Nowadays a lot of MMOs get compared to World of Warcraft, because most of them are trying to emulate WoW. I would get new designers in and they would wonder why we had some systems that were NOTHING like what WoW did,
And from this casual (yet sometimes obsessed) player, you wildly succeeded. These were the things I loved about this game (well, that and the character creator). I didn't need to be uber to play and have fun. I didn't have to dedicate hours upon hours (although I sometimes did) to be effective. These are the things that kept me subscribed to this game for eight years, even if I went through long periods where I didn't play.

This community makes me realize just how horrible those for other games are. The SWtOR and D3 forums make me nauseous. And the communication between the devs and the community I'm not sure will ever be matched. Screw WoW. For me CoH will always be the standard by which I judge an MMO, and quite frankly, I'm not sure that any will ever measure up. Thank you for all the fun.

    .
This is actually answered in some of the bonus material in TT. I believe it's in an interview with David Wenham (Faramir). It might be in a "book to screen" doc or something like that, as he says he was also concerned with the changes to Faramir's character from that of the book. The reason that is given is that basically the way they split the movies, Sam and Frodo had no real obstacle to overcome at the end of TT. So Faramir and Osgiliath became that for them.
  3. I'll agree with saying you should just start with book 1 and read them all. The first book is a (relatively) quick read, and will give you some nice backstory and fleshing out of characters and events you don't get from the show. And book 2 deviated enough that some things in book 3 will seem a bit off. And again, as big as the fist 3 books are, I'd guess you'll find yourself getting through them somewhat quickly.

I have friends that hate book 4, and were underwhelmed by 5. I think they're both pretty decent, but I also think they are a bit bloated, and could have been better served by better editing. One of the problems, also, is that because they were originally planned to be one book, Martin ended up dividing the characters, so that many of readers' favorite characters were not in book 4. I think that once the characters in book 5 catch up to those in 4 and the story moves forward as a whole again (about 2/3 of the way through book 5) the writing also became better and the story became more compelling again.

Even without that though, it's also very possible and believable that, once things have been laid out as they have and once things have been done, Anakin is in for a penny, in for a pound.
He dangerously disobeyed Mace's instructions, he helped kill Mace (inadvertently or not), he'd already been strongly compelled to listen to Palpatine and distrust the Jedi (maybe Mace's intent to kill "defenseless" Palpatine sent that distrust over the edge)... What is likely to happen if Anakin doesn't go along with Palpatine full tilt at this point? The Jedi will be against Palpatine (obviously), clearly Anakin wants Palpatine alive and capable of teaching him how to save Padme and the Jedi are going to punish and/or be against Anakin... he was pushed into a corner and now he's basically made his decision.
Really, beyond making a decision... he has resigned himself to the decisions that have basically been made for him now (that evil ******* Palpatine!). He is a defeated shell of a man, now willing to painfully obey whatever is necessary to get what he wants at the end of it.

So, taking Palpatine's words and lead as truth... The Jedi are now the enemy that will prevent Anakin from what he truly, most wants (to save Padme and now his own freedom is at stake as well).
What must be done? Destroy them all. Prevent them from interfering, as they most certainly will attempt to do.
It is extreme, indeed. And I have little to no doubt that Palpatine exerting influence over him in his speech (and as he had been doing for all those years when they'd meet).
That's a pretty well thought out explanation. It would have been great if HC could have actually conveyed any of that through his acting (and I don't think he's a bad actor, overall). His "turning point" was one of the biggest letdowns of the original trilogy for me (I think they are decent, but flawed movies). What should have been one of the biggest emotional points out of the whole series basically turned into "Join the dark side" "Eh... oookay..." I wanted to see that slow build, until Anakin finally hit his breaking point. Be it rage, despair, sadness, fear, any kind of relevant emotional spiral, and the way that scene ended up, Palpatine might as well have just asked him if he wanted to go get a pizza.

To me this is them making one of the huge mistakes that Heroes made. You need normal humans in the show. Not everyone in the show should have some kind of powers, and I think Tara, Jason (so glad he hasn't actually become a were-panther), and Lafayette were the three biggest that shouldn't have been changed. They've already messed up two of those. I haven't read the books, so I'm not sure how big an issue this is in them (aside from knowing that Lafayette dies in the books).

But then again, the show is successful, so what do I know?

