CoH Background/loader Art

Underwhelming it is, but that's the fallout from the "Something About Praetoria" craze. Personally, I'd like to see the Statesman squaring off against Tyrant with Recluse standing in the background facing the audience. Optionally, States and Tyrant could have their friends/lieutenants backing them up and running into battle while Recluse could have his lieutenants standing around with him.

Giving Statesman a better face under his quarter helmet would help, too.

I hate that picture.

Sorry Art team, but it's really not the finest piece of work you've ever come up with. I *loved* the GR Loader page. Id had dynamic, epic poses, it had the grandiose and still threatening look from Tyrant looming in the background...it worked. It worked MORE than great.

And it worked a hell of a lot more than the current one;
-Statesman's body looks twisted
-His face looks bad
-Why is he punching left handed?
-Why is the WARWORKS punching? At all? Those things are RANGED robots!

I can deal with Praetoria craze (Did I mention how much I loved the GR splash screen?)
I CAN'T deal with lack of epic.

And I still can't change it back to what I wanted it as

And that's subliminally the intended appeal in a nutshell. Recluse and Tyrant look just too eccentric and too fantastical to shout "comic book" to the wider audience, so Statesman has to face off against a nameless death's-head-cyber-robot sci-fi baddie with a BFG for an arm, 'cos that's what the kids today go crazy for in comic books.

This choice of imagery is all the more disappointing compared with the dynamic new character studies of the signature heroes in the archetypes screen for the Freedom character creation section. The ones for BABs and Ghost Widow were particularly good.

I think it's quite good for showing good vs evil theme of the game, especially as the war with Praetoria has gone passed the Rikti storyline to become the major plotline in the game - but I still think Arachnos should get a look in somewhere - Recluse has a pretty wacky comicbook villain design

EDIT: I also made a female version of the artwork when it was first previewed on the fourms back in June:

I have no problem with it being Praetorian natured...but against a minion?

they could at least have done Nightstar

Given that Statesboy is too much of a wussy to even face off against the Praetorian army personally, I don't see how it makes sense for him to be facing any of them.

At the very least he should be facing multiple Warworks, though. We're not fighting Tyrant yet so let's leave him out of the promotional art for now (sure, he figures prominently into GR, but that's really a sidebranch of the main game).

I wouldn't call him wussy, he IS hard to bring down

however, he is an idiot

Maybe there is a vastly long line of bots behind that one, keeping just enough distance to conserve their robotic ninjutsu.

"Wussy" doesn't mean you're weak, it means you're a coward. Statespunk isn't man enough to even face Tyrant's lieutenants, never mind the Praetorian Hamidon ("meh, Desdemona's got it"). Hell, a single ACU is probably the only thing he's actually willing to dirty his precious hands with.

I choose to deliberately ignore that link and refuse to further acknowledge its existence.

somewhat...underwhelming, actually
That body frame is used in everything from minions to bosses in Praetoria... All really depends on which content.

BCU are minion, ACU are lieutenant, and 9CU are boss.

I have no idea what you people are complaining about. Nothing says, "You're about to enter into an epic gaming experience," more than a picture of the main hero rushing to take down a lowly minion with no personality while there's a look of utter constipation on the hero's face.

He *did* beat the hell out of the enhancement system (ED) and changed an entire powerset. We used to have /regen, now we have /self empathy.

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

He appears to be as anatomically correct as a ken-doll. Maybe even less so than a ken-doll. (It was pointed out to me. I can't unsee the blank smoothness. Help me?)
