Vanity Travel powers need to remember toggles
Lucky666 -
When you say "Dragon's Tail" are you referring to the leg sweep animation? It appears when you have your "Staff out"? Meaning you have the Staff Fighting powerset, and it only happens when you have recently clicked a power and the staff still appears in your character's hands? And then Mystic Fortune is cast on you by another player? If so - PM me would you? And let me know where you saw this - on a Live server, or Beta... I would appreciate it! Arbiter Warrant |
Its funny at beginning, quite annoying after a while.
While we on it... Would be better if toogles auto activate without casting an animation. We would avoid the silly chest beating from fighting pool Tough among other things.
Just let ur characters alone while we activate toogles, on the run. No annoying stop for activation while moving.
Thanks for reading.

They say this is the case but then how come when my Staff is out and I get mystic fortune cast of me I do a dragons tail. Did they animate staff so it could do dragons tail and if so why? What's the real deal I wonder?

If this is the animation bug I think it is (Player receiving a Fortune and doing the Dragon Tail Animation), I've noticed it randomly on Characters of varying Powersets and ATs. I've been seeing this on the Live Servers for a good month or more, I believe. It's annoying, but not game-breaking.

Same here. And as I recall, last I checked it was happening on my WP tanker when he activated one of his toggles as well. I thought there was discussion about this bug in beta at some point, so I just assumed it was known and would be addressed in time.

If so, it uses the same "looking around" animation that is supposed to be played when you receive a Fortune. So maybe the bug is connected to that.

It's actually probably safe to say that everyone would prefer it to work this way.
Doesn't mean it's going to happen. No one really likes travel suppression either yet we've had it in this game for years. It's a game balance mechanic. The Devs could have easily made this thing work in a way that would have allowed toggles to automatically reactivate after shutting off the travel power yet they DIDN'T make it work like that. The reason for that almost couldn't be more obvious to me. *shrugs* |
Can I just say I think you're *way* off base? I don't agree it's a balance mechanic for one simple reason:
Kheldians.
I mean, they're *designed* to swap forms - which, in a sense, is related to the whole "lock pose in vanity travel power" bit. And we've recently had a power altered to carry over into forms - that at the same time lost a "form," Light form.
I'm about 87% sure that it's a mechanical issue or coding issue, *not* a balance issue.

This happened to me last night on live servers, Justice, in the middle of some mission that I can't recall. It did seem to happen in correlation with Mystic Fortune... but only happened once. I was on my Kin/Arch defender.

Basically though I've been playing my staff a lot lately cause it's fun and I noticed it all the time when the staff is out dragons tail when hit with mystic fortune, no staff no dragons tail also no mystic fortune animation just the graphics effect plays. The only other toon I've been playing also is my ill/dark and he never plays any animation when hit with mystic fortune just the graphics go off. It's a female avatar that is my staff fighter if that matters I have no idea. It's on the live servers.
It probably wouldn't be impossible to do, but it likely would not be absolutely trivial either.
The game saves an overall "image" of the state of the character record as you're logging off. As far as we know it can only currently do this as a final "clean-up" activity while logging off. There's probably no current way to log the state of the toggles -while- you're actively playing. The data structure maintaining that info may only exist in the character record stored on disk. So they'd have to come up with a way to keep track of that info dynamically as you're playing. This would add to the overall info they'd need to maintain in memory about your character while it's being played which is something that might not be as easy as it would seem. You'd instantly run into extra server bandwidth issues if nothing else. Bottomline we should probably assume that if something like this was easy to do they probably would have already considered it. |
I hesitate to guess how easy it would be, but the logoff change does indicate it's possible.
More likely that the team would make newer, more expensive travel powers that do this and possibly offer (paid) upgrades for the existing ones. |
If I'm not too mistaken about how the mechanics work, they could add in a new disallowed/disable mode and have it disable clicks, and suppress toggles. But that, while "easy" would be a lot of work actually adding in the flag(s).
Main issue is if a how attached to mez only is the toggle suppression tech.

There are incremental checkpoints as well (the cause of 'rollback' of recent events when a server crashes), but it's the final commit that removes the character from the game server's active state. Things like which powers were toggled on, as well their recharge state were lost at that point, because the database didn't contain that information.
I kind of suspect that the motivation behind the change may have partially been to fix the "exploit" of logging off for 15 minutes to recharge powers that have a >15min fixed recharge. That's just a guess -- I haven't tested to see if they are now saving power recharge data though.
I hesitate to guess how easy it would be, but the logoff change does indicate it's possible.

I'm not saying it's impossible or won't happen, just that it would require a fairly significant investment of programmer time.
PM sent.

I think the key to the solution IMHO is to supress toggles and not turn them off.

Make this apply to any other "Power Suppression" related event and I'll be happy. Speaking specifically about Vanity Travel Powers, this factor is actually making me only use them on toons that I rarely take toggle powers on (which is a rarity in and of itself). It honestly makes the decision to purchase one on the market very difficult in terms of cost vs functionality.
1) Accepting a Magic Fortune causes every one of my characters, and all of the characters of my friends that I team with, to do the Martial Arts Powerset Dragon's Tail animation every single time. Always. We thought that it was an intentional change.
2) It would be a very nice change if the store Travel Powers (Ninja Run, Beast Run, Rocket Board, Magic Carpet) simply suppressed your toggles instead of turning them off. It's not a big deal on my Blasters, but I just can't stand using the store Travel Powers on my Tanks. I kept forgetting to turn all of my toggles back on.

Ninja Run and Beast Run don't do anything to your toggles. You can run them and all your toggles for as long as you like (or as long as you have enough endurance, if it comes to that).

Ninja Run only turns off Combat Jumping, if I remember correctly.
Doesn't change the fact that Rocket Board only suppressing toggles, instead of shutting them off completely, would be a welcome change.
Exactly. I have no problem with the vanity travel powers suppressing powers, I just detest toggling all my shields, etc. back on again after flying across town on a magic carpet.
