Reminds me of an American version of Akira. I'm gonna check it out.

So I saw a trailer fo this the other day in front of Contrabnd (entertaining but kind of 'meh'). I thought it kind of looked like a horrible movie, but generally the type of horrible move I end up going to see. Kind of like with Push.

When I saw the trailer it made me think "This is what Akira would look like if done by the guy who made Cloverfield"...

They've already altered the tv trailers for it. They used to show one where the guys were using a leaf blower on some chippie's skirt. They aren't showing that one anymore.

Looked it up, seems not only do they get telekentic abilites from some mysterious.."something" They also gain the ability of flight and invulnerability. It sound like a awesome film if not for one problem.. The whole plot seems to be focused on how they all turn to evil..MEH

That looks amazing!! might be the first movie I see in theaters since LOTR 3. Love a good super powered story of corruption.

I remember seeing a trailer for this a few months ago. I'm not sure why there hasn't been more marketing for it. Looks great, but I worry it won't get many sales without a little more advertisement.

@Rylas

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.

Except that TV spots have been cropping up recently.

Problem is that it's a high school fantasy movie without the prerequisite book series behind it. Even I am Number Four had a series behind it (if only a year) and a Gleek costaring in it. This has pretty much an unknown cast (as in not on ABC Family or CW network shows). Also it has the Cloverfieldesk self documenting shakycam aspect that will turn off some from the get go.

That'll kill it's boxoffice more than lack of advertising.

I have to admit if this wasn't in the "shakeycam" style which I hate, or focused on the dark side of gaining powers I'd like to see it.

If it was in the "normal" film style, and focused less on the darker side of power it would be more like Unbreakable which I happened to have loved and want to see more "super" films made like it.

seems like it, though the initial trailer only shows one of them being evil. I'm kinda expecting a dark ending for this...but with it being PG-13...unsure :\

Not all of the preview has the shaky cam going on. So I'm not sure the whole film will be that way. I think it might be more like District 9 than Cloverfield.

The cam may be steadier than some would assume. I read somewhere they're going to explain the presence of the camera when there's only one character in the scene by saying they're controlling it with their powers.

Ya, it seems like it's going to be a mix of the two styles. Like the scene in the preview where they knock that vehicle off the ledge is shaky cam, but the scene where the kid is confronting the cops looks to be traditional filming.

At least that is what would make sense, unlike District 9 starting out documentary-style and continuing that filming style despite it not making the slightest bit of sense.

A X-Men-ish Cloverfield. I'll pass.

I'm actually holding out some hope it'll be good. It looks like it's got a fair amount to squeeze into the story, what with three guys picking up superpowers, discovering and playing with their powers, one of them going psycho under their nose, the other two attempting to stop their friend, and the psycho one going on a rampage. The storytelling style could make for some awkward edits, but at least from the trailers we're seeing they're willing to kick up the scale as the movie progresses.

is it the dose of reality that bugs you? give any teenagers, anywhere, that kind of power and they will, without fail, cross the line.

Actually it is what bugs me and I'm fully aware of that, I just wish that they would stop making otherwise nice looking 'powers' movies about this type of situation. Suffice to say I want more Unbreakable, and a lot less suddenly sociopathic teenager.

That may be because I grew up watching Adam West and Christopher Reeve more then reading Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns.

Clearly the other two guys are disturbed by their friend's turn to the dark side, so what's the big deal?

If that's the case I may check it out, as long as it doesn't end with all of them going evil, or the exact same way most of these other shakey footage films end. Everyone dies and the footage was stolen from some goverment facility or found n the corpses. Even the good Shakey found footage films end this way.. it's getting a little tired! ( I loved Troll Hunter , but it ended just like Cloverfield, Blair witch, and a dozen others)

I guess I just want a more positive ending to these types of films. The same way I want more positive Hero films.
