Mapserver error in Emperor Cole's Personal Story

I keep getting a mapserver error everytime i play the Emperor Cole's Personal Story arc right at the end when fighting Arachnos.

Every time I use one of the huge AOE powers it causes a mapserver. These get worse and longer the more you use the power until i get one so long that it logs me back to the login screen. Its almost like the AOE damage is so great that it takes the server a few seconds to figure out what you did/what you have killed.

I had to complete the mission on my 3rd attempt by just using the single target attacks which took a long time.

A sent a bug report anyways...

Yup, had to do the same.

I confirm the problem - mapserving on the big battle. Not sure about cause though. I'll try single-target attacks.

Same bug, and I did solve it by using the single target attacks...sort of. It still started to lag towards the end of the battle. I wonder if there's an internal counter to decide when to unleash certain dialogue and it has issues with higher numbers of kills, since the second time I mapserved it happened just after hitting two dialogue boxes at once which seemed to confuse the game.

I'll add my experience as well. I got a mapserver everytime one of the two AOEs was used. I didn't actually lose the mission or get kicked, but when I got control back, everything was lying dead, woulda been neat to actually see the animations. This story would be very fun minus the bug.

This has also happened to me. However, I have managed to use the aoe's and beat the mission. The only times I did crash were when I killed too many enemies in a short amount of time (the targeted AoE crashed me on the second use right after it recharged, the nuke crashed if I defeated too many at once). Also, I used the aoe's sparingly, probably the reason why I avoided crashing for a fourth time.

same problem here- I'm going to flatline my graphics settings tonight and see if that helps.

I'd be very surprised if it did. This is a server-side issue, where it's doing too many calculations per AoE attack.

It's an extreme example of what was causing the lag on the 3rd mission of the ITF for the first year or so of its existence. (IIRC, that was due to too many shield using NPCs on the map, and the server had to calculate whether each enemy was within range of the AoE shield buffs.)

well poo!

I'd really rather not have to eye-beam my way through those 50,000,000 underlings.

I set my difficulty for x1, pulled one group at a time, and cycled the eye beam and punch attacks until about half of them were dead, then used the hand clap or lightning on the rest (while FAR away from any other groups).

I was afraid I'd nuked the mapserver when I tried to hand clap about 12 or so dudes at once one time, but it luckily came back after about 10 seconds of freezing.

Of course, there's the alternate method of completion: wait until it gets fixed in a patch.

I'm glad to know it's not just me.

I really hope it's fix soon.

I really dont want to just use the single attacks.Where's the fun in that?

Got the LOST CONNECTION TO MAPSERVER error during my attempt on Live tonight, too.

Still managed to get through the mission using AoE attacks without crashing, but each time had to wait longer for the server to recover. Not sure if I didn't disconnect because I didn't touch my keyboard or mouse until it caught up, if it was because it was the slowest time on the server, or because of my big, beefy comp.

Whatever the reason, I don't think I'll try my luck again until a patch note says that the mapserver error on Emperor Cole's Personal Story has been fixed.

Got mapserved while using energy punch while in the middle of Ghost Widow's Shadowfall with all of the other Arachnos leaders. So it's an insanely delicate line to walk. To make things worse, smaller mission settings don't help at all, since the spawns are fixed.

They really need to fix this. Maybe just change the AoEs to smaller numbers or something. Anything. Love to actually finish the blasted mission.

Took me three attempts to finish this mission. Finally did it by discovering this thread and following the advice. I also Bugged it in game. Towards the end when I just had LR, Mako and Wretch the lag was insane about 5 secs for them to show as defeated in the chat log (after their face-planting animation)and for my powers to cycle back up.

The weird thing about this mission is that the lag gets progressively worse as you defeat enemies, whether or not you're using the AoEs. I could use the AoEs on the first few groups of enemies with zero lag, but by about the point where I was attacking the second Arachnos flyer the game would start to have the Mapserver problem. When I finally beat the mission using only single-target attacks, even those were causing brief by noticeable lag spikes every time I hit an enemy.

When will this be fixed?
I'd like to fight the arachnos armie.

I only get to beat a mob and one of the flyers, both if i'm lucky.

it's been almost 2 months.why is'nt the mission fixed yet?

It look like the mapserver mostly happen when I attack the right Aracnos Flyer.

I see the same thing Kosh_Naranek does, in that it gets progressively worse as the fight goes on. I am fortunate that my connection and computer are fast enough that I don't actually get disconnected and am able to finish the mission, but I was very surprised to find that the issue had not been resolved yet.

this issue i think has been going on since i23 was still in beta, until they provide a fix (which they havent) i doubt you will be able to use any aoes without mapserving

Ran into this as well. I did finally manage to finish the mish. You might try this:

1) Turn GFX, especially particles and physics way down.

2) DON'T charge into the middle of the mob- use the eyebeams to pull, then deal with smaller groups. You can use the AOEs in small doses that way.

3)In between groups, turn away, spam /sync

It seems as if serverside is just NOT keeping up with the dataflow in this mish for some reason. I also completed it on a Sunday morning, when server loading was low overall.

Things to remember:
-Common sense ain't;
-Overkill is the only kill;
-If someone asks if you're a god, run away.

Hate this bug. The whole arc, Belladona's and Coles personal, are great, really neat and fun. And then..this utter expletive.
It may be petty and unhelpful, but I still have a unreplied to email from support, asking me to run some connection software. Honestly, if they seriously cant work out that have 390439043 dudes on the screen, and using massive aoe, is causing the crash (after it was reported in BETA)..I just can not be bothered even making an effort.

Geez relieved it's not just my pc! I ran/attempted to run this 6 times before auto completing it. Changed my difficulty settings, graphics, tried single target pulling tactics, fought facing away from the giant group, etc...bummed it's bugged but feeling better about my pc again. Hopefully it's fixed soon, would love to be able to play through it eventually.

This bug is highly annoying and we shouldn't have to jump through hoops to beat this mission. That said, I beat this mission in a very short period of time earlier tonight.

You CAN use Zeus's Lightning against large groups. You just have to be using Cole's Fly power, which seems to be a combo of Fly and Afterburner without the self-targeting restriction. Fly in, turn around, let loose, and then as soon as you're no longer rooted by the animation haul butt as far away as you can. /sync -ing after each time seems to help and help a lot (thanks erall). I think I beat the post-cutscene part of the mission in under 2 minutes that way; I'm going to time myself next time and see what happens. Regardless of that, they still need to fix this, as tonight was my first time trying the mission and I had assumed my crappy internet connection was at fault.

Did you get the badge for the auto complete? For some reason, I was/am thinking that you couldnt auto those personal ones, like just about every other badge mission.

Yes, you get the badge if you auto complete it. I've done so on 2 characters thus far (1 was the first run, testing out the error. the other didn't even attempt the mission). My 3rd incarnate, I actually took the LONG SLOW SLOG of doing it with just the ST attacks.

Seriously, fix this mission devs. Cut the mobs in half and nix the ambushes. Even if that's not the cause of the mapserving it'll at LEAST speed up doing this mission. it's really awesome, but this bug leaves it dead in the water.
