Captain Taggard in Steel Canyon

Agent White

This guy seems to have shown up pretty recently in Steel Canyon:

He's close to Positron and Valkyrie, but hasn't got any bio or other info at all:

So, is he PPD? Something from SSA2, or something very early from I23?

I noticed him too. Could be anything. New contact, new SSA, new taskforce.

Could be the new holder for the Positron Taskforces. With Statesman and Psyche out of the picture, maybe all the 'signature' taskforces will be moved to lesser NPCs so the signature characters can be used for something else.

Who knows!

Got no clue.
Since Infernia is the contact for SSA#7 this guy's place is for a next thing.
Is that live or beta?
Too late to conect to the game again and check it...

That's GG only and main costume?

I see nothing wrong with the costume, personally.

If I was the Devs, I'd a good while before an issue release add a few random NPCs that look... interesting... just scattered around. Not too many, but enough to get people curious. And then, just as silently, remove them. People will go nuts about them every time, the curiosity would kill people! Instant player-done marketing!

Me neither.
I like that costume and concept. Im curious because that is the only costume I've seen for GG, thats all.
Some people sticks with 1 character with 1 costume, some others got many alts, and others are altaholics with 10 costume slots.
I like that.

I would guess either a contact for Posi's TF so he is free to run the Statesman's, or a contact for the next set of SSAs.

If I recall correctly, GG only plays that one toon and she looks the same on every server.

There are several characters that have appeared in the game over the last couple of issues that have no apparent role as yet (though they are clearly intended to):

Off the top of my head, there's that guy in Sharkhead near the training Arbiter who's been there forever, and there's a brand new ship in the waters of Independence Port just north of Terra Volta that has a Longbow Chopper and Guardian that are clickable but don't actually take you anywhere... yet!

If I recall correctly (and I would need to go play through the arc again to confirm) he is mentioned in Laura Lockhart's story arc (one of the new I22 mid level arcs). Though she refers to her superior officer in a mission brief as Colonel Taggard (as opposed to Captain Taggard).

Given the resolution of the arc I imagine he was either intended to be the contact you talk with to end the arc, or a contact for a sequel arc.

I figured if anyone would know already, it'd be you... so much for that theory.

I'll agree with you about *her* costume, but Taggard's irks me to no end. He's wearing the Military Decorated jacket, the one I've been hoping to get proliferated from the Male model to the Huge and Female.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

There's also that granny by the Atlas Wentworth's that I don't think does anything yet. And isn't there some other guy in a suit behind city hall now?

Or the gal behind the talos wentworth's.

There's a lot of unused contacts scattered around.. anyone remember Canada Joe in Port Oakes?

Yeah He came out with issue 22, I thought he might have something to do with the new mid lvl Story Mission, But I ran them both and nope has nothing to do with the new Content.

But They did talk about it in it, Could be something to do with the last who will die.

well they did say They did have plan to do other Signature Story Arcs, after the who will die is over.

"Albert Maurer" is simply an early draft of Jenni Adair (Special Agent Keith Nance's boss from the clone saga) that somehow sneaked into the live servers. This Taggard guy seems to be something different, though he could be a development artifact as well.

If it is, then that would explain his uniform color - it's too bright to be PPD blue, or anything from our military - but it's about the right shade to be from the UN.

Alos, with the newer style of joined up story telling, it's quite possible that he could be an SSA2 contact who was referenced in Laura's arc.

It's really not the right shade of blue to be UN blue. (but then again, the contact in SC wears a red beret, so what the heck do I know?)

I've heard that he's actually the NPC that introduces you to Laura Lockhart.

Frankly we've already got too many redundant alphabet-soup organizations that have been introduced lately. Hardly anything's been done with S.A.M.; why wouldn't they expand on that instead of making up the UNSF?

61866 - A Series of Unfortunate Kidnappings - More than a coincidence?
2260 - The Burning of Hearts - A green-eyed monster holds the match.
379248 - The Spider Without Fangs - NEW - Some lessons learned (more or less.)

Because as one of the devs put it, new writers want to tell their own original stories rather than research old lore and make new stories based on existing characters and groups. That's why every other issue we get three brand new groups to familiarize ourselves with.

Also, his suit looks terrible. They need to tone down the blue.

They're the same writers

Plus, SAM doesn't really cover the same area as the UNSF - and it's also possible that the UNSF is being set up to replace the generic military in any Shadow Shard revamp - although the Vanguard would seem to be a better fit for dealing with a threat like Rularuu - but both choices would still fit in with the more sophisticated post-GR storytelling style.
