Tom Cruise in Van Helsing Reboot

Yes the powers that be are looking at rebooting Van Helsing with Tom Cruise. Now I really liked the Hugh Jackman version just not so sure we even need a reboot. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are spearheading the project too.

Quote:
Variety has the news about the latest project Orci and Kurtzman were handed in their two-year, first-look deal with Universal. The duo are also working on “The Mummy” reboot for Universal and an “Amazing Spider-Man 2″ rewrite for Sony. That’s all in addition to their ongoing production on “Ender’s Game,” their work on “Star Trek 2″ and their upcoming press tours for “People Like Us” and “Now You See Me.”
Quote:
It will be interesting to see if Orci and Kurtzman start from scratch or if they go back to Guillermo del Toro‘s previous attempt to adapt the story in 2010. In all likelihood they’ll go back to the drawing board, but we would love to see del Toro help them out, especially since Cruise was going to be involved in his version of the project as well.

It might be funny if they did a movie sort of like Austin Powers where Cruise plays not only the Van Helsing type character but also the Lestat-styled vampire and we find out by the end that they are actually related to each other. Yes, I'm basically saying this would only work as a spoof-comedy. Any attempt at a "serious" Van Helsing reboot would probably just be dumb.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Reboot? Was there more than one Van Helsing film? If it was a singleton, don't we call that a remake?

It doesn't bother me either way. I didn't enjoy Van Helsing that much, the only thing that struck me as interesting was their take on werewolf transformation. The way they went about it was pretty original.

Normally I would completely ignore this simply for the fact that it'll be a remake of a movie that's not more than 10 years old*. However... The choice of Tom Cruise intrigues me. I'm reminded of his role in Tropic Thunder and it makes me wonder if it might not be such a terrible idea. As annoying as the man may be in real life... he's still damn entertaining to watch. And unlike some actors *cough*Johnny Depp!*cough* he doesn't do 20 billion movies a second and over-stay his welcome. I don't think I'll write this movie off just yet.

*Checked just to make sure my facts are straight: Wow, 2004. That's actually older than I thought it was

I almost walked out of the original Van Helsing I thought it was so awful. I can't really imagine a new one will perk my interest.

Too many alts to list.

Personally, I blame the EDD. They force you to take any job offered to you else they stop sending checks. A man's gotta eat.

Isn't Tom the CEO of United Artist now, since his partner stepped down in 2008? Edit: Oh, I see, MGM now owns UA.

Is it really a reboot or just a new Van Helsing?

I don't consider RDJ's Sherlock Holmes to be a reboot of Sherlock Holmes.

Is it just TC starting a new possible franchise as Van Helsing? Van Helsing who's been around in litarture for quite a long time.

I love the Tom Cat he played Lestat like no one will ever be able to again, ya he's bat **** crazy but all the great ones are just look at Mel Gibson. I will happily watch anything with Tom Cruise in it.
Now SHOW ME THE MONEY!

I dont like overgeneralizing people, religions etc, but the whole Scientology deal seems strange to me. Based off that, Tom's views tend to paint him as a bit of a nutball, but not like "pissing on teenage girls" crazy. As easy as it is to write him off, hes a good actor. Im still a big fan of the small time bit he did in Tropic Thunder (even though Downey ran away with it).

Id need more information and then would have to judge the movie by how it looks.

Ahh. For the most part, I like the Mission Impossible stuff that Cruse did, so I could see more of a realistic take with vampire hunting and all that with some action as being good. The last one was just a mess with all the crappy CGI. I was wanting to like it, but I didn't.
