going solo
hmm.. If you put your self on Global hide on all functions none will ever see that you are online. And you basically isolated yourself. It really works
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!
Always remember, we were Heroes.
Don't you still get the Tell chime even if you don't have the channel added to any of your tabs? I could see that getting annoying. Global Hide would be the way to go here, that way the only people who could possibly send you a tell are people who actually see you out in the game world.
I still don't quite understand the situation though. One team, a group of people, got grumpy about your KB and now you won't team with anyone? I mean, pretty much as long as you control your KB and aren't constantly spreading mobs away from the melee-types (and to be fair, this can be really annoying), most people aren't going to care. And it's not really fair to paint all "expert-type" players as ones who will nitpick every single detail and harass you about how you play, the true experts know what really matters and what doesn't.
I'm not trying to tell you that you should team or that you're wrong about wanting to solo (I solo most of the time myself unless it's a TF or trial), I just thought I'd bring an additional perspective to the situation.

Yup, /hide would be your friend here.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Type /hide and select one/some of the options:
1. Hide and block all Invite Options
2. Hide from Tells
3. Hide from Global Chat Channels
4. Hide from Global Friends
5. Hide from Server Friends
6. Hide from Supergroup
Or type /hideall (which is like typing /hide and selecting every option, all in one command) and be completely hidden except for someone walking up to your character in the game world.

I did use my empath to team for the first time in almost a year a few days ago and had an enjoyable session, but the "experts" seem unwilling to leave me alone. They see in search that I don't team with "experts" or "power gamers" and think I need to team with anyone that demands it or that they are owed some explanation of my choices in teammates. That I should basically shut up and listen and take their wise advice. I suppose I'll open up for teaming again at some point, but I really don't want to be harassed right now. And if I don't want to be harassed, this would appear to be my best option.
Think of a good excuse to decline invites and put it on a bind, just send that each time,ie "soz logging soon RL inter-fears again . ,they cannot get humpy with that .

Perfectly reasonable desire in my opinion. We are not all socially inclined, nor should we have to be. One of the things that bugs me most about this game is being forced into teams or leagues to gain certain things. In comicbook tradition, many heroes are loners, why can't players be loners? But, unfortunately there is no means for the solo player to gain most of the incarnate powers nor a solo equivalent to task force rewards which I feel there really should be.
Not having Incarnate stuff hasn't stopped me from enjoying the game. As for the OP, he has my sympathy. It sounds like he has the rotten luck to attract idiots. He isn't the first person to have this problem. Our friend Psychoti from the Rude Tells thread is another lightning rod for obnoxious morons.

The hide function that people have mentioned above works like a charm. If you are one of those that are completely anti-social...then I say go for it. If you are social but have had some bad experiences with people, then you could always just get into a friendly SG of very cool people to play with no pressure.
I have relocated to different servers a couple of times and have always found good groups of people to run with.

If you have something confrontational in your search comment or bio, eg 'No I don't want to team with "experts" ', that might act as bait for tells from some people, even if its just to ask you what you mean.
Maybe change it to something simple like "No Teaming" to minimise tells.
That was simply the incident that broke the metaphoric camel's back. I also don't know how to tank, how to write a profile, or how to build a power set. According to "experts."

This. If you just team with random Broadcast folks then you're gonna run into a fair amount of jerks, global channels is where it's at.

In what server do you play? I think you've been with the wrong people.

Join a server with a GOOD community that actively use a Global Channel... only team with folks in there that you think will be more of your style. Or, better yet, start a Casual global channel yourself and specify that its for folks who wanna have fun, blast **** and not get told how to play.
Why do people keep misusing this word? "Anti-social" does not mean you don't like to socialize. it means something else entirely and it's not at all a positive thing.

I'm guessing this has to be Freedom as I've never experienced that level of vitriol and my main has been Eng/Eng Blaster for 6 1/2 years.
I know where you are coming from though. I stopped teaming on my main from level 32 -50 for a similiar reason. I was never berated over it but back then KB wasn't understood by the general populace. I'd be 'warned' by the leads not to use certain powers like Explosive Blast etc, before they even had a chance to watch me use it properly.
Once I saved a tanks life by knocking everything around him away right before they got the final blow, his health bar wasn't even red it was gone entirely. He survives thanks to my well placed blast and promptly kicks me.
Final straw for me on my main came when I was hunting Nem's in Crey's Folly. Got a blind invite, accepted and saw they were in Perez of all places. So I fly out of Crey's (this was long before Ouro) out of Bricks to steel. All the way to the other line (long before they merged) into Atlas and then finally into Perez. The moment I zone in I find that I'm no longer on the team. I recalled the leaders name and sent a /tell thinking it was an accident. I got a tell right back saying he wasn't going to spend the mission cleaning up after me!! Yeah...
Still, that didn't deter me from teaming in general, just with Energy, as I wouldn't even get the chance to show I'm responsible with it most times.
Also, I never bother explaining why I decline an invite unless I know the person. A simple "No thanks" has always worked fine for me. The few times someone would try to egg me on I just ignored it.
I'll add, if you have anything at all in you search comment other than the standard AT set or TF's and such then you are indeed 'Asking for it' as it will only serve to highlight you to the griefers out there, they pull up team search and scan for easy targets, targets with comments that give them ammo, then they harrass said target because they know how to get under your skin thanks to the clue you gave them. While putting 'Will not team with experts' would seem like a goodway to avoid the aggravation, in reality the exact opposite is true I'm afraid.

I want an option to play solo. Really what I want is a way to isolate myself from Tells.
About a year ago I was playing a blaster. Every power I had caused knockback. I got chewed out really badly for causing knockback by the team I was on. So badly, in fact, I stopped teaming. Of course some people just couldn't leave me alone and insisted on pestering me to join their team or tell them why I refused to team. It got so bad I finally cancelled my account and left CoH for several months. When I finally did return I still refused to team and eventually worked my blaster to 50 solo. Finally someone convinced me to simply refuse to team with "experts". It seems even that isn't good enough since now I'm getting Tells asking why I wouldn't want to team with someone who knows what they are doing.
What the problem boils down to is people who feel a need to share their "expertise" with me unsolicited. I want a way to Ignore All.
No slight intended toward the good segment of the populace, but I'm really tired of being berated, yelled at and told what I'm doing wrong constantly. I just want a little diversion for a few hours. I DO NOT take my play as desperately serious as some. ITS JUST A GAME.
