No call button for TF contacts?

I have noticed this twice now today. I did a Faathim the Kind TF and now a Statesman TF and I notice there is no call button on the contacts.

Is this a bug?

If I recall, only the team leader sees the button on some TFs. If you were the team leader, I have no other ideas..

I am the team leader, thats whats odd.

Faathim doesn't get a call button. He never has. Statesman doesn't get a call button because they're all fairly close there and I guess the devs figured nobody would want to call him for whatever dumb reason.

Most TFs grant the call button after one or two missions. (Keep in mind a lot of TFs have linked missions so it's not necessarily after one or two objectives, but actively after one or two DEBRIEFINGS.)

TF contacts do mostly give their phone numbers, but Faathim apparently can't get anyone to build him some cell towers on the Chantry. Yes, it is very annoying.

I wouldn't want to be building cell towers out in the shards, so I can't really blame them.

As a godlike being (granted, he's imprisoned) in a magical dimension working with people who have all kinds of superpowers, you'd think it wouldn't actually be very difficult for someone to rig him some kind of long-range communication. I would personally pitch in, both inf and labor, for the Paragon Phone Company to build some towers out there.

And yet I can ring my other contacts *from* the Chantry without any issues...

Yeah. That's weird, I'll grant you. Dang you, inexplicable dead zones!!!

I would think someone as powerful as Faathim could simply be keeping an 'open link' with you mentally, or some such thing. Given all the other fantastical stuff you see in the Shard... why not?

And yet, somehow, a pathetic and spudly ghost (Alastor) manages to do what Faathim can't.

In his defense, Faathim is imprisoned by some pretty potent magic.

That said, it's quite lame from a quality of life standpoint.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

True enough about the magical imprisonment for Faathim. I'd completely forgotten about that.

Bah, I still recall how tedious it was to have to run back and forth, or stand and wait on someone else to do so between missions. Quality of life should trump lore in some cases as long as it's done in a believable and unobtrusive manner.

Actually the answer is that he's a jerk. During the task force he demonstrates the ability to communicate telepathically with Azuria so he's clearly capable of talking to you telepathically, he just prefers to make you walk.

I was the team leader for the Faathim and I hated the lack of a "phone." Luckily that character has teleport so I was probably the best choice for those long distances but that trip between the last two missions - Storm Palace to the Chantry and back - was a ... umm... definite oversight that needs fixing. Call it the mental link he is obviously capable of establishing but give us a phone!

Just an aside, I find it comical that the signature characters who act as contacts have cell phones.

Can you imagine Black Scorpion pulling out a hot pink cell phone with little charms dangling from it? Or Ghost Widow pulling out an old 1980s style brick of a cell phone.

I mean, someone like Positron would have it built into his suit I'm sure. Maybe BS too, but still...

And Numina's a ghost... what's up with that!?

Also, if Faatham had a cell phone it would be fricken hueg liek Xbox. Just sayin...

Now I will be picturing what every contacts cells would look like. I can't help but chuckle thinking of someone like Statesman pulling out a Hello Kitty bedazzled cell. Which would explain why he doesn't have a call option for his TF.

Also... Synapse as the Verizon guy! "Can you hear me now?" *Super Speeds to next location* "Can you hear my now?" rinse, repeat, infinity LOL

Think about Imperious wrestling with his cell phone and always being called a witch. I wonder how many he went through before he realized that there wasn't really a group of musicians trapped in this tiny blinking box.

Faathim: playername, I have come to feel that I can trust you. Here, have this stone that is psionimystically linked to a stone i hold. Just say the word engraved in it while holding the stone and we may speak.
*hands player a smooth ovoid stone with "poot" scratched on one side*
Player: Where's your stone?
Faathim: (looking uncomfortable) I am imprisoned, and must conceal my secrets from my jailers. It is... well hidden. Please, inquire no more about it.

Lord Recluse never gives you his digits, but that I understand (we're not worthy). Still a pain gameplay-wise. It's a shame that the most effective (that is, speedy) way to do Faathim or LR is to have someone contact sit some, or in the case of Faathim, all of it.

I nearly spit my coffee out thinking about the NPC's cellphones. Thanks guys.

And Synapse is the Verizon guy. I can see it now, haha.

Back on topic, since Faathim has been shown to be able to contact Azuria, then yes, there's no reason he cannot also focus enough of his power, bound or not, to contact the TF leader.

One long-lived fantasy story hook is that imprisonments can, and often do, weaken over time, leaving little breaks in the armor so to speak. You can't tell me someone like Faathim hasn't spent years devoted to digging around at the magic binding him to find a weak spot. He'd be foolish not to at least try.

Make it a weak mental signal, make it disjointed images that flash through your mind, but just make us not have to fly across the SS over and over. Time is of the essence here, is it not. ^_^ Saving the world and all that jazz...

edit: seriously... stupid word filter

Well, when you're in a magical prison you don't have a magical pay phone to make a magical 5-minute call.

That... is just crappy writing. Going to add this to the list of "Why the Shards needs a revamp".

And Recluse is too busy to accept calls, despite the wide variety of mission locations.
