Quote:I agree, you did a good job with the colors! I think the foreshortening worked for her pose, she does seem to be reaching out towards her target.I am VERY happy that, for once, I've drawn a female super-hero who isn't being objectified. Yes, her figure is nice. Yes, I spent a little extra time shading her... um... "classified materials." But, at the end of it, she looks like a bad-*** cyborg first and foremost. Like, you're first struck with "OMG-badass!" instead of "OMG-hot-chick!"

Nice submissions, it was even harder to choose this month.
My top 3 based on the theme Valentine / Love were:
- Leaf-nin - Her expression and the wilting roses she holds suggest a mysterious background to this portrait.
- MasterElemental1 - Tragic yet romantic, the juxtaposition tells a story of love lost and returned.
- Daveyj3 - Epic battle scene with the couple fighting side by side, risking their lives for the call of duty.
-
These made me laugh out loud. Brilliant costumes and concepts! Congrats to the all the finalists.

Congrats Mystic! Thanks for opening this up to the community CR. Please share the gift arts with us when you get them

Lots of great tips and advice here, thanks! I like how many of these techniques can be applied across different programs.

There's still time for submissions before the deadline! DD posted a thread linking to the official January voting in the all-access part of the forums, so keep an eye out for any announcements. Her signature also provides updated links.

Third guess: my favorite number 3
(Did someone already guess this number? It wasn't on the list CR posted, but there wasn't a post for it.)
Current numbers available: 5 8 - 19 - 20 21 24 26 - 30 31 36 - 41 48 - 51 52 56 57 - 60 64 67 68 - 70 73 76 78 - 80 81 82 85 - 90 94 95 96 97 98 -
Second guess: 66!
Which makes the current list of available numbers:
5 6 8 - 11 14 17 19 - 20 21 24 25 26 29 - 30 31 35 36 - 40 41 45 47 48 - 51 52 53 56 57 59 - 60 63 64 65 67 68 - 70 72 73 75 76 78 - 80 81 82 83 85 - 90 92 94 95 96 97 98 -
Beautiful concept art! Great collection you're putting together

Wow, these are great entries! This was difficult to narrow down. My top three superpower showoffs are:
- Henri - The moment this render captures is like a photograph. Even though we can't see their faces, I can imagine their emotions whether the showoff was intentional or not!
- daveyj3 - While I love the details and movement of the picture, his expression was really what sucked me into the demonstration of his powers. Nice use of the pose from in-game animation.
- syrusb / Liz - From the first glance I could see which powersets she used, and I love the custom Fluffy! Incorporating both fire and dark was a good way to give both sets equal showoff time.
- airhead - This made me laugh, I feel so bad for the guys stuck in the sand! The story behind this sketch is a fun, humorous idea. Sand-surfing as a new travel power please!
- Leaf-nin - The colors you used really pop, and the dark fire looks amazing. Your use of purple highlights along the character's hair and clothes emphasize the fire's glow. He's not someone I'd want to mess with!
- Tartyrsause - Like airhead said, she's got a great outfit. As cute as she looks, she also looks ready to kick butt. Her intense expression says srs business is about to go down.
- DarthDelicious / DeeDee - I wish this piece wasn't in the non-qualified section, but I'm glad the section is here to show the community's talent. Great work on CR's character, DD, and thanks for hosting.
Edit: In the submission thread, submitters were able to describe and/or link to their entries in the Deviantart CityOfHeroes group. Reading airhead's description on DA helped me understand what was happening and how the villains got buried in the sand. Would it be within forum and contest rules to link to each entry for more information about the piece? -
Awesome contest, thanks for hosting! Congrats to the winners!

I love how you've drawn them! You have such great attention to detail and the mirrored pose looks great. Thank you so much!! <3

Shakiya? Where'd that come from?
Quote:I love the show too! Eventhough the graphics are not what we are used to in films (duh (and actually I really don't mind, but I know many do)... the characters and the scripts more than make up for it! I'm totally addicted!
Quote:But.. wait... "loved"? We're in the middle of season 4. It's not over! I didn't even realize it was up to season 4! Eventually I'll knock myself out with a Merlin-a-thon, Arthur and Merlin are too funny to stay away from
Quote:Hehe, I even had to "downdraw" Saira's dress to make it look painted more *giggles*.
Xllusya really is a challenge to colour, with all that lighteffect and her having white colours all around 'n stuff *nods*. -
TO THE DEATH!! Ahaha I love that! She's too cute.
Great gift art, her expression and posture is such a cool mix of laid back and kick-butt-ready. I'm sure Fae will love it! -
OMG how did I miss this?! I loved Merlin!! Those two characters have such great chemistry, and you really captured their expressions!
Saira looks so poised and elegant. The way you shaded the folds of her dress is so realistic, I feel like I could reach out and touch the red satin! (I'm a sucker for soft fabric, especially when I shop.) Looking forward to seeing more of Xllusya. -
Thank you! I'm hoping to finish up the rest soon.
I agree, it was nice to see the different portraits and art styles centered around this theme. Can't wait to see what's next! -
@Chris: There's always a first time :P
I was hoping to ink and scan this in before the jam ended, but I didn't get the time to. Here's the sketch of my chibified ice/ice dominator:
This will eventually be part of collaborative art with Panda AKA Lady LoveDie, inspired by our characters running through some First Ward story arcs. The picture of the sketch was taken from my camera, so please excuse the grainy quality! -
Love your chibis Tem! I really like Gwen's redesigned outfit, her asymmetrical cropped jacket is sweeet. I want one to wear!
-
I like the texture you added :3 Nice work here Lime, keep it up!
