Why do they keep using Clown Summon as JOKE?

I do not get it. I know people who have sent requests in for clown summoning MMs. I think it is in poor taste to take something your customers have been requesting for years... and make a joke out of it.... It would be so much fun!!! If you are not going to make it fine, but do you really have to take our request and use it for April Fools jokes?

Because it was first suggested as a joke.

And it might have died there, but then Positron (the dev) had a very exaggerated "No Clowns!" reaction. Which led to people saying that Positron had a pathological fear of clowns, preventing us from having the set. Which led to people requesting it more, just to poke fun at Positron and have fun with the in-joke.

Then it got mentioned often enough that some people said "you know, I'd really like that, actually."

there's some kind of vicious cycle along the lines of:

joke --> in-joke --> localized meme --> taken seriously --> makes it a better joke --> repeat

going on sometimes.

When my friends and I suggested it... 3 or 4 years ago it was not suggested as a joke... We were serious that we wanted it... Our suggestion for it happened long before the stuff you mention happened... in fact it was around the time that the jester costume stuff came out, and we made an all clown SG..... It had NOTHING to do with anything that you are talking about.... SO for me they are taking something we sent them as a request and are using for jokes.... I find it in poor taste that they took something we asked for and ran with it like this... and there are things in the joke that were specifically asked for like Clowns jumping out of a tiny car... we suggested it like thug war....

I normally do not post here, but every time I send a suggestion through the option I get told to go to the forum if I want the devs to see what I have to say, and this time I decided to do that.... because I want to pass the message to them that taking something we asked for specifically, and using it as a joke is in POOR TASTE...

That would be a lame April Fools Joke... an April Fools complaint about their April Fools... You might not want clown MMs, but I do and I know other people that do.... There were plenty of funny things in their post that was funny... why add something that people actually want....

Okay, I apologize, but thats more then a little ridiculous. Its CLOWN SUMMONING. Thats...how could you even begin to take that seriously? Is there anything else clown related powerset wise in this game? Don't get me wrong, I understand wanting something, but...you also have to have realistic expectations. This? Is not one. At all. So I am sorry you got your feelings hurt over this, but you really, REALLY need to learn firstly to lighten up, and secondly to not expect something THAT ridiculous.

Maybe not any specific clown power, but you do have the ability to make any toon a clown... I have a couple toons that are clowns... my boyfriend has MULTIPLE clowns, and pretty much every person I started the game with has at least one crazy looking clown toon... the costume stuff is there.... and I have to say... you might not take my clown brute seriously, but she can kick some serious BOOTAY!!! LOL So since we can attack as clowns... I do not think it is ridiculous... besides that villainous clowns are all over in comic books, and stuff... it is not that far fetched...

I am not that worked up about it... but I keep getting told if I want the devs to see my feed back I have to post here.... and I don't think they should take what customers have asked for and make it a joke...

Personally, I think it would have been pretty funny. Of course, I also find the idea of Clown MM's funny because I think it's completely ridiculous... kind of like clowns themselves.

But you obviously take the Clown MM idea a lot more seriously than I do ::shrug:: These things happen. Maybe when/if pet customization becomes a reality, this will become a non-issue.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of clowns? Aren't they supposed to be ridiculous?

Well... there is precedent....

The Joker. The Jester 'class' of Gauntlet. The Drunken Master of 1v1 martial arts video games. Kender. Disney's Aladdin's Genie. Mr. Mxylupagus (not bothering to look it up). Impossible Man.

Not to mention how many 'supers' have circus/carnie backgrounds to account for their strength or agility or side-show freakishness.

Bizarre, comic-relief, side show: Not alien to the genre.

I'm going to expunge the genie from that list, and go withsaying that most of those weren't handled in an all comic relief manner. Well, depending on what version of the Joker we are talking about. Regardless, none of them were handled in the strictly-speaking circus manner, and none of those were mimes.

Its not an impossibility, nothing is really, its just an improbability. Wanting is all good and fine, but getting angry over an April Fools joke because it pokes at something improbable is just over reacting.

Probably a sure sign that it'll never actually happen in game

I read your complaint. I read your name. Let's just leave it at that.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

I think it's pretty telling that both people in this thread who are taking this so "seriously" have "PvP Bootcamp Mentor" as a title.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

Aneko... I do not care what you think of my global name... I used "Poor Taste" because someone suggested I not say it was poor customer service to use something customers have asked for as a joke.

DarGob... WTH does the fact that I was in PVP Boot camp have to do with the price of tea in China???

I only posted here because it is the only outlet to get anything to devs... I have tried using the support ticket where it says feedback and suggestions... but I am always told to come here... so against my better judgement I came here...

Because of the Joker and the Riddler, Paragon is going to be extremely wary of creating "official" clown ATs to avoid the appearance of stepping on DC's trademarks. The Marvel suit showed that providing the tools for users to create characters that resemble trademarked characters was very close to the line, but making official clown ATs would probably be considered over it, especially since DC now has their own superhero MMORPG property.

That, as much as anything, is why clown-summoning MMs will likely remain a joke.

None of my clowns look like those clowns, but my point is not that I am mad that it is not coming out.... my only point was you do not take something your customers have asked for, and run with it as a joke.... It's rude.... it was bad enough the first time, but do it again... they had some really good jokes in there, so why add something that people have asked for?

Not rude, funny.

This thread really should have ended with Aneko and DarkGob's replies; they said it all.
