Discussion: Spring Fling is near!

Spring is just around the corner, and Cupid's arrows are nocked--it's almost time for the annual Spring Fling celebration! This time, the matchmaking cherub has gone all out with new missions, badges, and temporary powers!

In addition to the yearly co-op tasks of fighting Arachnos to retake tainted water from the Well of the Furies, retrieving Aphrodite's Girdle for the god Eros, and stopping that dimension-hopping Red Cap, Snaptooth, this year's Spring Fling introduces two brand new holiday missions, with new rewards!

Widow in Red

Ms. Liberty (Heroes) and Arbiter Hawk (Villains) have recruited you for a secret mission involving the infamous Red Widow, Lord Recluse's long-deceased love. This mission is available for characters level 30 or higher, and awards the Widow Maker badge for completion!

Valentines

No Valentine's Day would be complete without the exchange of love letters, but many of these heartfelt confessions have gotten lost throughout Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, and Praetoria! DJ Zero has charged you with finding these Valentines and delivering them to their intended recipients, but that doesn't mean you have to: if you're feeling mischievous, you can misdirect the letters!

These Valentines drop from eligible mobs in Paragon City, the Rogue Isles, and Praetoria during Spring Fling. Players must be level 20 or higher, and have completed an attunement mission from Ganymede (Heroes) or Scratch (Villains). Completing a Valentine mission rewards you with new temp powers Arrows of Romance, which increases regeneration of allies and placates foes; or Arrows of Jealousy, which increases damage dealt by friends and confuses enemies. Completing Valentines missions will also award the Match Maker or Missed Connection badges!

The Spring Fling event begins Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 7am PST (10am EST / 3pm GMT / 4pm CET) and ends on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 7am PST (10am EST / 3pm GMT / 4pm CET)!

What makes you think I haven't already done them with lowbie alts? There's one or two that haven't, but the VAST majority got the badges the first time around. And quite frankly, I am sick to death of seeing Snaptooth, in any form.

Not to be confused with the Widow/Widower badge. Will the fem version of this be the Widower Maker .. er?

Looking forward to meeting new teammates for the co-ops!

Considering it involves doing something with the Red Widow, I doubt this is a gender-sensitive badge.

Really? level 30?

Special Events, Community events, Holiday events.... should always be for everyone.
How hard is that to grasp?

Except you are going to have to get that girdle to do some of the new stuff...

She used to just be protected for her loyalty--and now, suddenly, Recluse and the Red Widow are lovers fraught with peril?

Considering that Recluse got her killed, that's the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

What he said. *sigh*

I'm really starting to despair at some of the decision making at Paragon Towers.

What is happening in those two arcs isn't something some brand new registered hero/villain would be doing. And it's really just one arc unless you switch alignments a lot.

Besides, players constantly badger the Devs for 30+ content.

Agreed. Some gated content is fine but not events like this.

Ditto. Personally I'd punt him and that idiot BNY into the centre of Hamidon and leave them there.

Presumably it's some type of reverse-marketing strategy. Work out which option that annoys the most customers and go with that.

Over the past few years, there seems to be less and less thought gone into anything that is produced in the game.

Three fast examples:
1) Availability of Incarnate powers in any team/TF ran above level 44 just ruined any content ran at that level.
2) The grindfest which has been created by the 'end-game' Incarnate content
3) and let's not forget the various currencies which appear to be breeding faster than a bacteria culture.

I haven't even touched on the mess that is the rewards/points system, or the seemingly random availability of (over-priced) costume items. And ... how many players did you lose when you decided to 'upgrade' the NC account security; just after you decided it would be a good idea to have a forum password the same as the account password.

Would it be too hard to listen to your player base? Not your fanboi-base but the main population. Just because you have a couple of people who tell you everything you do is right, it doesn't make it the truth.

These arcs involve some major changes for Arachnos and Recluse - it's more like content that happens to have a kind of relationship theme to it, rather than special Valentine's Day content.

In her second arc Ghost Widow describes Red Widow as "someone who was once very dear to Lord Recluse."

The end cutscene doesn't feature any skulls.

No. It is special Valentine event BECAUSE it only happens during the V-Day event. If they just added the arc to the normal game, then myself and others wouldn't be complaining about leaving people/toons out of the event because of the level restriction.

Promotional and holiday events shouldn't leave people out period. No level restrictions, no pay/free restrictions, no only this server restriction, and when ever possible within the law no country restrictions.

Wish for a moment before people jump on the kiss the devs *** bandwagon, they would look at how this effects other players first.

If you are a new or realatively new person and are playing during this time. You may not be able to play in the event. So now what make them wait a year to find out what they missed? And then that year comes around but old timers go bah! same old thing as last year so they don't run it. (see snaptooth missions on V-Day and X-mas) So a good chance that new person who missed out this year will have a harder time next year to do it.

That is why its dumb to put level restrictions.

Yes Halloween had a low level restriction. It wasn't too bad since most people could reach that level in a hour in the sewers. But level 30 for a casual player is a big hurdle.

It's only one arc

So there is nothing for new or relatively new people to do in the event? I just do not see the big deal with the level restriction and am happy to see new content. I'll leave final review though until after I play it.

If you are a new casual player that would have a hard time getting a toon to lvl 30, especially since half could easily be gotten from sewers as mentioned by you, then the content that is currently available should be more than enough to satisfy.
