It's time to roll out your red envelopes and couplets, because the year of the dragon is nearly upon us! Bring your fireworks and light up the sky for January's developer-judged Costume Contest! Come show off your dragon or lion costumes, or come as anything that evokes the lunar new year for you! Just remember to make it something that we can readily identify without needing to look at your bio or asking you! The judges for this contest will be Alpha Wolf and Arbiter Hawk!

The costume contests will take place on Friday, January 27th, in Pocket D on the Virtue server at the following times:

11:00am PST (2:00pm EST, 7:00pm GMT, 20:00 CET)

and

5:00pm PST (8:00pm EST, 1:00 GMT, 02:00 CET)

Please make sure to line up on time at the windows in Pocket D! If you don't end up in the same Pocket D as other people, don't worry! We'll check every Pocket D before making the judging decisions! Semi-finalists will be teleported to our super-secret lair, and then finalists will be determined. Make sure not to leave until we've announced that all semi-finalists have been chosen!

Semi-finalists will win a costume code, and the top 3 will win VIP Game Time!

Kung hei fat choi! saehae bog manh-i bad-euseyo! Xin nian kuai le!
恭喜发财! 새해 복 많이 받으세요! 新年快乐

Did it used to be funny until something happened to it?

It's overly used >_> and I still don't get it. Other than the fact that they stole it from "Bryan's Return" a book that was written way before skyrim, where it mentions Bryan literally getting an arrow in his leg -knee area. That's the only other older reference I can think of

You don't "get it" because it's not funny to begin with.

You seem grouchy today - is your old leg wound giving you trouble?

It used to be a traveling comic, until it got an arrow to the knee.

I don't usually enter these types of contests, but it just so happens that I have something appropriate already in the stables, so I've made a copy on Virtue. See you Friday!

Glad you guys are listening to the player base about the Dev held CC's only on the VIP server.

I hope that this is also the start of some kind of server rotation, and that all servers will have a Dev held CC at one point.

This will bring the community closer together.
Free players see that the Devs also care about them, and the VIPs on other servers will feel like real VIPs, not just some outcasted paying players because they refuse to leave the server they call home.

THANK YOU DEVS!

Humor's subjective. What you find unfunny, someone else may think is hilarious.

I'm not sure how it COULD be funny. The line itself wasn't even meant to be humorous.

Skyrim guards say stuff when you go near.

Until you've done enough of the main story line, they have a limited selection of things to say, one of which is the arrow/knee comment. Because they have a limited selection of things to say at that point, you hear those things a lot more often. Especially if you spend a lot of time in towns/cities, with more guards.

It seems in the early story, nearly every single guard in Skyrim would be a famous adventurer, except they took an arrow to the knee.

It's not funny without the context. Even with the context, it's not as funny as the meme users make it out to be. It is, at best, amusing.

Congratulations - that's most impressive. (The CoH costume creator really does need a proper ape/chimp/gorilla face, though.)

I used the Feline face and messed with the sliders to flatten its nose. I think it came out pretty well. :3

I've been a huge fan of the Monkey King legends for years. When that video of Staff Fighting got leaked a few months back, and I heard about the Forms and the ability to do Energy Damage with a staff, I realized I HAD to make a Sun Wukong character, and thus created this costume which is just kinda sitting on a placeholder character for the time being. From what I've seen of Staff Fighting so far in the beta, he's going to become one of my favorite characters.

Still haven't decided whether to pair him with Stone Armor or Energy Aura yet, but I've been testing with Stone and it's fun.

Thank you all very much. As they say, it's an honor to even be nominated... but really, I can only thank the developers for giving me the tools to put together such an impressive likeness of one of my most cherished storybook heroes. The fact that he's a public domain character and thus can't get banhammered helps, though.

That's definitely an ingenious substitute for a monkey face. With your permission, I may want to try it out on a concept simian char of my own. Homages to Detective Chimp and Congorilla will have to wait for a proper ape pack, though. (Please get on this, Noble Savage.)

Yeah that works pretty well. I did it a few years back for an AR Blaster named Gunmonkey that I didn't keep very long.
