Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows
I thought it was at least as good as the first. Not really understanding a lot of the criticisms being leveled at it. The only 'bad' thing about it is that it has more action then the first, but it also had a longer running time. Loved the interplay between Sherlock and Moriarity.

I so want to go see this. Maybe after Christmas.
I'm hoping they have just as many or more of the planned attack sequences that Holmes displayed in the first movie. Those parts were my favorite.

Most of the movie seems to play out as a carefully constructed plan of Holmes and/or his nemesis. The pacing is excellent. The antagonist is portrayed very well.

I really like how Moriarty and Sebastian Moran were both equals to Holmes and Watson in every way. They truly deserved their titles of first and second most dangerous men in London they recieved from the stories. Not many movies play villains this way. Stephen Fry also played an excellant Mycroft! I loved the movie, and my only critique was the big reveal was not as impactful as in the first one.
Enjoyed the movie. The only nitpick I had was when Holmes and Watson started to use steampunk/victorian assault rifles. That whole bit really felt out of place for me. Final battle between Holmes and Moriarty was good, and enjoyed the ending.

I give it a 9/10 and will be picking it up soon as it hits dvd :3
So I just watched this with my dad today and we both agreed it was a great movie.
I think just as good or better than the first one.
Only two minor quibbles I had with this one....
Read below if you want to read my quibbles (SPOILERS below!)
SPOILERS BELOW!!!
I was surprised that they killed off Sherlock's "love interest" (forgot her name )...I thought Sherlock would have saved her somehow.
And then they never showed Sherlock or Holmes getting the "2nd in command" guy (the hired gun/sniper guy).
*shrugs*
Very minor but they're there

I thought it was very good, overall. It did start a little too...in the middle of things I thought, though. There was a distinct impression that I missed a movie somewhere between this and the first one. Definitely hoping for another, though, either way.

I liked it heavily. It had me laughing, it surprised me, and it made me smile a -lot-. The writing is tight, the acting is amazing all around, the direction is fantastic.
Better than the first? Honestly for me they're both very good movies and it comes down to which aspects I liked better. Some things the first movie did better, some the second did better, imho.

Yeah my boss at work watched the movie before I did and said he enjoyed it more than the 1st movie because it was more of an "action movie" compared to the 1st (and he's a very action oriented person ).
He tried not to spoil anything for me but said it wasn't as much of a "wonder how he did x, who did y" type of mystery...it was more of a, "I'm doing x, stop me if you can!" type of movie.
Which I agree with to a point, there was still some mystery/solving to do but not as much as the 1st one I think.
Still a great movie....casting, etc...
RDJ definitely can carry a role...Jude Law works well with RDJ in these movies.

I saw this the other day too. I was really impressed given that sequels are normally nowhere near as good as the original. I pretty much agree with all the points raised so far, including the two criticisms.
Well worth a watch.
EDIT: One thing that did bug me was the casting of Stephen Fry. Although he would have been brilliant in the role in a different version of Sherlock Holmes, he seemed a bit out of place in this one. Still magnificent though.

That's Sebastian Moran and he's not just any hired gun. He is important to what would follow up after the movie, hence the reason.
Never saw the first one, but I did like this one.
My friend pointed it out to me or I would have missed it. Did anyone notice RDJ's "Joker" face after his female-disguise facial makeup got smeared a bit during the fighting?
Warning: Several fairly major spoilers below.
I didn't like this one as much as the first, mostly because it wasn't really a mystery so much as an action flick. I did like both films, but I felt the mystery in the first one wasn't really all that good and was hoping for better this time. Instead there wasn't really a mystery at all, which I found disappointing.
That said, excellent acting all around on the roles of Holmes, Watson, Moriarty and Moran. That was very well done and even though any Holmes fan likely knew the ending the moment they saw the waterfall, it was still very well executed. Moriarty in particular was everything I could have asked for and then some.
I was also disappointed that they killed off Irene Adler, more or less offscreen, and although there is some subtle callback to it later in the film it really doesn't seem to hit Holmes as hard as it should. However, I wasn't all that overwhelmed with Rachel McAdams in the role and felt she was easily the weakest in this great cast, so that might be a big factor in the decision to write her out - even so, it's a shame to see the character of Irene Adler shrugged off. I would have liked to have seen some sign that he hadn't entirely forgotten the love of his life at the end of the film rather than more goofy camouflage antics, but there it is.

Regarding a certain something that's a pretty big spoiler...
*SPACE LEFT*
I suspect Irene may not have died. Conveniently, she's off camera when it happens, and everything else is a flashback relayed by Moriarty who does not strike me as the most reliable of narrators. The whole thing seemed very conspicuous to me, though I'm known for this sort of crazy speculation. However, if there's a third movie, I suspect it may involve finding out what really happened to her.
EDIT: One thing that did bug me was the casting of Stephen Fry. Although he would have been brilliant in the role in a different version of Sherlock Holmes, he seemed a bit out of place in this one. Still magnificent though.

While I run hot and cold with Guy Ritchie, these movies have been slavishly exacting to the source material and for that alone, they are awesome. The fact that it's just a damn fine movie is icing on the cake.
I cheered out loud in the theatre when Moriarty's book showed up. I was alone. I was alone on most of the inside jokes, and that bothered me. I get the feeling that most people haven't read Sherlock Holmes. Ever.

How many Doyle stories have you read with Mycroft in them? I, too, was worried when I heard about the casting but he carried the role nicely.

And in answer to your question, plenty. There were loads of nice little details peppered about the movie which I think only a handful of people got.

So I'm one of the ones that have never read a Sherlock Holmes book...Ever.
But...supposedly my sister-in-law has and she sees the movies as "not even close to the books." Or at least that's the impression I got from her.
She mentioned two points (differences between the books and movies):
1.) Holmes isn't a fighter/boxer like he's depicted in the movies
and
2.) Holmes' love interest (don't remember her name) was never a huge role in the books
Again, no idea myself and maybe I misinterpreted what she was saying but...*shrugs*
Edit:
She hasn't seen the newest movie as far as I'm aware of.

Holmes is an accomplished boxer and a master of a particular martial art in the books. I believe he's supposed to be a decent fencer and handy with a pistol as well.
Irene Adler plays a major role in the story she's in, wherein it's intimated that she leaves a lasting impression on Holmes, at least.

While it's true that Sherlock Holmes fans have greatly inflated Irene Adler's status given the number of stories in which she appears, the same can also be said of Moriarty himself. It's probably one of the earliest modern examples of fans inflating or expanding a romantic relationship in fiction (at least that readily comes to mind, though I imagine it's not completely unique in that respect).
So while the novels themselves may not build up Irene Adler quite to the status she's attained among fans of Sherlock Holmes over the years, I still felt that she should have been better used or else not used at all - her character doesn't really add much to either film, at least in my opinion, which is a shame, and I never really got a sense that she was even close to an intellectual match for Holmes which is her whole claim to fame in the first place apart from being a romantic interest for him.
