More Reward Merits or a Reward Table for defeating Giant Monsters
In general I don't have any issue with this.
I mean, they did revamp Adamaster(sp?)'s rewards. But they also revamped how he was spawned.
The only quirk I would see is the Paladin in KR. While he's been "fixed" many times, there still manages to be a couple of his floating around. 3 Paladins = 30 merits in a few minutes. It's an extreme end of the spectrum type thing, but it could be an issue.
Either way,

Yeah the Paladin spawning would definitely need to be fixed. You'd probably need a dedicated league to fight all 3 of them at once though.

I wish GM hunting was more popular. It's hard to get a team for the more obscure ones like Jurrasik,Sally, and Deathsurge
Heck,I'd settle for a small increase of merits.
Don't need a team at all to actually beat Sally. Just would want to get one if you want to let more than just you or someone else get credit.
I've probably only seen one or two Jurassik teams ever in my entire CoH experience.

Yeppers. Sally goes down in a single hit from anything I believe. It could be two depending on how heavy of an attack it is. I could see Sally being the one exclusion to this idea. *Sagenod*

I'm ashamed to admit I ran from her the first time I saw her (This was just after I had my first run-in with Lusca and got too close to it XD painful lesson)
Back OT, I like monster hunting in CoX. I just wish they had better incentives for tracking them down.
DOH! Well now I feel silly. I just assumed she was as strong as the other GM.

What'd you use the the brute for?
FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.
I'm not sure I want to see a 'standardized reward' for every GM. I'd rather see each GM get it's own table for rewards, maybe even its own merit amount. like maybe one you can pick the merits or pick a temp power or the like or even a costume part.
Adamastor was definitely a step in the right direction, people seem to enjoy taking him on regularly. 10 merits and 5 threads (for 50s) once a day is not bad at all.

I agree, each Giant Monster should offer something unique in addition to merits. Temp powers and costume parts are an excellent suggestion. Perhaps we could add unique non-combat pets, and specific special weapons (Appropriate to class of course), to the costume parts.

(Please support the best webcomic about a cosmic universal realignment by impaired angelic interference resulting in identity crisis angst. Or I release the pigmy water thieves.)
i think if they were made more similar to adamastor it would be fine, adamastor currently awards 10 merits, and if incarnate, 5 threads with the reward being on 20 hour timer
the GMs are not very hard though, my ill cold can solo every GM out there except for seed of hamidon and the arachnos flier (seed of hamidon due to mechanics and flying, arachnos flier due to flying)
I support this. Though an additional idea I'd like to add is increased rewards for fighting harder monsters.
The fact is that Caleb spawns on Virtue only, like, once or twice a month, and in all of my time playing this game I have never seen a team recruit for the arachnos flier once. These monsters are hard to get to and quite hard to fight. Something like the Clockwork palaldin practically spawns en masse. Giving the same rewards for both doesn't sit quite right.

Unless the Devs changed things (and I somehow missed the message) The only thing you can do with Shards is craft stuff to use for the Alpha slot (and only the alpha slot.) OR convert them into Threads to be actually... usefull. At a rate of 10 shards to 5 threads.
Why would we ever want to take a single shard as opposed to 2 threads?
Maybe have a random Rare Invention Salvage drop, instead? Best alternative I can think of at the moment.
That aside, this is a good idea, but it probably needs its own cool-down timer, to prevent abuse.
...at the same time, certain Giant Mosters (I'm looking at you, Lusca!) probably need an alternate table, simply based on how much more involved fighting them is.

Like, just off the top of my head. Stick an Altar on Thorn Isle. Keep the requirement for however many Spectres you have to kill. When you reach the limit, you can go click on the altar to summon Caleb. He spawns right there. The zone event UI can even tell you how many you need to kill before he can be summoned.
Paladin, actually, I'd probably keep the same. I mean the point of the event is to -stop- him from being constructed for the badge. but since 3 can spawn maybe just bump the total up a merit or 2? I think he's ok for a lowbie GM event since the point is to stop the Construct, not actually him.

Or like, Kraken. After defeating it give me a 1 use Hydra boss summon.
Jurrassik - Yeah, perfect titan weapon unlock there.
Jack in Irons/Eochai - Seems like a good spot to stick in some of the Halloween costumes/emotes.
I'm for it.
There would have to be some sort of reward lockout/Diminishing Returns.. and knowing Paragon it would be shared among *all* GMs.
So, using Adamastor as the example, the first GM you slay would yield 10 merits and 5 threads (for 50s), second one (within 20 hours) yields only 5 merits, so on and so fourth.
Maybe? But only if they institute direct ways of bringing them about. Atm Adamastor is the only one that's fast and easy to summon. Most of the others work on a random timer (usually every 2-4 hours from what I've seen) the ones that don't require an effort like defeating X amount of an enemy group. Or there's like the kronos titan who is -only- in one instance (as an archvillain, though it gives the badge) and one ambush (as a full GM).
As it is I've been in in a few Monster Hunting groups. It tends to be a hit or miss thing, you never know who or what is going to be up. The Seed of Hamidon seems to be the only thing that stays spawned, even after defeat the respawn seems to be about an hour or so.

as to the reason nobody goes after the arachnos flier, i would guess because it despawns relatively quickly like <30 min after it spawns, and because its really really really easy to just do an STF and get the badge for it there
personally i think we should have more GMs in general, redside is totally lacking GM options
I -hate- that Redside GMs despawn. I've been in a handful of Scrapyard teams when he despawns in the middle of the fight. That is -ssssssssoooo- damn annoying, especially when we've been close to dropping him.
I think if he aggroes he shouldn't despawn :P I can't imagine that's a super hard change to code
Wait... wait...

But yeah, there's almost no need for shards. Good point.

Hello, everyone. I just thought I'd beat a dead horse.
The developers seem very keen to reviving/revamping old content lately. Giant Monsters aren't too popular anymore and I can see why: They're too much effort for too little of a reward. Giant Monsters give the standard of 2 reward merits if I'm correct.
Why not have a reward table for contributing to fight them? For example, it could be:
- 10 Reward Merits
- Non stacking +10% XP/Inf boost for the next 45 minutes
- A single Incarnate Shard(Level 50 VIP Incarnates only!)
- Two Incarnate Threads (Level 50 VIP Incarnates only!)
- A random super inspiration
Not sure if those rewards are too extreme, too little, or just right. I know they're also not AS hard with all our IOs and Incarnate powers but they're certainly not easy.http://www.virtueverse.net/wiki/Shadow_Mokadara
