If I had to guess, the clipping that they're concerned with isn't the jetpack itself, but due to the way flying animations are posed, that the jet would burn the lower halves of our characters.

Look at the handful of jetpacks/zero-g pack that we can get currently to see how they've positioned the possible fire hazards.

So, why do the screen-shotted CoT NPCs (not shown here) not look anywhere near as good as the concept art? Something was definitely lost in translation there. The concepts obey the 3-point rule, they have flat spaces and subtle patterns that aren't shoved in your face...they look fitting of CoH (kudos to Davids team, once more)

They look great. The NPC models don't. Why is this?
that is the same thing that came to mind. These are great! what we got not so much.

I really really hope we get the long skirt, and the large gloves the Death Mage wears, and they just didn't show it. I can still use the other stuff, but I have a feeling that long skirt is what the majority of us wanted.

I like the back pack, but I doubt I will ever use it.

You know... those concept art pieces would fit something more along the lines of a group of Hamidon cultists in Praetoria, believing they can restart the world themselves (and dabbling in magic to do it... essentially selling their souls to... OH... WAIT...)

So yeah, these concept art pieces rock. Wish they were used in a more literal sense in new costume pieces.

ETA - I have two characters that can use that backpack. And look forward to more!

ETA2 - You know what I like more? That we can tell the two character's genders, without the need for gendered pieces of costume. That is to say, yes - it's figure-hugging, but it doesn't flash skin - and there's no need to either.

ETA3 - Does she really need a stiletto heel though?

While the concept art is nice, some of the features that yielded big complaints from folks are still evident - faces for minions (assuming these are minions) making them less mysterious and more identifiable as human, and a spandex rather than robe base. Tight fitting and cut at their core.

And the heel is funny, given some of the hubub in the comments regarding barbarian costumes.

Random Merit Rolls: Scale cost by Toon Level

Maybe that's why it wasn't used, she kept getting her heels stuck in all the cracked rock pathways down there, and the echoing "Tap, tap, tap, tap" of walking around was driving the ghosts nuts.

Good spot on the heel, I didn't notice. Yeah, that doesn't look so good. And the 'figure hugging' comment is true.

But it looks better than the overkill use of raised pattern on the last batch of screenshots.

Y'know, I'm still wondering why they don't include female Arachnos soldiers while they are at it. Not just because of VEATs; the original CoV art book had some AWESOME sketches for Arachnos soldiers...male AND female. Yet only the blokes ever made it in.

Here we go;

I'm not sure that bodes well if they're just now bothering to note that players want Kheldian sashes.

I could accept the possibility that they are worried about clipping issues like jet pack flames burning the lower halves of characters while flying. But that didn't stop them from letting the original static tails clip badly into people's legs while flying for years.

I'm not suggesting they don't do everything possible to fix the clips/gaps. But I also think that people would probably be willing to live with a certain amount of clipping as a compromise to actually getting to have these things in the first place. There's got to be a reasonable trade-off between having jet pack costume items that clip a little bit versus not having them at all.

Just to put things in perspective there's another "superhero MMO" out there which just released several good looking animated jet pack costume items. It'd be a shame if this game couldn't follow suit. *shrugs*

I've noticed this kind of thing happening in the recent ustream chats as well. Some of the Devs have made comments like, "Wow that's a great idea, I've never thought of that before" in reaction to things that have been suggested here in the forums for YEARS.

It's not like I expect the Devs to be monitoring these forums 24/7 but you'd think that most of the suggestions that've come up regularly for years would not be considered "brand new" to the Devs.

To be fair, Zwill is the most involved community rep we have ever had. There is no telling how much stuff never got passes on to a Dev. We seem to be hitting all new heights of Dev involvement in the game, which is a good thing.

And some of the guys and gals are relatively new. They may genuinely not KNOW about the miles long list of 'Do Want' from over the years.

So let's remind them

I was the one who suggested beach party idea. It's something that I and others have often wondered about getting especially on some years where there was a dry spell in the summer with no Issues released or scheduled events like a server test or event of some kind.

Yeah it might have been suggested before but getting it there in their concious thoughts is better. It might grow like a tumour (there was already an idea brainstormed about a surfing contest, now that we have a rocketboard isn't so absurd as well as the 'surfing' animation.

Alas the latter suggestion of tradable shards fell flat but maybe that will fester too. Mua.Ha.Ha.

Trust me when I say I'm willing to cut the Devs as much slack about this kind of thing as reasonably possible. Still I guess it just seems odd to me when I hear things that have been collectively assumed to be lingering on the Devs' "To Do" lists for years aren't even on those lists yet.

I know Infinity has held Beach Parties in Talos in the past... though I don't recall which SG sponsored them.

It isn't strange that he's the most involved community rep we have ever had, since he is after all the most community rep we have ever had.

I'm at work at the moment, so I can't look (and I'll say that I never noticed any issues with the temps), but assuming there is a problem with them, why is it okay to have temp powers that have this issue, but not costume parts? If there isn't a problem with them why can't the costume versions be done the same way?

That question has puzzled me for years now. Is there really that much difference between the graphics data involved in displaying a "temp power" that attaches to a character's back and a "costume item" that attaches to a character's back? Surely the same "body anchor points" would be involved in both situations.

They seem to have no problem with the idea of having temp power guns/swords in character's hands the same way they have costume item guns/swords. If different versions of guns/swords can be both temp powers and costume items why can't jet packs?

The idea that it's taken them years to make the "leap" from back-oriented temp powers to costume items is frankly almost mind-boggling.

That's concept art for the CoT costume set for players/original CoT make over before they updated it to the more respectable version that's on Beta now that looks amazing.

I think this is a disservice to CuppaJo. Remember: she was working under a different regime that seemed to go out of its way to ignore the fans. But she made the most of it and passed on as many of our ideas as possible. I know a few of the ideas I had are still here to this day.

And I'm not just saying this because her move to another game and the debut of Lighthouse led to my instant banning... Okay, partially...
