The concept of a psychic melee character is probably best embodied by Psylocke. Psychic weaponry that possibly uses the same mechanics as the demon summoning whip attacks (no redraw no actual customizable weapon model) would be the ideal. There are also characters who fight using "psychic armor" a sort of telekinetic shell that protects and adds some oomph! to their melee hits. It would probably be a set of mixed psi and smashing damage (possibly some lethal as well) with some light control. Drain Psyche and Psychic Shockwave would probably be part of it in some form as well.

Yea we really do have ALOT of melee atm. Time for more control sets IMO. ^_^
I always thought WP was designed to be a low graphic set, as people couldn't get over the idea of their hero having glows (when really, I never once thought my Regen characters were really glowing green their whole time or my SR characters had a blue glow about them).

I always thought WP was basically the PSI Armor myself (the description gives off the idea of natural human with no powers...but then when has a natural human with no powers, regened more than REGEN, took bullets to the face...ect...ect), and I realize the only reason people want PSI melee is because of PSI damage.

After all, I've seen people say "You concept doesn't work, Kin Melee doesn't do PSI damage. Only Psi damage can be Psi Melee." So I can see the want for it. Also it is a different type of damage.

It was also voted ahead of people's want for a Street Justice set, and we still don't have it.

That's also not counting Beam Rifle. I know it doesn't have a lot of love on the forums, but disintegration is a brand new mechanic for ranged damage in addition to swap ammo in DP.

On the subject of WP, I've never really seen it as a set for 'natural' characters mainly because of RTTC which makes no sense at all for a normal person. SR (I dodge stuff), Shields (I block stuff), Inv (I am, however, wearing full body armor. I am not a moron!) all work better (mechanically) for the normal person concept.

Ah yes, that too! I forgot about it because I didn't purchase it (I knew I'd never use it due tothe stand and shoot animations that make me get bored of AR and Archery).

But has there been no love for it on the forums? I recall seeing love for it on the forms and lots of love for it in game.

Well, that might just go into looking at it's actual ingame mechanics.

I can easily see someone saying WP is just INV with different mechanics.

Though I've used WP for the Regen/SR hybrid, by softcapping defenses and basically RPing it as a mixture of both.

Still, I'd rather see an actual Positional Defense/Regen/Clickie Heal set to fit that concept (Ninjitsu could do it, but I want it on a Scrapper)

I like it, and there is some pro for it, but most of what I have seen is complaints from blasters that it kills single targets too fast for disintegration to spread, and from corruptor/defenders that it is too single target.

But a ghostbusters super team should melt all kinds of enemies.

I don't believe 'Psi Armor' was ever one of the options in that poll. It was Shields, Willpower, Growth, Forcefield and Vibration if I recall correctly.

As for psi melee/armor; while I'd love a new melee set like a Green Lantern/Necrid-esque manifestation set that had various 'smash' and 'cut' attacks with customized options for each type...I just think there are many cover customizations to make your own psi melee...

Dark Melee: is very much a touch/drain set that can be colored to look like alot of things and the control fear/-ToHit works thematically as messing with the foe's head.

Kinetic Melee: Telekinetic melee if colored pink. I usually don't play sets multiple times on different characters but I had to. KM is my Telekinetic Melee colored bright pink/purple, my Tai Chi Chuan martial arts palm thrust set using dark theme colored yellow (you can barely see the FX), my Air Manipulation using bright theme colored medium grey (and Water Manipulation when I get around to advancing his concept story to manipulate both), and my Pixy Force set colored all bright random colors.

Claws: like said with the vanguard blades, this can be your Psylocke theme psi melee.

Katana/Dual Blades: same as claws. Give yourself the glowing hands combat aura + vanguard blade (I actually have this for my Kat user and you can't even see the blade hilt if you color it right).

Fire/Ice melee: I can really see Fire melee working as surging mental energy burning from your aura. Not sure about Ice. Freezing touch, Ice Patch and Frozen Aura wouldn't look right. Skip the breaths for both, I'd say.

And if ever the devs make a new armor set, they really need to make something like my Bone Armor idea.

There's no set like it and it'd just look plain cool

I suggest Poison Blast (with a mix of Zombie-type of theme).

You get the typical range "spits and pukes" and a short range melee puke/bite. Not sure what the tier 9 power would be like but my idea is to add Melee Position Defense (and some AoE defense) as secondary effect because Poison Blast will require more melee-range gameplay.


So whenever some of your Poison Blast hits, you get a small bonus to Melee defense/AoE defense for a short duration. Think of it as Broadsword's Parry but a range version.


I want Poison Blast set to be similar to Dominator Earth Assault. Melee oriented. This will make /Poison more appealing as its Venomous Gas is pbaoe and the splash effects work better when mobs surround you.


What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Actually, Bo/staff *wasn't* an option in that old poll and I remember because people complained up and down that it wasn't included yet a set like 'Electric Hammer' was on there.

That reminds me. Stretching was one of the attack set options. I believe it was Psionic Weaponry, Dual Blades, Street Fighting, Electric Hammer, Stretching and Energy Blade.

I voted Psi Weaponry and Energy Blade.

I am really impressed with the Energy Aura revamp, Kinetic Melee, Dual Blades, Shield Defense, and Street Justice.

I am not so impressed by Dual Pistols and Beam Rifle.

Time is nice.

Maybe other sets are in there that are new, I don't know too well since I'm still new to the game, but I can pick out most of the ones that are new or had a recent revamp by how much more engaging their sets are compared to the older stuff...

Blasters, Dominators, and MMs have very few choices for one of their two main sets. Pretty sure all of the powerlists for melee ATs require scrolling to see all the choices involved.

We know of two more melee sets in the works, I haven't heard anything about other new non-melee sets.

Hence, my comment.

Before dual blades came out, NCSoft had a survey asking people what melee sets they'd like to see. Dual blades won over psionic mele (or similar that was offered).

I did something similar with a Dom. Gravity/Energy...all colored pink/purple. /Energy seemed the better choice IMO than /Psi from a pure "kinetics" standpoint. The melee attacks could be explained by channeling TK power through contact (punching the guy). And of course there's the blasts that can send guys flying via KB. Kinda screams "TK" to me. Of course...Singy is "The sum totality of my telekinetic powers!"

i'm just disappointed that even after years of lobbying by many players it certainly seems like Carp Armor and Carp Melee are dead in the water, as in CoH will probably go belly-up before those sets are slapped into our hands, and that just stinks.