This is one point that I just can't agree on. To say this about any from of entertainment is just, I think, not a valid argument. How many bands/musicians don't get popular until 10 or more years into their career? Metallica is a pretty good example here; they have a decently sized, hardcore following, then they release an album more aimed at a mainstream audience, get radio and MTV/media coverage, and turn into one of the biggest bands on the planet. Look at how long it took Lord of the Rings to go from something "nerds" read in their parents' basement to being part of pop culture. Look at Family Guy, which got cancelled, and brought back through word of mouth and DVD sales. Star Trek. If any of these things had gotten the "1 and done" treatment that Firefly got, we wouldn't still be talking about them today.

And as for the order the episodes aired in not having an effect, I think that can relate directly to Avengers. If it had come out first, before the general, non comic book crowd, saw the individual movies, would it have been as successful? Would it have worked if the general viewing audience had no idea who these characters were? Personally, I think one of the reasons it worked so well was because it was built up the right way. Marvel took a chance giving each of those characters their own movies to set the stage, and it paid off in a big way.

I've introduced a lot (in relative terms) of people to Firefly, and it has almost unanimously been met with praise, even from friends who don't like sci-fi. I realize that's just anecdotal evidence, but I think that it does speak to the possibility that Ff could have been more successful given studio support and publicity. I'm not going to argue whether Serenity was better than Avengers or Star Wars, I like them all, and everybody is going to like different things, so that doesn't bother me. But some people () (not you, Oz) have reverse fanboy blinders on when it comes to Firefly.

This has chapter summaries of all the books. It's still a lot of reading, but less than trying to re-read the whole series.
  11. I've always wanted to try making a General Tso's pizza, using the GT sauce, and then chicken and sesame seeds as toppings. I'm not quite sure if it would work or not. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to trying it.

There is a place near me that has a chili cheesedog pizza. It has chili paste for sauce, and then onions, hotdogs, and french fries as toppings. It was so out there I had to try it, and it was actually really good.

I believe in one of the documentaries they say that Frodo and Sam needed an obstacle at the end of the movie, and that was the reason for the change in Faramir (which I hated as well). I also think (just my opinion) that it was done to make Aragorn seem more exceptional in his resistance to the ring.

I was also not a big fan of the elves at Helm's Deep, especially because one of the reasons seemed to be that they needed some sort of impact by killing off a character, but since none of the mains could die they needed a second tier character to off.

But the change that annoyed me the most was Merry and Pippin tricking the Ents into helping. The Ents were ancient and wise, and realized that they would eventually be affected by the events going on. They weren't tricked by someone saying, "Hey, let's go left instead of right!"

All in all, though, I loved the movies, and can't wait for the next two. I would have liked to see what DelTorro would have done with them, but I'm never going to complain about having PJ return to Middle Earth.
  15. If you click on the "Rogues Gallery" link at the bottom of the page it takes you to a screen with shots of the characters each of those skits are based on.

    Gary Oldman's is creepily awesome.

Unfortunately, I think it had a good majority of them. Don't get me wrong, it's a great movie, and I still highly recommend watching it, but I think it's one where having a less inclusive trailer would have made it more enjoyable for me.

So according to this theory, having sex with someone would be the same as remembering having sex with that person. Just because it may "technically" be the same data doesn't make it the same experience. There are multiple other factors involved. That would be like saying watching a video of a rock concert is the same as going to see it live. All the audio/visual data may be the same, but there's a world of difference, and I don't just mean the other senses that can't be replicated through video.

  20. It's amazing that people are complaining about getting something for nothing. It really says something when the devs give us something they didn't need to, and people cry that it's not enough, or not impressive enough.

I think this is great. I've got at least one character concept this will work for, as I didn't feel much like grinding out Vanguard Merits after doing it on other characters already. Thanks Devs!

Actually, neither of these statements is true. She's just relying on her usual forum tactic of refusing to believe that any opinion but hers is correct, and padding her post count. Being helpful to you is the last thing on her mind. And it's also amazingly hypocritical that she's arguing with anyone saying they don't have a right to say how things should be...
  22. Thanks for the input everyone. I've just been using the vet reward attacks, so I think I'll try dropping provoke in favor of taking Leadership and Fighting.

To take this in another direction, I've been reading through the bind and macro info, but am still relatively new to it. Does anyone know if there is a way to create a macro to cast Repair on a specific bot? Either by name, or just by something like "tier 1, bot 1?"
  23. Also, dropping Repair wouldn't allow me to take Maneuvers, as I'd still have four pools already. The only option I can see that would allow me to take both would be to drop Provoke, which would free up a pool choice.
  24. Well, maybe what I'll do then is drop Provoke and Resuscitate and take both.
