Uh yeah I am old player
Mercy/Atlas got revamped when i20 went live, so now the starting content in Mercy takes place on the bottom half of the map.

welcome back, was wondering what you were up to.
So I been away for 6th months [buy paying my VIP amounts anyways]
So I logged int to mercy today briefly to do a mission and found out that I was in the middle of a Longbow base now. WTF? So not I have the painful task of begging for a recap of the last couple issues so I have some ideas what the Hades is going on. |
Warhammer, Magic, PS3 Games, I have week off coming up so I get some game time in, I hoping to get a couple hours in a week to keep my hand in it. Everything is burst with me.

Thats an example of the new phasing tech, which is rather good I think. It allows the appearance of a zone and contacts to vary based upon the individual or team leader. In this case Longbow have made an attack on the Isles but there are a few missions you can do to push them back and then they will no longer be seen. All very clever
This is a song about a super hero named Tony. Its called Tony's theme.

Yup. Longbow got their grubby little mitts on Fort Darwin. I'm pretty sure that a private mercenary company invading a sovereign nation is pretty illegal, but never mind, they're heroes!

People still play Magic? Miss oldschool M:tG. From what I've seen, it just doesn't feel the same anymore. Can't find a good game 'round these parts anyway...or afford to get a new deck together that's any good, really.

Are you sure they're heroes? My heroes just love missions were they can finally beat up those longbow thugs that somehow always flag as friendly (very high mag confuse?).
We only get to fight the ones who become vigilantes - the normal Longbow are our allies

Not true. In one of the vanguard arc you fight some legit longbow guys.
Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.
No they're not.
They're under Ms. Liberty's orders to investigate Vanguard. You are attacking a legitimate Longbow operation just to learn what they've learned about the Rogue Vanguard Sword Division.
You are entirely unprovoked. You are committing, essentially, a war crime, because Gaussian wants to keep the situation under wraps and save his bacon.
Now, when you fight Sefu Tendaji, that's because of a misunderstanding. They think YOU'RE with the Rogue Vanguard, so they try to arrest you. The Listening Post, however, is a legitimate Longbow operation. No vigilantism involved.

Unfortunately, since the Rogue Isles are not a member of any international political or trading bloc (UN, OPEC, etc.), they have no one to appeal to in order to protect their sovereignty. Were the Rogue Isles a member nation of the United Nations, for example, they could appeal to that body to impose sanctions on the United States for their unprovoked incursion.

But the Rogue Isles have no allies, and holds itself apart from international politics (aside from the occasional invasion of U.S. soil to liberate superpowered political prisoners from Ziggursky Penitentiary). With no member body to appeal to, and no friends, the Rogue Isles have no influence with which to fight the Longbow incursion, so they must use the Arachnos paramilitary (some would say "terrorist") organization and the liberated SPPP to protect themselves.
Were Longbow to try something similar in Pakistan, Iran or Korea, they would get slapped down hard.
New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Did they retcon the Etoile Isles being part of the UN?
Issue 23: All your base are belong to us?
I know they've been recognized by the UN - don't think they are a member though.

Lord Recluse may decline help because he's all about anarchy and survival of the fittest. But that doesn't mean that Longbow has proven themselves as anything but an international terrorist conspiracy. No matter how many allies the Rogue Isles may or may not have.

This is kind of a tangent, but y'know, I've always noticed that the social-Darwinist-only-the-strong-survive types are the first to whine when people gang up on them. What, co-operation and safety in numbers aren't viable survival strategies anymore? Guess we'd better go and tell all those pride/pack/herd/school/flock/swarm/colony/etc. animals, fish, birds and insects that they're doing it wrong. You go first- why don't you try it on that batch of marching army ants over there? Lord Recluse may decline help because he's all about anarchy and survival of the fittest. |
That being said, yeah, the Longbow are dicks. Although Recluse might find that he had fewer problems with them if he could just get Statesman (or Reichsmann or Tyrant or whoever- not like there's any shortage of the guy to choose from) to just agree to measure things and be done with it instead of trying to blow up Paragon City every two weeks -_-;

Not to mention, were this the real world, even WITHOUT an appeal from Recluse there'd be plenty of complaints and offers of support for the Isles in response to Longbow setting up shop there uninvited (and taking territory from a sovereign nation, and attacking its citizens - as of this last issue, none of us are forced to start as broken out of the Zig any more, after all, but make a choice to relocate.)

I could see quite a bit of trade and support (given real-world politics at this point, which, yeah, I know the timelines are not the same) going *both* ways with China, N. Korea, Iran, Venezuela (oil!) Russia... as well as extranational groups. They have supplies, the Isles have a concentration of superpowered beings and advanced tech.
Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.
Galaxy is gone? New opening is interesting, the new interface for the character builder is cool. I love the Moral choice thing. I miss Breakout already.
