Official Death of Level Pacting

Yes, I know that the level pacting has been disabled since I20 hit live. However, when it was taken away, we were told it was to re-evaluate and look at the Level Pact system.

This week I noticed the shared XP item in the paragon market. This is the official death knell of the old Level Pact. I am sad to see it die out. It gave people like me who work odd hours a way to team with static teams, and to keep up progression with friends. Now we have no recourse but to BUY with real money a similar but weaker version of this same, previously free service.

Bad Form...

Bring back Level Pacting, yes I know it means no one will buy your "shared XP" tokens but no one is going to do that anyhow, as frankly, it was asinine to charge for something you previously gave away.

Thanks

It's shared bonus XP. Nothing like the Level Pacts. All the power does is give you a temporary 50% boost to your XP gain and a single-use power you can use on someone else to give them a temporary 50% XP boost as well.

As stated above, it's something completely different than a level pact.

So ... when will Level Pacts return? My wife and I do a lot of duoing in the game, and LPs made this a lot more fun (we could solo while the other was away, one of us could opportunistically hunt, etc., without worrying about getting out of sync with leveling).

We still have a number of toons from when LP was put in, and they function just fine. It's just the ones before (and since) that it's a problem with.

I understand there are some difficulties with it being abused, but surely there are some ways it could be restored on a restricted fashion. Though I'd also like to see it available at any level -- I'd be willing to have my lvl 20 drop to lvl 18 to get pacted with someone at that level.

We'd really like to get level pacts working, but they'll take some time to work out right, and we don't have an ETA for it at the moment. Hopefully soon! I can understand your desire to have them back. We know they were really popular.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.

All right, so it's NOT the "official death of level pacting."

I am getting pretty tired of thread titles that baldly assert something to be true but turn out to be entirely opinion, or even just a question.

With sidekicking, what exactly is the problem with being a few levels off?

Not that I hope the LP doesn't return, just curious as to why it matters.

the gap can be more than a few levels, for instance. And it's more like an aid to help friends. Like if they were still around I'd probably pact with a buddy of mine that only gets to hop on maybe once a week or so, whereas I'm on about every night or every other night, so it'd be less work for him to get to the same level and participate in say, Taskforces and SSAs, since they're all min. level locked, and eventually Incarnate stuff when he hits 50.

Well in my case; I like slowing myself down for Pratoria and doing a bit of self-levelling by pacting off my other accounts so my main account's alts can get past 1-20. Sometimes I just like to have the option to pair off a couple of alts so I can level one or the other and both get the love even if it's only half as much.

For now though; I'm PLing some copy alts to do it the hard way

Being able to run the same content, being able to keep someone else "caught up" who may not be able to play as much, keeping a "theme team" together so everyone has the same powers because they're at the same level, slowing down XP gain without turning it off entirely... SKing doesn't do that.

If anything, these boosts are there to assist existing pacts that for whatever reason haven't fully lvl'd to 50 (I have two such pacts). Honestly, you won't see me getting one of these things though due to finances.

Welcome to the game and the forums.

A really good source of info for new players is www.paragonwiki.com - and you should also keep an eye on th offical CoH Facebook, Twitter and Google+ feeds for more information on the game and upcoming features and events.

Total GG nonsequitur. Your post had nothing to do with the thread, nor Sailboat's post (Sailboat's been around a while, yanno).

That's ironic. Your posts results from completely misunderstanding her post.

That's funny, because everyone else also gets annoyed by being misled. How odd that anyone would think it has something to do with nerds!

Hmm, I took them as meaning that nerdrage was a cause of people making the threads with misleading titles!
Haha, I could be wrong though!

No, that's correct. Getting annoyed about something and going off half-cocked with a post of imagined slap-in-the-face. Classic nerdrage.

Not sure if relevant, but I use level pacting for interesting theme effects with the magic of having two accounts.

I have a Shield/Energy tanker pacted with an Eng/Eng blaster. Same character and armor, one is Mark I version, defense mode, the other is Mark II, offense.

Another is a wizard who controls light and dark powers but not at the same time.

W/o level pacting I can't make more cool alts like these.

P.S. though they are level 41. I'd so reroll the tank/blaster combo to make the tank Eng/Eng if/when level pacting comes back.

Have to agree Brand.. I tried level pact when it first arrived. I had a friend that I teamed with a lot and figured that way would could always stay the same level even though there were times when I was on and he wasn't and visa versa. Unfortunately then he had pc problems and for more than a month I was the only one playing. This resulted in me leveling MUCH slower than other players since half my XP was going to him. Another issue .. Both of use were badgers I got to a point where I stopped playing the character at all because I felt guilty about making it more difficult for him to earn certain badges. We finally just agreed to end the pact and move on.

Today I can take a 49 level and team with a group of 10 levels and still make the same xp I'd get teaming with a group of 49 or 50s. The days of spending 20-30 minutes trying to match up a high level character with a lower level so EVERYONE gets XP are long gone .. so exactly why do we need leveling pacts?

...because the pacts allow you to acrue XP for someone while they're offline? Nothing else in the game does that. They're not for equalizing XP while you're actively playing, they're for letting someone not have to play catch up.

To be honest, I've always felt level pacts were a cheat. It's the ultimate antithesis of "no risk, no reward." You could create a character at level 1, never play the game again and freeload for 50 levels. And people complain about AE babies...

For the most part Super SK and Patrol XP resolve the problem of friends who can't play as frequently: you level like crazy under those conditions. The only real stumbling block is that some content (TFs, etc.), are gated by level.

That's the problem that should be addressed.

One solution would be to remove most of those limits. That would make a lot of people happier, not just those who use level pacts.

Another solution would be to give characters the ability to designate one permanent partner (a better term would be sidekicks, but that's already used). A partner would always be able to play on any team the other could play on (unless forbidden by incarnate status or subscription status, perhaps). That means if your partner is level 50 and you're level 42, you'd both be able to participate in a Statesman TF.

Yes, you might be useless baggage on that Statesman TF. But even in a level pact, if you really don't have any time to play your character, you're probably not going to have very good enhancements, or a very good handle on what your powers do. So characters who are automatically advanced by level pacting are less likely to contribute much anyway.

Level pacts were one of the best features in CoX, and I know that them being gone is part of why my spouse is gone. It's also why I'm less likely to be a VIP, now.

We loved being able to have our characters the same level. Yes, with SK'ing, at times it's more psychological, but it was still real.
