I did it the hard way a long time ago... adding filler toons to get the extra bonuses with members. Back then there was nothing to spend influence on, so there was no reason to not run in supergroup mode once you could afford your SO's. When I moved servers, one of the things i was dreading was starting over with prestige. Then I saw what the Crazy 88's were doing burning influence to become the SG prestiege leaders (and to be entertaining to us all with thier cavalier attitudes) and it dawned on me there's a really easy fix to this problem.

That said, even though I calculated how much influence was needed and cashed it in, I still haven't placed all the teleports in my base. I find with all the teleports available outside of the SG base these days, i never use the base for travel anymore.

I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

I will fully admit to utilizing the farming/self-email technique. I use my level 50 Hero to farm INF by running Incarnate Trials. I then e-mail the INF to myself, claim it with one of my Villian toons (all of which are in the same 1-player SG) and exchange it for PRE.

So basically, the base of my Villian SG has been financed almost exclusively by a Hero.

What is an SG other than a glorified "Friends" list? Being in an SG gives us access to a base but with the ferries/helicopter/trains now all connected, what is a base other than a glorified storage bin?

If you ever come to redside Guardian, let me know.

Personally I went for the burn lots of influence route in my Solo-SG (what can I say, I got caught up in the Crazy88s mania).

I'm just starting a solo lair on Protector; this thread has been very encouraging.

Iron, this is Merc. Yea, still lurking around and play a tad, but much earlier. I did the heal badge on red side for my VG easy enough. A MM with pet healing ability (robotics in my case) can generate healing that counts for the heal badge. Makes it easy enough to generate points solo. Nice when your own abilities and your pet abilities count.

And to teh original question, I built my VG base almost completely solo. Formed from old friends from other games, but they have all but gone off, so it is practically a solo base now, and it is by no means small. If i ever find peopel who need a group, the base was meant to be used, but not found many peopel to try to add into it.

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...126358&page=67 is where you can find teh most recent update I posted on it, and it has gotten even bigger since then.

The crazy 88s mania is SPREADING! MWA HA HAH!!!

Vitality: I think I still have a quarter billion in the new-base matching fund. Your 50 million gets our 250 million. If you want to make 50 million, get a Hero or Villain Merit and trade it in for one of several recipes - which sell for considerably more crafted. The three "standards" I know of are Kinetic Combat D/E and D/R at level 35, and Performance Shifter Chance for Endurance at level 21,but do your own research.

Send a tell to @Boltcutter and I'll email you the inf.

Sykoholic: What is a character in a costume but a glorified stick figure?

There are practical advantages. You can meet friends-of-friends as your SG grows. SG's are useful for getting to Dark Astoria and Terra Volta. If you're running a lot of zones in a hurry the SG porter adds to the number of ways to get back from weird corners of the world. The storage is frequently VERY handy.

But I've seen, and helped fund, a lot of bases that were quite frankly works of art. Did the devs plan that? Maybe not. But if you give people tools and spare time, they do things that are unexpected and delightful with them.

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

On the heels of that question, how do I get my alts as part of my solo SG? Do I have to invite someone else and have them invite the alt or is there another way?

You have to invite a second account who then invites all your alts. If you are paranoid, set access to all your storage way high and leave the invited account at the lowest level.

I have done this for several others here on the forums. What server?

I am not at home right now, but when I get on in a couple of hours, I would be happy to invite your alts to your SG. Just let me know.

If your computer can handle running two instances of the game at a time, then you can get a free account and then spend at least $5 on that account to get the account to Reward Tier 2, when allows toons on that account to join SGs and to invite others to SGs.

Then log on with a member of your SG on your main account and log on a toon with the new account. It's a little easier if the two toons are in the same area.

With your main, click on the premium toon and Invite to SG.

Alt-tab over to the premium toon and accept the invite.

Then Quit to Character Select on your main account and log on with any alt that needs to get into your SG. Have the premium toon invite them.

It's actually easier than it seems here Just a little convoluted to explain.

Note: this won't work on Exalted, unless your second account is a paying VIP account, since only VIP's are allowed on the "U! No allw here!" server.

If you're on Exalted or if your computer can't run multiple CoH instances or if you don't want to spend $5 to raise the premium account to Tier 2, then go with AdAstra. I can vouch for her since she has helped me get plenty of alts into my solo SG.

Heh, sounds like the old way to move stuff between characters.

I am a single person with an SG/Base. It's just me and my alts...

I have teleporters to every hero zone I can have a port for, empowerment station, 18 storage containers, enough power and control to run it all and quite a bit of decoration going on.

Of course... I have also been playing on and off for many years.

I can say it started out small... just getting all your characters into the sg should be enough prestige to get you a basic base with 1 teleporter (which u can just swap the beacon each time you need to), a workshop with maybe an empowerment station and 1 storage, an oversight center with a combo power/control unit and another storage, and a basic med bay with a res ring.

You either need two accounts or another player to help. There is no way to directly invite characters on the same account.

Hopefully this is somewhere on the long list of 'todo-s' though :-/

Ye olde historical "No": It's been like this since Issue 6, and the devs had originally said something along the lines of "it's a massively MULTIPLAYER online game, and we'd rather the players socialized and pooled their resources rather than everybody having one [or more] solo SGs and bases."

The more things change, the more they "Maybe": On the other hand, it's one of the most frequently requested quality-of-life features in this forum, and those were also the same devs who said things like "you don't need 'real numbers' to have fun with this game!" -- but we got those, didn't we?

VIP and f2p and "A New Day Dawns" and all that, so "Yes": On the OTHER other hand, now that base ownership is strictly a VIP perk, and because money talks, they might want to give the paying customers what we want most!

30 level 50's: 12 scrappers, 7 other random melee types, 11 blaster/blapper/support squishies, two accounts, and a TON of altitis since 4/28/04

well, an easy work around for the second account to invite is create a second account buy $5 in points which will get you a Token which Will unlock SG access and use that to invite in the alts

Yes it is...I have a personal base i did just that.

And Teleporters....i have them all....soon i will have the hacked ones as they are called....which is going to make my base even more fun...as i will have areas that once had teleporters that i wont need anymore...thus i will make those places into other things.

Hah, those look like a pair of space ships right there on the bottom left!

I just wanted to mention that it's entirely possible that there are SG's out there that are willing to coalition with younger SG's that are in need of things like porters. I have one such coalition on my oldest SG as the SG leader of the other group/solo was polite enough to ask while we were teaming and seemed to love my base layout.

You could make it look like one big one if you have them overlap. My main base has two Orbits of Control back-to-back and overlapping.

Yep. I have several coalitions for that purpose. I have 3 SG's on Infinity with full sets of teleporters in each.

I am currently running an effective one person SG. I started it in lateDecember. My wife has 3 alts in it. She does not (or rarely) runs them. Thats the whole roster. I have been soloing on this character since late december, and have generated enough prestige to set up a control room and power center for the base. I will soon lay in the hospital and my first porters.

don't forget that the first 15(?) toons in an SG give a prestige bonus that can get your base a good starting boost. unless they've changed that :-/
