Why do they keep using Clown Summon as JOKE?
Thank you.
Some people seem to have missed where, after I implied that I don't consult "pimps" on matters of taste, the OP commented that the phrase "poor taste" was used because someone recommended not using "poor customer service". That person didn't seem particularly offended by my post, so there's probably no reason for these random, uninvolved people to be raising such a fuss. |
Aneko-
Hi, yep me again. Honestly, I was going to let this issue rest, as it is clear that you really do not want to hear what myself or some other posters are saying. However, I had a few minutes and I thought I would put one last effort into trying to communicate with you about why I have found some of your posts offensive.
Since I'm silly, lets work our way backwards. Starting with what I quoted. Just because the OP didn't respond to you, does not mean that she was not offended by your post, it just means she didn't feel the need to respond to you, perhaps she is trying to be the bigger poster?
Second, you state that Roderick's opinion is "irrelevant" because you did not specifically ask him how you were 'attacking'. I think its pretty clear that I am not the only person who read your posts as being a bit, shall we say 'agressive'.
As far as us being "random, uninvolved people to be raising such a fuss" how are we uninvolved? The OP posted a topic, to which your response was neither constructive nor helpful, I responded stating that perhaps your post might violate the forum rules and guidelines and a few other posters also seemed to agree. I think we are just as involved with this thread as you seem to be.
I guess what I am hoping to point out is that, dismissing a person based on their global or forum name is kind of ridiculous. I mean look at some of the more well respected forum names: Top Doc, Claws and Effect, Arcanaville the list goes on, silly names but great knowledge and advice from all those players.
If you think the OPs post is silly, wrong or misbased, its one thing to state :
"Hey Bambi, I'm sure Paragon Studios gets thousands of ideas sent to them about power sets, I highly doubt that this April Fool's joke was a personal attack on you or your friends who may have suggested this in the past."
Instead you posted what you did. Perhaps in jest, perhaps just to flex some e-peen. In either case, sometimes a joke can be offensive and that was what I was pointing out to you.
Electric-Knight- I'm glad that you supported Aneko's side of the situation because as with everything there are two views, I am sure there are other people who also felt that his/her posts were funny and worthwhile. I would just state (again) that judging a poster's validity or worthiness shouldn't be based on their forum or global name. In addition, mocking a person because of something they feel strongly about is well... you fill in the blank.
Dark Gob- PM sent to you, since you seem to want to follow the advice of one of the posters and keep the 1:1 posts in private.
Aneko- I am sure you will have something to respond, I welcome it. This will however, be my last post on this topic just because this horse is dogmeat.
Okay, I apologize, but thats more then a little ridiculous. Its CLOWN SUMMONING. Thats...how could you even begin to take that seriously? Is there anything else clown related powerset wise in this game? Don't get me wrong, I understand wanting something, but...you also have to have realistic expectations. This? Is not one. At all. So I am sorry you got your feelings hurt over this, but you really, REALLY need to learn firstly to lighten up, and secondly to not expect something THAT ridiculous.

Yeah...and they had all those 'Beast-Control Powers' already in the game before they did Beast Mastery. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
I got two words that makes a Clown Summoning/Control set worth while: The Joker. Feel that little tingle down your spine as you conjure up images of the most evil, sadistic clown of all?
Now think of the words Beast Summoning and try to NOT think of that almost comical movie Beast Master.
Clowns = creepy
Animals = not superhero-y enough for me.

I didn't dismiss the person. I dismissed their judgement on what constitutes bad taste. And I was satisfied with their response. Certain other people won't let it go, for some reason.
'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.
So not to disrupt this rather lovely little exchange, I thought I would put in my opinion.
The fact that someone sees Clown Summoning as a valid suggestion is not that issue or the fact that the Dev's used it as a joke. We can agree to disagree to agree about nothing when it comes to that. Coming from someone whose main character is forever stigmatized with "Joker" or "Riddler" but has little in common with either, I can say that Clown Summoning is something I really don't care one way or the other but feel it's an excessive request. I could just as easily get a few people who happen to be pastafarians to give us a spaghetti monster MM set to take the request seriously, doesn't equate it to be logical or even valid.
That being said, if you are going to talk about "clown" henchman.. then there are clowns.. and then there are clowns..
Personally, were they to make a simple "Henchman" that uses doppleganger color variables in their costumes to emulate their "Boss", I think even those that call for "Clown Summoning" would be pleased overall. no mercs, no ninjas, no thugs.. just Henchman that do what henchman do best.. some use guns and some use magic, some use their fists while others use their mind.. but all of them looking like your classic "henchman". Given the right color coordination, they could be clowns, robbers, heroes or even just men in black.
But, considering how many types of MM's there are now, unfortunately, I can't see them giving us another for several years, even if they get an overload of requests involving rampant clowns...
When my friends and I suggested it... 3 or 4 years ago it was not suggested as a joke... We were serious that we wanted it... Our suggestion for it happened long before the stuff you mention happened... in fact it was around the time that the jester costume stuff came out, and we made an all clown SG..... It had NOTHING to do with anything that you are talking about.... SO for me they are taking something we sent them as a request and are using for jokes.... I find it in poor taste that they took something we asked for and ran with it like this... and there are things in the joke that were specifically asked for like Clowns jumping out of a tiny car... we suggested it like thug war....
I normally do not post here, but every time I send a suggestion through the option I get told to go to the forum if I want the devs to see what I have to say, and this time I decided to do that.... because I want to pass the message to them that taking something we asked for specifically, and using it as a joke is in POOR TASTE... |
Take a long look at your forum name and then come talk to me about poor taste.
Seriously.

I happened to think that Aneko's comment about the name and the comment was quite funny and worthy of saying.
Classifying it as an attack is... almost as bad as getting upset about clown henchmen being used as part of the April Fools joke. Seems everyone here could use a nice cold seltzer in the face. |
As a big fan of the old Saturday Morning cartoons, I could see this working but not with the traditional circus clown theme. You'd have to go over the top with BIG hammers, pies to the face, all the stuff we liked to laugh at. I can see a set that would be hilarious to just sit and watch. If you leave out the creepy clown aspect then you get no worries about DC getting upset about the Joker.
I just don't think enough players would paly it. Most players, IMHO, are thinking more of creepy clowns which would be easy to do as a set but not nearly as much fun to watch or play. They might also stray too close to the Joker to make the Legal Dept comfortable.
In the end I think that the idea is sound but that the application would be too tough to be worth the effort.
"Comics, you're not a Mastermind...you're an Overlord!"
With the increased emphasis on perks (and $$$) via the Paragon Market, an easier to implement/sell proposal would be a costume change for humanoid MM minions (thugs, mercs, ninjas... maybe even undead zombies).
No power changes, and I believe I read a few years ago that custom pet costumes are harder to implement than playes may think, but I think the paragon market has shown that players drop $$$$ on shiny new costume packs to match their character concept. With the lack of variety in MM pets right now, I bet they'd make a truckload.
Of course, it would be better for us if we could create our own costumes, but then they couldn't sell MM pet costume packs to us.
I personally would welcome Clown Summoning, all joking aside.
The lvl 18 power would summon a Volkswagen Beetle and 18 clowns would pile out and beat the crap out of everything before disappearing in a cloud of confetti!
