the new Belladonna Vertano arc, so I was just basing my comment off the previous indication that War Witch appeared in it.

Actually come to think of it I don't remember seeing her either.

Wait, does this mean that the whole Apex/WW pairing can be canon again?

Is Croatoa same or higher level than Night Ward?
I'm pretty sure it is close.

Anyway, they have the technology to change contacts based on what you have completed. They did so in Nova Praetoria with Cleopatra and in Atlas with Mathew Habashy's wife.

Why haven't they at least done that with War Witch? /shrug

This has been answered in relation of Penelope Yin and Faultline - it requires redoing the entire Zone from what I understand.

"redoing the entire zone"!!!???

Definitely not, at least not if common sense applies.

They make NPCs disappear all the time, especially if you count the ones we fight. They add new NPCs all the time.
All they need to do is code War Witch in Croatoa to check for a player's specific souvenir(for her initial load in) and have it either "not load" her or "make her vanish" and then have the same code make an alternate solid War Witch pop in right next to her.

OR, maybe War Witch has a power that makes her semi-transparent. They could just "toggle it off" so that she is like the one in Pocket D.

It seems super simple to me.

Oh hold on, I'm sorry. War Witch shows up at the end of Dream Doctor's arc, which, while it takes place after Night Ward, was added before it, so I understand why she's transparent in it. I got confused.

Adding a new NPC isn't hard. Name one case of an NPC being removed or altered in a zone prior to Going Rogue.

Doesn't matter because the code now exists. An NPC is not tied to an entire zone, and even if it is they would never need to "rewrite the entire zone" just to add code to remove the NPC under certain circumstances.

....unless the code for zones is such a mess that NPCs are tied to the zone and they can't search for the proper place to put such a piece of code in all that mess.
Ok, that seems believable.

As I understand it -- and my search-fu has failed me -- the code that lets contacts/NPCs appear and disappear based on the player's perspective has to be baked into the base level code for the zone. That's why it only happens in new (Praetoria) or completely revamped (Atlas, Mercy) zones. Adding the tech to Croatoa would mean completely recreating the zone using the phasing technology, even if nothing else changed. That is to say, it's not bloody likely.
