The Walking Dead returns...
Interesting interview with Kirkman about Season 2.5.
Of course, he blames the leaden pace of the first part of Season 2 on Darabont:
Consensus on the first half of the season is that it had a much different pace than the first season. Did you just want to slow the storytelling down? It appears that the first half of second season moves a little bit slower than maybe it should. And I think thats a byproduct of building to our midseason finale and knowing where we were going to end up, and putting all our pieces in place, and trying to tell the story in a somewhat cinematic kind of way, which may or may not work in episodic television. I will say thats one of the holdovers from Frank Darabont. He really wanted to take things slow and spend a lot of time dealing with different things. He was very much a big fan of the slow burn. Because hes no longer on the show and Glen Mazzara took over as showrunner, hes a big fan of much more fast-paced storytelling. So I think there will be somewhat of a shift when we come back with the season where were going to be a little more action-packed and are going to move at kind of a breakneck pace compared to the first few episodes. And I think, looking at whole season together, when you see the first two parts, youll see that the first half of season kind of works, because we were building towards an event. And once that event happens when Sophia emerges from the barn things just continue to escalate. So it will make sense and the whole season will be cool to watch as a whole. But there is going to be some drastically different pacing issues now that Glen Mazzara is running the show. |

The pacing of the second season of the show was a little slow, but not overly much. I think they spent maybe a total of 2 shows worth too long at Hershel's farm. I hope they do tweak the pace of season 2.5 up a notch, but I also hope they don't read too much into this criticism and over-correct in this area. This show has a very strong and detailed story - if I had a choice I'd rather its pacing be a little too slow than too fast.

Based on the spoilers, it sounds like it's going to go much quicker.
And I'd place the blame Darabont as well. Especially since he was hoping to interject the slow pace of the arc with the battle of Atlanta episodes, which I presume was supposed to create the illusion of a quicker paced season
Also, Tony Moore is now suing Kirkman over the Walking Dead. Mind you, his lawsuit sounds like garbage.

Wow...I would be immediately suspicious of those two guys. Especially with all the questions about where Glenn, Rick, and Herschel are staying. No way those two have anything good in mind.
I'll avoid specifics for you west coasters...but...I really enjoyed tonight's episode.
Rick has been partially redeemed, as a character on the television vs. the comic Rick, in my eyes.
Disappointed I'd have to watch Comic Book Men to get the sneak peek of next week's show. Will wait for AMC to put it online
Someone is especially good at leaking the episodes, so keep an eye out for potential spoilers those who wish to avoid them.
I found a completely accurate synopsis (down to exact phrasing in some cases) on a Youtube video, titled "Walking Dead: Nebraska Preview"

Comic Book Men is actually fairly funny. If I'm ever out that way, I need to stop by that store just to see it. And maybe get a Silent Bob autograph.

Let's just say we can only hope that 20 years from now they won't re-edit this episode the same way Lucas re-edited the Solo-Greedo encounter.

NCSoft will be getting no more of my money and my GW2 purchase was halted the day of the announcement. I'm a loyal and very profitable customer. I hope to return to giving them all of my money, should CoH survive.
for those that are interested the song that was in the show tonight was The Regulator by Clutch...awesome song....

I think I've seen sharper Play-Doh than her. Regarding those guys, yeah they were almost certainly thieves or raiders. I haven't read the comics and stay away from spoilers, so I don't know who ends up how, but I was almost yelling at the TV about Hershel's daughter. "Check her for bite marks!" Also, I wish they'd go ahead and shoot Shane. I can't stand arrogant 'alpha males' like him. I really enjoyed this episode.

Not really sure what TV Rick might have had to be "redeemed" for, but it seems fairly clear (especially with what happened during the last couple of minutes of tonight's episode) that both versions of the character are following parallel development as far as what they are willing to do to protect the group.

I didn't quite understand Lori's concern. Maybe because it wasn't clear about the length of time. Frankly, if she eats it...I'd be okay. I just hope this doesn't turn into Sophia situation. I have my suspicions of how it'll actually play out, but I'll avoid detailing since it may be spoiler heavy.
The Philly guys were something specifically for the show. The "What We Become" arc has some interaction with raiders, but it plays differently. Similar end though.
I was surprised they are alluding to Carl becoming "cold" already. But without Sophia to keep him in the "kid zone", I guess it has to be done.

I was really hoping this episode would end with them finding the prison, but it continues to travel at a snail's pace. Hopefully they retrieve Lori or she makes her way back to the farm by the end of the next episode so it doesn't end with Rick and company getting back and realizing Lori's missing.

really dont think that the prison angle will be explored in the series....they keep talking about the military compound....and who knows, maybe those guys in the bar were just blowing smoke just to gauge their reaction.....

Finally protecting the group, functioning as the leader they desperately need. Versus, the previous part of the season where he was more concerned playing the peace maker between groups. And before that (Season 1), trying to run from his obligations as a leader. I realize Darabont loves (loved) the "Slow burn" build up in character development...but it nearly ruined that character. Hopefully Mazzara fixes those kind of issues in the future.

Sure it's nice that TV Rick has been moving towards understanding what he needs to do to be the "leader" of the group, but I saw that same parallel growth of the comic version of him too. Obviously both media have the characters moving at their own pace, but frankly I always thought in many cases the comic moved too fast and glossed over the most important points in just a few panels that lacked the detail the TV show can provide.
Ultimately I'm not saying I like either the TV show or the comic book absolutely better than the other. But I'm accepting of their collective strengths and overlook their unique weaknesses. *shrugs*

For what that's worth they've been pretty much dropping hints that Carl isn't going to have a "normal childhood" since the first season. What we saw of that in last night's episode was just the latest bit of that development.

A few days left folks.
Some rumors about the rest of Season 2 were squeaked out today.
Some from a credible source. Some from not so credible of source. I'll avoid detailing them here since they will ruin the season. PM me if you want specifics.
And final piece of "Something to Fear" art was posted today. And it was a doozey.
I'm going to predict it'll be my favorite arc since "Fear the Hunters"
Also, the Cutting Room HC book is due out in about six weeks. It contains art and storylines from the comic that were shelved for a multitude of reasons.
