I just want to know when BBC America is going to start rerunning some of those older ones?

Like they haven't run them so much even NEW TVs come with burn-in of the Doctor Who logo on them...

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Terrific news! Troughton was brilliant and is so under-appreciated.

The only reason Troughton is under-appreciated is because of the dearth of surviving episodes.

Sad that it's another episode from arguably Troughton's worst story- BUT now there's hope the BBC will animate the remaining 2 missing parts and release the "complete" story on DVD.

(I'm seriously Hoping that next year's release of "The Reign of Terror" with 2 animated episodes does well enough in sales that the BBC will plan other reconstructions. I know they commissioned a 2nd animation other than Reign but no idea what it is.. my guess.. Ice Warriors)

I do believe that LoT would approve.

Here in good old Blighty the BBC NEVER shows any of the older Dr Who episodes so I sadly say that BBC America is just as unlikely to show them.

Thats because no one was bothering to save episodes or anything back then. It is mainly a matter of luck to find a complete episode. ::Sigh:: a shame to because from the episodes of his I've seen they where good.

Oh Netflix has a bunch of old troughton episodes you can stream.

Galaxy 4! Finally a surviving episode! That's a brilliant find!
And Episode 2 of Underwater Menace? That might put the story into possible animated reconstruction territory!

It's great to see after all these years new episodes still pop up. Gives me hope for episode 4 of The Tenth Planet (Hartnell's last episode).

I was sad when PBS stopped showing them over here (which was coincidentally about the time I stopped watching PBS). I barely got to see any of Sly McCoy's Doctor. And Netflix doesn't stream enough of the old stuff.

Great news! I love those older episodes!

When YTV started here years ago, they played every series that was available. I *so* regret not recording them all.

And one that apparently took the lion's share of that season's budget, too.

The good news is that the episode is the earliest intact one from Troughton's tenure, so we can finally see how he took over from Hartnell and not only made the role his own but also established that it was possible for the Doctor to be played by multiple actors.

In this sneak peek, Troughton shows how his performance could differentiate itself, even in the face of a scenery-chewing mad scientist villain.

Troughton "hit the ground running" as it were from the first few minutes of "The Power of the Daleks" and really established his Doctor from the get go.

The biggest problem is that Troughtons mastery of the role was rooted in his physical performance- his facial expressions and his body movements. Hopefully they will animate the whole story so we can see his 'evolution' as the Doctor in the beginning.

I had No idea they were recovering TV signals from space.. I SERIOUSLY hope they can continue to recover them... Its the only way we'll ever get "The Dalek Masterplan" back...

Er, did you check the date on that article?

But this is great news indeed! Not long ago I was looking down that list and sighing... this gives me hope for the nerdy future.

The problem is that we don't have much more than a few minutes of six-part "The Power of the Daleks". Troughton's physicality and facial expressions make a tremendous first impression, but his performance only gets better when judged across an entire storyline - and there isn't a single fully intact one in his first series. We don't get to see Troughton in full until "The Tomb of the Cybermen" and "The Mind Robber", which are classics.

We can only hope. Meanwhile, doesn't this sound almost like something from Doctor Who itself?

Sorry TG, I meant to say if you listen to the BBC Audio Narrated story- even in just audio Troughton comes across very strongly from episode 1.

(prays for the day he can watch every story from "An Unearthly Child" to "Survival" in a row....)

Ah, I see, so to speak. I've never listened to the audio releases of the Troughton missing serials (and I believe even those are missing ones).

Actually no, they have ALL the missing Troughton and Hartnell stories as Audios now. The narrations are fantastic (done by the surviving actors, the majority of Troughton's are done by Frazier Hines but a couple by Anneke Wills. Hartnells are split pretty evenly among William Russell, Peter Purves and a couple by Maureen O'Brien).

They are all available as MP3 Downloads, check BN or Amazon.

That's fascinating - thanks for the information. My familiarity with the Second Doctor first came from the novelizations of the classic serials, so there's a precedent for having to use imagination recreating them (not to mention the bonus of the lack of distraction by the cheap SFX).

I'm currently listening to the missing stories on Audio, but I'm also using the Lost in Time Box set that brings together a bunch of odd episodes they have from missing serials. They have three episodes of the Dalek's Master Plan for instance, which I watched in place of listening to their audio.
