UPDATED!

Heya everyone! Just thought I'd let you all know that this years player meet is going ahead as planned Apologies to everyone for not updating this thread with all the information sooner, but there were some circumstances beyond my control I had to contend with. Anyway, without further ado!

WHEN: Saturday 8th September - Sunday 9th September 2012

WHERE: Global Gaming, Birmingham UK

Prices:
Half day pass - 10am - 5 pm or 5 pm - 11: 30 pm = £7
All day - 10 am till 11:30 pm = £12
All night - 11:45pm till 9:45 am = £12

For those of you who haven't been before, Global Gaming are situated just around the corner from where the old Omega Sektor used to be. There's a map HERE, and they have off street car parking just opposite in the multi-storey carpark. It's within walking distance of the city centre with all the shops and other amenities of a busy city.

GGA only has 15 computers, but they do have space for a further 8 in the main room, and another smaller room which can accommodate 8 more. Anyone wanting to bring their own computer/laptop must make sure it has an Ethernet port as they will have to be physically plugged in to the network as there is no wi-fi.

Looking forward to seeing you all again, and a few new faces this time around. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! I shall be panicking like a small wheeled lunatic from now till the event. Again, apologies for not keeping everyone up to date.

Those of you who would be interested in attending, please let me know either by replying to the thread, in game (@Kallandra), or forum PM Also if you could let me know if you'd be interested in bringing along your own laptop/computer or if you'd be needing one just so I have an idea of numbers

I'll keep a list somewhere...

*It might take me a little longer than usual due to ill health, but I'll do my best!

What would such a meeting entail? Given the mention of computers, we're supposed to play the game, not just meet the other players?

How long would this last?

I have been to other meetings of gaming communities and would maybe consider this one. I would use Easyjet or Ryanair to get there, unfortunately neither has flights to Birmingham from the Netherlands/NW Germany.

I'm not saying I will come, but I would like some more information.

I'll try and get there again. If possible 2nd weekend would be better for (there's a local event I like to get to on the first weekend)

@Roger The meet is both playing and talking not to mention taking the juice

I'll be there, not sure if I'll still be playing CoH then, but it will be nice to see you all again this year.

RogerWilco, the way it works is that an Internet cafe is hired out for the weekend, we play CoH, other games, have food, laugh and joke and so on.

Last year we did a Shadowshard TF... that was interesting to say the least.

We play the game but we also get to shout and throw things at other players to distract each other.

Plus the usual bizarre costume contests and ritual pub crawl in the evening.

I usually run it over a weekend, last year and the year before it was from around 9-10am on the Saturday until around 4-5pm on the Sunday, and the place we used (Global Gaming in Birmingham UK) stayed open all of Saturday night for folks to carry on doing TF's and things throughout the night. We were very lucky that for both events Paragon Studios unexpectedly, and very kindly, offered to pay the costs for hiring out the internet cafe for the entire weekend A few of us got there on the Friday afternoon/evening and met up in the local pub for drinks and social.

It's basically a meet up, a chance to chat to other players and have some fun with a few in-game competitions, and to show off your character creations to other folk. I usually leave it up to what the majority would like to do. Last year we ordered pizza and mostly sat around chatting and running a couple of TFs. I did my first ever BAF which failed horribly.

I know Elizabeth Bathory is in the Netherlands and he flew direct from there to Birmingham for the meet in 2010, so it might be an idea to talk to him with regards to which airline he used and prices etc. (He also helped me organise that very first one)

A lot of us stayed at the nearby Premier Inn.

I've not posted definite details yet as I'm currently looking at alternative internet cafe's for this September as although Global Gaming is okay it's not really big enough for the 30+ people that showed up last year, nor does it have a wheelchair accessible loo. As soon as I've either found a new venue or have sorted out the 'usual' place I will make a post with dates and times. For now though I'm planning either the first or second weekend in September.

Good show !

I'm hoping to be able to make it this year - a variant amount of "faff" has always prevented me attending these things before, but this year looks clear (so far anyway )

I would like to attend this year. I'm a US subscriber without my own computer, does it need a different installation ?

I've expressed interest in previous years, but having to do the trip Norwich->Birmingham on one of the neighbouring weekends for an OU revision thing has got in the way. Having graduated now, I'm free to attend.

I can create or transfer characters across to union/defiant/exalted as required.

One piece of advice I put in previous threads, if you're coming by train, try breaking your journey down into bits, it can be much cheaper. eg singles Norwich to Peterborough and Peterborough to Birmingham and vice versa can be a lot cheaper than a return Norwich-Birmingham if you prebook.

I'll put myself down as a tentative yes, please, although it depends on some family stuff as to whether I can make it in the end. I can bring my own laptop to play on.

Mark me down as a potential. All depends on finances and other RL stuff closer to the time mind; that said I do hope to finally make it to one of these. Also as the way things currently stand would need my own PC (assuming I don't stumble over money and acquire a gaming laptop between now and then which is fairly unlikely it has to be said)

Both clients have the same list of servers now, so I presume it'll be okay If not, don't worry! There's usually plenty of tech support type people that come along that can help out

I can tell you; it no longer matters. I run both my US and EU-based accounts from the European client (the launcher still has them listed as seperate regions even though the game/client is global).

As mentioned, I'm up for this - this is the first year when I'm not bogged down with other stuff, and September looks pretty clear at the moment.

I will need a computer, as mine isn't very portable. Or good, but that's another matter

Oh, hi there.

Seffs may have been wondering when this would be mumbled about. Seffs watches and waits and plots, from the dark spaces between the st- wait. No. 'far as you know.

Aaaanywho. Yeah, I'll be around, 'cause it's just plain fun. Can't bring a computer so I'll have to nab one of the ones at the venue.

In your dreams, I'll still be there with all the days that never came.
And I'll be just a story.
That's ok, we're all stories in the end...
