Remind Me Again Why...

After 7+ years of playing, sometimes I forget why we asked the Devs to do things the way they exist now. If you've forgotten the age-old logic too, then feel free to ask questions as to why things are the way they are nowadays.

I'll start: Why oh why did we ask the Devs to make Fortunes a manual accept again?

why does rest have any real recharge time? There is no rest exploit that I know of. The only people who would benefit from a 5 second recharge time would be the people who need it - like noobs.

Some people don't like the some of the fortune's buffs...but if you don't mind any of them I think the bird in Pocket D can set it to auto accept...

Roleplayers didn't want you to inflict the Mummy's Curse upon them. They're allergic to it.

At launch, the game was designed to take a long time to proceed through because barely any content existed. Now there are so many readily available remedies to downtime that they probably haven't even considered rest in several years.

That was easy, any other questions?

RPers mainly (i remember one person in particular had a fortune teller character based around it and wanted the choice there), but a few were upset by the miniscule to hit debuff on one of them and some were upset by the speed increase in another.
As usual devs were faced with competing QQing and i think null the gull was a rather elegant solution.

It'd be nice if the default was auto accept though, then the people who want to decline it can goto null. >.> Constantly being assaulted by pop-ups is more annoying than a 3%(?) tohit debuff or tower damage.

So that way I can refuse it because I do not want the thing.

Null the Gull sits on a truck on the ground floor of the red side of Pocket D. He can make you automatically accept or reject Fortunes and some other buffs, so that you do not get asked every time. You can also change it to another way at any time, and even go back to having to manually accept the buff again if you want.

There are a lot of reasons to not want buffs, but Null the Gull makes it all a moot point regarding the manual accept. Talk to the bird and you are all set either way you want to go.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

Why did we get a silly inconvenient bird instead of a much more convenient menu option?

As far as I know, it is a quicker way to get features/options to us because they don't have to code and implement the UI that would be necessary otherwise.

More specifically, they didn't want to take coding/development time away from future issue designs in order to write up a UI for this- it's nowhere as easy as you think. Null the Gull was a quick and dirty solution to what had been a balloning issue among the playerbase.

And as I recall, he "just appeared" in Pocket D one day as a glitch--- a seagull, of all things, with "Null" where the NPC name would have been. So they adapted this odd programming bug into the bird that can fix your problems, which was a record-fast solution to the issue at hand.

Unfortunately, however, he is wily enough to not accept bread, rice, or alka seltzer from the players, so we're stuck with him.

Null has powers, not unlike DJ Zero's own reality-warping Incarnate powers (yes, Mr. Doofy Grin is an Incarnate, like many of us ). Somehow, I think a little rice isn't going to stop him. Stop him up, maybe, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing for the guy stuck cleaning his truck

Already been answered.

Menu option would be nice, but this way we got it faster.

If only the silly inconvenient bird was a bit more convenient, not requiring you to re-talk to him to set another setting. Was a "back" option too difficult in the dialog options?
