New season of Castle starts tonight!

So I started the whole Castle show around late July from Netflix (my mom had total knee replacement surgery and remembered seeing a Castle promo on youtube that I think one of you guys/gals placed here (the one where Nathan Filion dressed up as Malcolm Reynolds for Halloween)).

Netflix had them on DVD so watched the first 4 episodes or so by myself (while dad and mom were in hospital) and thought they were pretty good/decent. Went to see my mom after surgery (everything went well ) and told them about it.

So once she got home in the last week or so of July we watched 'em and they were hooked as well; quite surprising that my mom really likes the show too because she doesn't usually do "crime dramas" because they don't end on a happy note for the most part.

So we watched and rushed through all 3 seasons of Castle in about 2 months. Now the new season starts tonight

Just a reminder that's all!

P.S. Oh and Harry's Law starts Wed. night too! Yet another good show I think.

P.P.S. While I'm talking about TV shows, New Girl looks like a possibility....maybe that's cause I like Zooey....mmm...Zooey.

Looking forward to new Castle as well. Stupid end of season cliff hangers. how many times can they leave Beckett in a life or death situation anyway?

Yeah, I'm calling "bullet-proof vest/blood pack/using Beckett as bait for the REAL killer" scenario.

That's what I'm guessing as well.

From what the writers have said, nope- she was truly shot- may be wearing a vest. From everything I've heard this may be a season of "conflicts". The first conflict being the new captain (Sherry Palmer from 24). She's former IA, no nonense- so Castle having an "All access" pass is about to come to a screeching halt! Montgomery had good reason to keep Castle around, as a distraction for Beckett- Captain Gates, well, think just the opposite.

The other conflict I know about I didn't see coming- Alexis vs Beckett. Alexis changes her tune about Beckett this year- she thinks Beckett is playing with her dad and that's not fair to him. But the big reason for her anger toward Kate is the fact that just Beckett being in her dad's life is putting him in danger. Worse- he's actively "jumping in front of the bullet" for Kate and Alexis doesn't think anything is worth losing her dad.

All in all I can't wait!! FYI, episode 3 or 4 is a Superhero themed episode

Ya, I'm not one for cop/crime shows either. But Castle got me. Along with the remake of Hawaii 5-0, though that may be because of the hawtsome Grace Park.

Also, H5-0 is starting up again tonight as well.

Awesome! Too bad I have to work as it's one of 3 or 4 shows left on tv I go out of my way to watch when they're actually on.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

The only thing that bums me about the new season is the likelihood of not having Molly aka Alexis around as much since she is going off to college on the West Coast, midseason. I enjoyed seeing the close Father/Daughter relationship.

Two and a Half Men also returns tonight, minus Sheen and plus Kutcher. Be interesting to see if it's good or a train wreck.

Good episode.

However they've already set up the monkey wrench to throw into their relationship, that Castle now has the job to keep Kate away from the case. Considering how their feelings bungee toward and away from each other over the years, the revelation that Castle is involved in keeping this covered up will be devastating, even though by doing it is keeping her safe.

Predictable but necessary - we all know that shows like this have to keep their UST unresolved, apparently. That said, at least they had the decency to have Beckett *also* be hiding something this time around.

I think they leave these things unrequited because they just don't know where to take the characters afterwards. So they learn to write those plots and keep them going long after any normal person would have gone insane in that kind of relationship. A good writer should be able to keep the drama going even if their characters fall in love, get married, etc. They just never learn to write those plots.

TV learned the lesson of 'Moonlighting' a long time ago, and I don't think anyone has ever made that mistake since.

The problem isn't being able to keep the drama going, it's the change in dynamic between the characters which can alienate a lot of existing viewers and by the point in the show that it happens it's usually tough to attract new viewers to replace them.

Not to mention how much it upsets all the shippers.

I get that. I'm just always disappointed because no tv shows are willing to break the mold. So we get season after season of watching the leads balk. It eventually sours me on shows.

The New Adventures of Superman tried it too and that all went pretty downhill afterwards. I think it's a side-effect of trying to force the characters into keeping their old dynamic, which is rarely ever possible once they're together.

Ultimately, it's a big risk to try it, which is why most of the time they just let all the peripheral characters get together and have the leads stumble through a series of increasingly bad relationships with extras until the show comes to an end.

From what I remember this isn't just the hopes of a bunch of shippers, hasn't it been stated by the creators of the show from the beginning that they will end up together and not just at the end of the series?

What is a shipper?

Per Wiki:

Shipping, derived from the word relationship, is the belief that two fictional characters, typically from the same series, are in an intimate relationship, or have romantic feelings that could potentially lead to a relationship. It is considered a general term for fans' emotional involvement with the ongoing development of romance in a work of fiction. Though technically applicable to any such involvement, it refers chiefly to various related social dynamics observable on the Internet, and is seldom used outside of that context.

Shipping can involve virtually any kind of relationship — from the well-known and established, to the ambiguous or those undergoing development, and even to the highly improbable and the blatantly impossible. People involved in shipping (called shippers) variously assert that the relationship does exist, will exist, or simply that they would like it to exist.

Why quote Wikipedia, when you can quote the authority on such things?
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Shipping

Quote:
The term "Shipping"- which ostensibly derives from "Relationship" (though it might as well be "Worship")- was originally coined by fans of The X-Files, who were divided between "relationshippers" pushing for romance and "noromos" who would rather have No Hugging and No Kissing. The phenomenon itself, however, was ubiquitous in practically every fandom long before. The source of the term's popularity is shrouded in myth, but Geek Mythology has it that you can blame people in the Pokémon anime's fandom who root for Jessie and James (of Team Rocket) to get together and decided to call themselves "Rocketshippers". This got the term to catch on in that fandom, then people brought it with them to other fandoms and this is why as of today The Other Wiki needs a tiny disambiguation note at the top of its article on maritime delivery of goods. Much to its chagrin.
