Poll: Vote for the COH Forums Reskin
Either I'm crazy, or everyone else is crazy, because I think that's one badass picture. I'm going with the latter--you're all crazy!
In option one, Shadowhunter's an Ewok! And Penelope has just escaped from a traumatic stretchy torture table experience! And the face doesn't look like her at all!
In the current picture, Shadowhunter is one badass waffle (look at that sneer!), and Penelope is jumping into the fray with her psychic melee ready for action! It's a scene straight out of a comic book, unlike that emo posing crap they're doing in the other picture.
Stop nitpicking on her pose, it's not supposed to be a Renaissance painting.

Is... is it bad if I say that was kind of the point of me voting for Option 1? I just like that face a lot better. :/

This. But at this point I'm just sick of seeing Penny Yin in general. I understand you wanna make her prominent, but it gets annoying to have her shoved in front of my face every time I log in AND visit these boards. Share the spotlight with some other heroes, or have it rotate out various character.

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

So, #2 "won"... Nice to see our right of suffrage getting pwned by good taste
What I actually see when I log in:
What it actually looks like:
I never actually voted, but I would have voted for option ONE.
What was the point of this poll if the option that got the LEAST votes was the option we got?
What's the deal? Another problem: the options to choose from show the characters larger and on the left and right side of the forum. What I am actually seeing is both characters smaller and on TOP of the forum.
I think somebody done goofed somewhere.

Yeah - wtf.
Can we get a repsonce to why the least voted one was chosen? Edit: There's one answer here
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
I just re-read it again and this is what keeps coming to mind:
*excerpt from Voltaire's Live Album*
Picard: Worf, you're needed on the bridge.
Worf: I..can't...come to the bridge right now captain.
Picard: Worf, that's insubordination, I need you on the bridge right now.

.
Riker: Did you ask him if it was a #1 or #2?
I'm not upset but I am disappointed. Won't bother voting next time since it's just gonna come down to 'whatever fits best'.

Thinking about it, if the characters were down the sides of the forum, our viewing would be a little shrunk width-wise. I can understand that for a reason. But.......why couldn't they have used the image that was chosen as the popular vote and make it so it could be placed on the top? Sounds like there was an oversight before the voting and a decision was made later to change things.
The fact that Statesman isn't there makes the whole thing seem a little redundant in my opinion.

Hello everyone,
While we appreciate the honest criticism, keep the critiques guided towards the topic. Please remember that personal attacks and non-constructive feedback are not permitted on the City of Heroes: Freedom forums.
If the bevaviour continues, further action may be necessary, which is something we'd like to avoid.
We thank you for your understanding.

1) You, the community reps, lied to us. Implicitly, not explicitly, but it was there: "We'll give you (the community) a say in what art graces the forums." But you didn't.
You guys are supposed to have our backs here, and build consensus. This thread asked for our input and generated a consensus so clear it was visible from space. AND THEN YOU IGNORED OUR INPUT ENTIRELY.
Zwill fell on his sword, claiming technical difficulties, but there has been no assurance from you guys that you understand the social aspect of this faux pax. No one's mad that you've chosen to alter the art to fit better on certain viewing aspects/ratios. We're mad because our feedback was ignored.
That doesn't build a community, it destroys it. You, The Mods, should Know Better and apologize NOT for making an artistic or technical error, but for making an error in community management.
2) You're promoting sexist art. You're promoting sexist art in a T for TEEN game. You're promoting sexist art in a T for TEEN game and relying on the commonality of female-specific softcore-porn poses in other comic book media to support your position.
The Over the Shoulder Pose has been increasingly and rightfully coming under fire.
No, It's Not Equal (the best article so far, IMO)
When Oversexualization Kills the Story
Escher Girls, which has plenty of examples along with occasional "fixes" that bring these artistically anatomical freaks into line with reality.
I'm going to note here that I had several humorous links all ready to go, but I've eliminated them to keep this discussion appropriate. Google 'male superheroes posed as women' if you want to see visuals that convey what these articles write about in more effective fashion.
In case it's not clear, I'm accusing you, the Mods, of deliberately oversexualizing Penny, just as she is on the splash screen.
One is a mistake. Both at the same time? That's intentionally going for the softcore porn.
You should be ashamed of yourselves.
3) I fully expect this post to get deleted, under the newly-created "Inappropriate discussion of the aesthetics of the human form, subject to moderator discretion" clause. Hmmmmm. I wonder why that clause was instituted just now?
See my conclusion from point 2). You knew you were about to start using softcore porn to sell your product to teenagers, and you decided to institute a policy enabling you to delete or modify the posts that call you out on it.
I re-iterate: you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.
I posted a "...and you're saying this is all somehow a bad thing?" response to your T for Teen criticisms a few minutes ago, and then deleted it. Because I'm not a forum troll, and because I do feel the need to respect that these things are an issue for people--a valid issue for those who enjoy comic books but do not enjoy looking at oversexualized forms (usually female forms, we can assume, since there aren't usually too many males or females complaining about bulging male biceps in spandex).
I've tried to have this conversation with women I know, curious about their level of frustration with female sexuality in comics and entertainment media in general. And generally, they roll their eyes. I run into more men that have a problem with it than women. I run into more men on the Internet that have a problem with it than anywhere else in my life.
I still read comic books, and I've never had a problem with this aspect of them. I'd be lying if I said I never enjoyed this aspect of them, but it is not even close to being the thing that draws me toward comics (super heroes). I work with, and am friends with, and am related to, plenty of geeky women who enjoy the traditional art of comics as much as the guys. Anecdotal evidence, I know. But few people I know would agree that an undersexualized world would be an improvement of any significance--there's nothing wrong with sexuality. Exploitative sexuality is another ballpark, but there are people who will call any sexuality exploitative. Which is why the people on your side of the fence can't simply convince the rest of us that we're all acting like sleazebags.

I go to Sweden for a week and I miss this? OK, then enjoy my "on the outside looking in" perspective.
It's ridiculous to me to see a poll go so clearly and unambiguously in one direction and yet have the decision made in the other direction. I haven't seen the reasons for this, but I can't think of a justifiable reason to pick what the poll clearly showed people did not want over, say, NOT updating the forum background. If you have to, leave a flat back background with the City of Heroes logo until you work out whatever technical problems there are. And I hope there are technical problems, because otherwise this casts polls from our community team in a very negative light.
If I could, I'd vote for option 1. I find Penny is in a much more appealing pose in there. Her head doesn't look like Trollface and she isn't constrained to the "people leaping at each other" motif that we've had going for some time. If we're going for a static shot I'll be seeing over and over again, I'd rather it were a more neutral one, because I don't really enjoy seeing my heroes perpetually scowling like I logged into the City of Leifeld forums. Pick poses and pictures appropriate to the environment you'll be using them in. Penny standing up looking strong and tall is, to me, much more appealing than penny twisting her spine, twisting her ankles and twisting her face.
I dislike the current loading screen Penny pick. In my case, it's not so much a question of sexism, so much as I just feel this is a terrible picture. I don't know who made it (David?) so I don't want to spit on it, but I really do not like it. The one offered as Option 1 is not only superior for the forums, in my opinion, but I'd also like to see it in the actual game. To me, it's simply a superior pic. In fact, the way she's posed and with the low-res pic, Penny's face paint kind of looks like tattooed tears, making her looks a bit like Diamanda Hagan, which just makes her look all the more impressive.
In short, this decision is gravely disappointing, more so with the poll results.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

Honestly, though, I shouldn't be HAVING to rely on third party stuff to clear up my own damn viewing experience on the boards.
