What costume piece do you think is dumb or bad, but turns out to be really cool in use?
The Barbarian Bra: an Armored Bra all by itself is fairly stupid (Red Sonja); this one tends to look pretty good with mixed with other pieces though. Maybe simply because it provides pretty good cleavage

The Tin Crown...
I thought it might be silly, but I've been wearing it everywhere and everyone seems to be buzzing about me.

For me I'm going to have to go with the chain neck/shoulder double loop. It looks silly, but man can it complete a costume and fill some empty space
Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.
I end up using the male briefs a lot.
Actually it's not "cool" it's just silly. But on a lot of my characters I end up trying to mix "tight" or "bare" items of clothing with "oversized" articles. The ladies often end up in tight shirts, the guys with either the upper arms showing or the legs, especially paired with oversized boots, helmets, backpacks, etc.
[QUOTE=dugfromthearth;4215197]for me it is the Victorian Decor aura. I mean the idea is just stupid - a Victorian Decor aura, what would that even mean?[QUOTE]
Seriously. A Victorian aura that looks like... what is that?
You know what it is? Probably the best aura for my magic-based characters.

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

Well, it's still some armor, so it's better than nothing - and it does cover the heart and a lot of the lungs

It's like the Guys running around with only Armored Cod-pieces on -- hmmm.. actually I can see that...
I have that problem a lot apparently.
I really disliked the new Circle of Thrones outfits and thought they were very derivitive until I started using them. Then I found I liked them a lot.
A lot of the auras are like that though. On the right character they are extremely cool but otherwise they look ridiculous.
Being able to color your powers really didn't excite me much. But then I made a Steam Scrapper by recoloring Fire and a Ice/Ice Dom by recoloring Energy and fell in love. I don't care that it is the same powers I had before, it feels different.

You can't please everyone, so lets concentrate on me.
I thought the crystal pieces on the Elemental Order costume were kind of goofy and out of place, especially since that set has such good traditional military uniform pieces.
But then I see in the post-your-costume threads people using those crystal pieces to great effect mixed in with other pieces.

That and I'm getting a lot of mileage out of the Circle of Thorns shoulders - usually combined with the Organic (not the big bulky ones) gloves.
Yes, but if you're going to bother with armor, why armor up only very small section?

And you don't want to see armored cod pieces. And it is done enough.
Some armor is like having -some- deodorant (like one armpit's worth). You still end up stinking. Or in the case of armor, you still end up getting your head cut off.

I was just meaning that although the idea of armored bikinis are dumb, I'd still pick one over a leather or cotton one, as it'd still give some protection.

Surprisingly enough, the costume piece I find myself appreciating more and more as time goes on is ...
Female --> Gloves --> Sleeves
This is quite ironic since it is an incredibly *ancient* costume part that probably dates all the way back to Beta (if not earlier). It's a low polygon count, no meaningful texture, dirt simple costume piece that's basically "bell bottoms for forearms" ... and it works(!). One of my bigger challenges is trying to figure out what to do for Gloves with Chest pieces like Witch Lace and Imperial Dynasty and some others, where it is just really "inconvenient" to have the Chest costume part abruptly end at the elbow with nothing there to carry it forward down to the hand. Amazingly enough, in a lot of cases, the use of Sleeves solves a lot of these problems, and looks like something that "makes sense" for characters who use guns.
Outside of the chest piece, the Dynasty pieces are a royal mess that doesn't look good with anything except each other. I've tried to make them work and failed over and over again mad at why the devs would allow pieces that don't play well with anything else.
And then I keep seeing other player with cool, non Dynasty themed costumes.
Arggg..
The new States and Recluse masks don't mesh well with other costumes as well.. On a high resolution the colouring doesn't match. It kept me from enjoying the pieces

Hats... Cos it's either no hair or the same looking hair.
for me it is the Victorian Decor aura. I mean the idea is just stupid - a Victorian Decor aura, what would that even mean? And then looking at it in the costume creator it looks weird.
But in play I have rarely seen it look less than awesome on characters that use it. I don't know if just good costume designers tend to use it, or the aura is that good. But it just looks cool and really fits a variety of themes.
