Johnny Cash + Cowboy Bebop

Hmm if I'm remembering correctly...the footage is from the Cowboy Bebop movie.

Still Cowboy Bebop has my two favorite episodes of any animated series in it. Namely Toys in the Attic and
Pierrot Le Fou.

Well great. Now I have to go watch the movie again.

I love Johnny Cash and I love Cowboy Bebop, but while the video's pretty impressive in a technical sense, it just didn't...do it for me.

It's too "matchy" no need to jar the scenes every. single. beat.

Cool concept, though.

Never heard of 'Cowboy Beebop', but a HUGE Johnny Cash fan. Now I'm going to need to go rent this movie.

Never seen an AMV using Johnny for music. Not bad, not great execution though. I don't like way scenes are cut to match the beat, it makes it hard to watch. Also, needs more Swordfish II.

I thought it was solid, a nice matching of song and image, but agree with some that it was edited too slavishly to the beat.

This is my favorite Anime AMV (LL Cool J with Samurai Champloo).

Love the editing on it.

Video and editing are ok... the song on the other hand is FANTASTIC! I love the man in black!

What is it you fans like about Cowboy Bebop?
I watched the entire series (not the movie though, had no idea one existed) and found the entire thing to be so boring...
Each episode was pretty much stand-alone with no overall plot until the very end of the series. The entire show was literally filled with "filler" episodes.

It has style. In spades.

Get the whole series first, it takes place before the film and introduces all the characters. It is one of the greatest animé of all time.

This.

Also, why does it need an over arching plot?

It obviously doesn't. If everyone needed a plot it would be universally disliked by more than just me . It is extremely popular however and that is why I watched it in the first place.
It is interesting though that in other Anime, filler episodes are generally despised and very poorly rated. Many dislike Naruto for an abundance of fillers.
That is why I wondered about Cowboy Bebop which is almost completely fillers but the style point, it really does answer it nicely lol.

I find that to be a strength. It's episodic. Each 25 minute long chewy sci-fi story/action/comedy nugget has unique characters and a fun story, with almost no cliffhangers that the mega serials rely on.

Most people hate filler because it happens in the middle of a longer arc.

Well the film takes place sometime during the series, not after it.

Basically it's SciFi film noir.

It has characters with pasts, most tragic. It has personal spaceships. It has quick interplanetary travel. It has several terraformed worlds. It has a cracked Moon and a damaged Earth.

It has a Jazz soundtrack.

It's very stylish.

The Bebop movie doesn't officially take place until late in the series (the trivia-master mind can accurately place it between episodes 22 and 23), however, as mentioned, it's a pretty episodic series, and the movie stands alone well, so you can check it out first, really, if it calls to you. I have several friends who approached the series that way.

Either way, though, I'd definitely check out the series as well. It's just...a whole lot of fun. As others have described, there's not much in the way of overarching plot, though there is distinct character development that marches through the series; enough that there are actually very few episodes that don't have anywhere they "need" to fit, chronologically speaking, and the characters are part of the big draw, as is the style. It does a little bit of everything: drama, comedy, kung-fu, horror, and it does most of them quite well.

It's not on Youtube, that I can find, but there's "The Worst AMV Ever", which also combines Johnny Cash and the Bebop movie (and in fact what I was expecting this to be a link to, originally). It's a short little 15 second joke video, but it's pretty dang funny, if you can find it.

To be fair it's hard to make a video using this song and not have it come out awesome.

It's been a long while since I've watched Bebop, but it's always been at the top of my list for anime. As the series goes on, it reveals the different layers to the characters, growing them and making them more interesting. It touches on a lot of subjects that I found interesting as well. There's so much variety from simple action episodes to very emotive ones such as revealing Faye's background.

I thought this was a great video. I still haven't seen all of Cowboy Bebop, only seen those available on the Best Sessions.

It had great characters, decent action, nice art and animation, great music, and interesting episodes. And it got to the point and ended pretty quickly.

Most of the time when people are complaining about filler, it's in an anime that goes on for hundreds of episodes and the often lengthy filler interrupts the ongoing story.

And the point of Cowboy Bebop is not the story arc; it's the character arcs.
