I had tried to like Galaxy City in the past and started several characters there. However, the thing that peeved me about it is that other than Paco Sanchez, all the other Contacts are very inconveniently placed at a distant corner of the zone. And what was most annoying is that they don't give missions in Galaxy, so they required a lot of running back and forth between them and the Train Station. They were the reason I've always taken Swift at level 6 regardless of the need-for-Stamina debate.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
I will miss Galaxy City to the extent that I miss any piece of content taken out of the game - I liked it, and it's gone. However, I won't miss the zone much - nowhere near as much as I miss the original Faultline, back when it used to be impressive, before they flooded the massive sheer cliffs. Faultline I will always miss because I liked the original Faultline. Galaxy City I will miss because it used to be there and it isn't any more.
I started my first character in Galaxy City, myself - I wanted BABs as a trainer. I learned the layout of Galaxy City long before I learned Atlas Park... In fact, I still don't know Atlas Park all that well. But, to be honest, City of Heroes just already has too many Atlas Parks. There's the original, Galaxy City is almost the same thing and Steel Canyon is pretty much almost the same thing, as well. They have different layouts, but they look like jumbles of the same zone and have the same feel.
I appreciate Galaxy City, but I feel no sentimentality towards it.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

Actually, the other day i had occasion to go to Galaxy with one of my characters and I found myself taking the scenic route through the zone. I looked at the pedestrians and various people coming and going and had this odd feeling that soon, very soon... they would all be dead. My hero wanted to warn them to escape, but of course, that's player knowledge that he wasn't actually privy to...
I left feeling kind of sad.

Nope. Not even a little.

I will be running a new alt or two through GC tonight, for old time's sake.

In a word, Yes.
Galaxy City was my first zone. First hellion taken down, Galaxy City. First time recovering the Jewel of Hera from the Circle of Thorns, Galaxy City. First Plaque clicked, Galaxy City. First Ralaruu Portal found and freaked out over, Galaxy City. Galaxy Girl became the first bit of City of Heroes lore I actually became interested in knowing about. It was in the cosmically themed streets of Galaxy City I first heard a call requesting the location of the tailor (which let me know that such a thing existed in game). First level 50 trained up by Back Alley Brawler, Galaxy City. Our SG's base was said to exist in a warehouse in Galaxy City (From Twinshot's mission I know it survived). Our SG also had a "right of passage" which required you to get the Tank badge without using any travel powers, not even sprint.
Yes. I will miss Galaxy City, in many ways it was my first taste of City of Heroes, and much of the affection I have for the game is shared by the zone. I know this is for the advancement of the game, but I feel it is somewhat heartless not to feel some sense of loss or tragedy at this passing. After all isn't that what the story writers were aiming for?
"She's like some kind of fast octopus, that you can't hit." (Stalker mortified that his AS kept missing.)
Not enough characters to list characters. Alt-aholic and proud of it.
Any character that I had that was not a villain or a Praetorian started in Galaxy. It was nice and quiet and especially in those first few months around launch I could run around and get the first few kinks out without worrying about excess chatter and the competition for free range mobs.
It will be missed. I am almost sad that I never rolled a warshade and leveled through the Galaxy contact...but I just can't get beyond the soul melding cthuloidness.

I actually have my first screenshots from my first character (yep, MB.) Swapped him back to his - well, not "usual," but the updated version of the original outfit, and revisited those two spots.
Just for laughs - and sorry for breaking the forum - two "Old" vs "New."
First screenie in COH:

Hmm... a few things changed (second screenie) :
Yeah, logging him out in galaxy tonight. Even if he gets auto-shunted to Atlas the next time.
(And for laughs - that old system was, IIRC, an Athlon XP 1700, 512 Mb RAM or so, and nVidia 5200 on a 15" monitor. New, core i7-860, 8 Gb RAM, AMD Radeon HD 5770.)
No. Nuke it from orbit.
Only way to be sure.

Nothing but love! We'll see many of you tonight for the Galaxy City sendoffs across the servers!

As long as the explore badges and history plaques needed for Freedom Phalanx Reserve are avaiable in the Ouroboros version, then not at all.
Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!
168760: A Death in the Gish. 3 missions, 1-14. Easy to solo.
Infinity Villains
Champion, Pinnacle, Virtue Heroes
My first level up outside of the tutorial was always at Back Alley Brawler. Yes, I'll miss it, however, this will be an opportunity to make the Shivans pay for destroying Galaxy City!

Started there over six and a half years ago. Will miss it greatly. The great friends I've met through the Galaxy Girl RP meets, the sedate, quiet way to start a character away from Atlas Park's bustle. So long, old friend.
