Yeah that's what I got out of it as well. The point they were making is that Gordon was a 'wartime' commissioner but now that Gotham is in relative peace regarding crime he needed to be removed and replaced with someone else. (No doubt someone that will allow some of the old corruption to return) And Durraken I'm not so sure that's bad writing as much as it's only a snippet of a larger scene and a lot of perspective is missing.

I'm on the fence on the trailer. I agree you could take out 1 sec of footage and it could be any action movie. I'm definitely there when it opens, but I'm not feeling it based on what they are showing so far.

I actually found this to be a very good thing. I'm tired of movie trailers that include all the best moments, so there's really nothing new to see once you see the actual movie. They know people are going to go in droves to see DKR, so there's no real point in them giving away the good stuff in a trailer. Dish out just enough to tease, and save the rest for those who go to see the movie.

I'll probably see it, but that trailer did nothing for me. I'm a little tired of Nolan's Batman now.

I came her expecting the trailer that showed before Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, but am glad it was a different new trailer. MORE!

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

About the trailer:

The "team" is supposed to be the fictional Gotham Rouges, which I presume is the Batman-universe counterpart to the Steelers (which is why they recruited 10 Steelers players). If you notice, the stands are actually not very full, and that is because they actually asked fans to sit in as extras instead of digitizing them.

I think the movie will attempt to connect to the 99% mentality in the country, which may or may not be a good idea. I could see where a really cool movie could be hiding in that trailer, but if nothing else it will be a top notch action movie. Potential for a lot more though.

Personally, I like the idea of adding a touch of class conflict to the script. I feel as though it'll create an interesting dynamic for the dicotmy of Bruce Wayne (the very ideal of captialism) and Batman (The people's champion). Now, do I want it to devolve into an onscreen debate? Hells no. I do like the tension that could stem from it though.

It might've been more fitting had they gone with the Central City or Keystone Rogues, but I suppose then they would've been glamorizing the villains and we wouldn't get to see the Robin "R."

...
They didn't have a full stadiums worth of fans during filming. But 1:11 in the trailer doesn't look like a full stadium to you?

The Gotham Rogues logo also being a stylized headshot of the Shadow is a nice touch.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

I also noticed on the IMDB page they also got a Former Steelers Coach/Network Pregame talking head to play the coach of the team.

*cough* The Gotham Rogues thing was either created out of the writers, directors, whoever lack of knowledge or because Knights in the title and being the name of the team was too much for someone.

"Can play" is not a binary. It's a float.
There are some pretty low values of "can play" out there.

The trailer looks awesome but I think the Dark Knight Rises will be a different pace than the Dark Knight. The Dark Knight was a great movie but while it started off very strong it seemed to lose momentum at the end. I did not find the final show down with Joker as exciting nor was the introduction of a lesser villain Two-face who was killed off quite quickly very exciting. The new movie seems to be the opposite in pace. It will likely start off slow with Batman in hiatus but Bruce Wayne will have to resurrect Batman and then have a big showdown at the end against Bane.

I think the trailer gave away a little too much. We know Bane will discover the idenity of Batman and he will be captured. Anne Hathaway's goofy speech did not impress me either and she is just another interchangeable brunette Nolan hires after Katie Holmes and the other brunette who took her place in the Dark Knight.

Overall, good trailer though

How anyone can doubt this film after the first two from Nolan is beyond me

I thought the first two were amazing, great interpretations of the Batman mythology as Nolan wanted to present them, and captured a lot what I love about the character. I have no doubts for the next one at all

Saying that it's up against Whedon's Avengers, so it's going to be a slugfest!

Nolan's sense of aesthetic has a way of inspiring anti-confidence.

Given his past cinematic record, what I'm confident about is that there is an extremely high probability I'll like it, a whole lot of other people will like it, and I won't have difficulty recommending it. Not everyone will, but that's not an achievable goal.

I had no idea what he said to Bruce Wayne/Batman...hope that's not like that throughout the whole movie.

From the trailer, "When Gotham is.. ashes, you have my permission to die."

Seemed clear enough to me. Still, if in theaters I have a hard time understanding what Bane is saying I will be a little mad. At least until it comes out to dvd, and I am able to turn on subtitles.

Nice to know Nolan is willing to adjust it, even if only 'slightly'. Might be all that is needed.

Now I wish I could find the Prologue again, so that I could watch it and listen closer to what Bane is saying.

Yeah, I'm especially doubtful considering what huge critical and commercial flops his last two films have been...

A film could enjoy such success and still not entertain me, so, not something I find relevant. What I do find relevant is that aesthetic choices were made in both of his Batman films that I didn't like. Now, both of those films ultimately managed to rise above the things that bothered me, but that's only two movies - Nolan hasn't established enough entertainment credit with me for me to loan him blind faith.

I had trouble understanding him in the prologue but not the trailer, although the prologue was a cam version and not official. I do hope they tweak Bale's voice to dial back the hoarseness, though.
